Daily reminder that W-space is a hard place to live.
Sorry if this counts as an too old bump, but I've recently resubbed into the game and man have I missed Eve. I subbed 3 months each on all my 4 accounts and got Multi-character training for free on all of them so I put all my non-training trade alts to train for PI. I'm mostly a PvP kind of guy, but my plan is to do incursions(which I've already started with WTM) and with that backup money support my slow approach to become a fuel baron in my small part of Eve. I already made fuel blocks before but now when I'm upscaling my PI from 1 character to 6 characters eventually I hope I can start pumping out much much more fuel blocks. The largest issue is how fucking slow it is to mine ice now without rorqual boosts. Living in nullsec not many wants to or are allowed to have their rorqual on grid.
What happens for the rest of ya'?
That glorious feeling of having no fucking clue what you're doing. (At least it's not as bad as with Guild Wars 2)
Logged in after some four years and found my good old Dipswat II (Coercer) unmolested and fitted with a hextet of Small Focused Pulse Laser Is somewhere arse end of nowhere.
After faffing about trying to molest some information from the UI I ended up out of the station and wandering to the nearest asteroid field, where I found and dealt with a trio of riffraff NPC raiders or something.
Pew pew motherfucker.
I flew around the other asteroid fields trying to find some more to top off the Take Out The Threat Opportunities thing for sweet sweet money, but ended up going back to the waking station with the partially filled cup. Oh well.
Back in the station, some more faffing about made me realise I'm rich! Nearly 6 million ISK. Wow. Money. And a shit ton of random crap I have no clue how any of it operates in the Item Hangar.
This reminded me that I probably left or had bought some crap that ended up being in another station that I'm pretty sure I never collected, I spent the next few minutes hunting for the Personal Assets screen.
A bunch of junk where I am, a Small Remote Capacitor Transmitter I somewhere over the rainbow, 14 Condensed Alloy left from chucksville, and... What is this? Second star to the right has... 8 ships and 10 units of drugs? What the fuck? A Punisher, an Impairor, a Magnate, two Sigils, and three Tormentors?
Clearly I had been planning an Honest Jack's Slightly Used Ship Dealership with a side order of Drug Trafficking for Kids or something.
At this point a bit overwhelmed, I looked at the Russian spoken in the chat and sighed, finally acknowledging the fact that I'm hungry as hell and went to make brunch.
If I may, how does one EVE Online?
Is there a modern tutorial or something that might be used for a quick pick-me-up?

The greatly summarized guide to EVE is: aquire isk, train skills, make friends, and pursue your own goals.
Some of the best learning to be had may be obtained by flying with people who you share common interests with. Find a group to join and go nuts.
There is a flowchart earlier in the thread that describes "careers" in detail. I'll see if I can find it.

Was a part of some pretty serious shit today boys. First super cap brawl I've been a part of.
So basically what happened is that a blue Rorqual got tackled (happens way too often, what else is new) and the Russians dropped 2 Chimeras on it. Pretty obvious bait but we sent over a fleet of Hurricanes anyways for good measure. We killed one of the carriers and as the other started getting primaried Red Alliance jumped in a ~50 man Typhoon fleet to counter. Still seemed like bait though because we knew that wouldn't break the Rorqual.
Our FC, who's a brilliant FC by the way but not a Capital FC, calls in for Carriers and FAX. This was a mistake and poor scouting and Intel on our part led to it. As soon as our caps show up on grid Red Alliance jumps in a FUCK TON of dreads and our caps start eating shit. Our FC, probably panicking, makes the call to escalate to Supers and probably the biggest mistake of the whole thing was having them cyno in AT ZERO on top of the fucking dreads. Our FAX numbers were shit top so 3 of our supers died very fast. Meanwhile Stanwagon is jumping in every fucking dread they have on hand. After blaming all their doctors and booshing off all their bubbles we managed to get out our supers.
At this point it turned into a dread shooting gallery, our friends in Circle of Two and Triumvirate showed up to help. Russian dreads were popping fast. We killed 50 to 60 of them thanks to our tackle always being on top of them. Had they gotten out this would have been a complete embarrassment but all the dread kills on top of us being able to loot the field made it actually a pretty even fight.
In hindsight a lot of shit that happened should not have happened but it was still fun as hell, and I was shaking like crazy by the time it was done. My kill board is green too so that's always nice. The FC owned up to his mistakes too and said he would replace everything that was lost that loot didn't cover. Good fight Ruskies!
Here's the full battle report. http://evf-eve.com/services/brcat/?s=3138&b=7441497&e=330&t=avvfu&ro=29.466666666666665

To put this in better context, that's about $8,250 worth of virtual spaceships that just went up in flames.
Burn Jita is happening again, have fun looting stuff if you dare.

Man the worm is cancer
Oi, I need some super caps built. Contact meh brah.
So this just happened...
So my corp Brand Newbros took out a 10 man cruiser gang to Period Basis because Red Alliance is best content, most of the kills on that BR were guys we picked off earlier excluding the Tengu who had a tank we couldn't break. So they decided to rage drop a carrier and camp a gate we were on the other side of. Little did we know there was a TEST newbie frigate roam two jumps out so our guys start screaming in Local to get their attention and our dictor pilot hero bubbles the chimera and it then experienced death by a 1000 papercuts. Oh yeah and the Tengu died afterwards so that was nice. Dumb luck is the best kind of luck.
Best roam ever.

So finally refitted one of my Naglfars back to the shield doctrine... Holy Pheck.
[sp]Overheated guns and 2x Invuls ofc[/sp]
If this thing were to get on grid boosts..... :wow:

So CO2 just ate a whole lot of shit. 5 Titans down and a fuck ton of supers, 1 trillion+ isk in assets destroyed.
"Circle of Two lost supers today, and according to them it was due to a bungled escalation on a rorqual tackle event. Supers jumped in to attempt to save the rorq and ended up jumping to a dread bomb at zero."
This is why you don't fucking drop supers on subcap roams just for the lols.
People just getting over confident without having spies, saw that coming from a million miles away.
Then again you can buy built aeons for less than 16 bil now.

When it comes to supercaps, most worthwhile fits far exceed the cost of the hull.

Getting 155bil destroyed for a 10bil fortizar.
Find some guy baiting on a gate in null, run out to 50km and fire a missile at him to redbox, dudes buddies immediately jump in despite me being way far away from the gate and aligned out.
Turns out its a cynabl so go to warp out, no menu.
Right click again, no menu.
Slam micro on and continue to spam right click over the next 10 seconds as he powers towards me, no menu.
get caught and die, right click to warp pod, menu.

Set up an overview tab with moons, belts, and other out of the way celestial bodies to quickly bail out when necessary. Name it something like GTFO, and practice using it for some time to be able to use it as quickly as you can.
It will save your ship 75% of the time, and will save your pod 98% of the time.

Is anyone else in this thread an alpha clone? I recently unsubbed due to lack of money and damn, I miss my toys.
just finished my first month of SP farming on 2 alts.
skill farming confirmed for OP.

If you want easy cash set up a second alpha clone and just deplex faction warfare stuff with him while you do whatever on your main (since you can run 2 alphas at once). I did that while teaching first years at uni and netted me enough LP to buy like 40 navy comets.

Just out of curiosity, what % would Platinum insurance cover on those losses? Cause it says you lost ~400 million and the payout you're offered is only ~10 million. What's the point in insurance if it barely recoups your losses?
I also really want to get back into EVE, but I'm sick and tired of being hired by Corporations just to carry out boring jobs like ratting, where it makes them more money than it makes me. I wanna start doing all this exciting shit you guys do, but it's super hard to break into the game because there's just so much to take in.

As far as I knew and used it, insurance is really only good for recovering ship cost when going on roams for tech 1 ships.

I can recommend you to my corp if you want man, corp is 100% about blowing shit up, ton of new players joined us so you wouldn't be alone about not knowing errything and tax rate is low cause we don't pay for jack shit living in CVA space.
I'd recommend providence anyway if you want to get into the nullsec game without all the alliance level shit, Im really enjoying myself alot more now that im not expected to go shoot stationary objects for 4 hours every second weekend.

What kinda stuff do you do? Nightly roams? And does the fact you're based in Australia mean I'll be on at times when everyone is offline?
nah we have a heap of lads from the US (who are up at all hours) and some from EU/UK, generally roams happen whenever the hell people feel like it since we don't really have any rules that control who is allowed to FC them (though thats changing). Most of the time they are organised prior but you can generally go blowing shit up whenever you want as long as theres people.
PM your IGN and ill chuck it to one of our diplo's, even if you don't join us theres plenty of other corps in provi recruiting, hell you can come live here by yourself if you really want to cause CVA don't give a fuck as long as you don't shoot up the place.
Managed to get into LazerHawks and im poor all the time now.
