Can you join a game with a friend in tow yet? Or is it just a random instance every time still?
if you're in a party with friends, joining an instance will reserve a slot for all members of your party for a few minutes. They can see the specific instance you joined, and join explicitly on that one knowing they'll get into it
Neat.
Does FP have a group so people can play together?

There's a Discord with an invite link in the OP and FPCORP, the organization. (They're both pretty much the same thing right now.)
For getting people together to play, the Discord's your best bet, but it sees periods of high and low activity. Basically, shout about getting a group together to play and see if you get traction. If not, try again later.
Alternatively you could always just make a post here saying you play at x time so even people that don't read the Discord chat all the time can see it and join in.

This week's lore post is about the blackmailing of a Tevarin who's been embezzling materials intended for the SynthWorld project and diverting them to the Tevarin colonization effort in Branaugh system. He folds to the blackmailer because of the immense political damage it would do to newly-elected Senator Suj Kossi, who is unaware and uninvolved in the scheme.
Last week's AtV cut the Rhetor system Loremaker's short, but the whole thing's been posted:

I know the answer probably has something to do with kit-bashing, but what's with Drake's bed frames? They look like they were made to hold up a Ben Lesnick.

something something rugged
it looks like they fixed that fuck-awful command module though:
one thing i'm hoping they'll fix is how weird the game feels most of the time (fps part more than ship-piloting part)
i don't know if it's the motion blur, the headbob, or both, but the game feels and looks pretty bad when you're not sitting on a ship's cockpit. i hope it's not a part of croberts' ~vision~ because it sucks
The jank is because it uses the same sort of system as ARMA where first and third person animations are the same and there's inertia in movement, so it ends up controlling like ass. Supposedly it's gotten better/will get better, but it'll probably always feel clumsy.
I'm tentatively hopeful about based robert's claim in 10ftc that it's going to get way better soon. he may know nothing about deadlines when he teases shit it usually lives up to the hype
The motion blur is also terrible you should just disable it.

this is so much better, I hope it's at LEAST a modular replacement. It looks just like the kind of aesthetic I love out of proper industrial spaceships, compared to the vaultek bulldog looking bugger we saw last. From the looks of it he's just whiteboxing concepts and photoshopping textures/greeble in, but it's still vastly improved and feels like something I'd expect on a ship like the cat. As for when this image was captured, other clips from the segment show they were captured 6/28, so it's almost verifiably new stuff (and potentially a reaction to the collective 'what the fuck' to the last command module art we got)
If you look at the right screen there's a different model again, with the bulldog-like chamfered box shape around the front end. still too boxy and seems to be a half-step to this render, as he built off the vaultek-like model
for reference:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/0XQbqsZ.jpg[/t]
comparing to the size and position of those triangular double-brackets on top of the main body, the new thing is definitely a shorter module. I wonder if that indicates it COULD be a variant alternative, meant to be paired with a habitation/barracks body module or something to make up for the lost space (honestly the built in habitation could be enough as-is for a base crew), and focused more on specific functions like S&R with a sensor suite and better view, or a command center focused more on communications
also worth note, the canopy of this image doesn't suit the drake design documents, which makes a huge point about how ship canopy glass is always flat with clean-cut edges so pretty much anyone can manufacture and replace the parts in the event it gets damaged. The vaultek canopy is all sorts of janky with the front portion bubbling out at the edges, and the side panels having a big crease along the length of the bridge
the new design also reminds me of the 'space mode' flea-like shape of one of the dragonfly concepts, loved the shape but the overall design of that concept was really funky and didn't say 'speed' so much as 'this thing should be walking on land and can probably jump real high'

It's stylistically designed to be that way and they can't undo that, but they can diminish the effects of it.
The $60 mustang Alpha package gives access to the current build right?
I just don't want my friend to go off and buy the wrong thing on my recommendation.
The $60 mustang Alpha package gives access to the current build right?

Full answer: If you buy only the new SQ42-only package, all you get access to is your hangar and SP Arena Commander.
If you buy any new PU-including package, you get access to everything available now but your package may not include SQ42. The $60 Mustang Alpha pack includes it and the $45 pack doesn't.
And, of course, a pre-split package gives access to everything playable.
stuff
yeah it's still just a concept paintover, but at least it shows they know the command module needs work
it could be a skin over for a variant, like the constellation aquilla, but that wouldn't really fit the modular nature. on the other hand I feel like an optional command module upgrade/swap is a bit irrelevant or over the top
it does look a little too uh, 'good' for drake stuff, but apparently the cat is supposed to be the new benchmark for drake style, so it would be a good time to make it look a little sharper. despite the overall shape being kind of fancy the actual glass panels are no more complex than those on the cutlass

the shape is still an industrial futuristic space feel (reminds me a lot of ships from Halo). I just want SOME aesthetic above "1950's retrotech shipping crate"
and due to the modular nature of the ship, and the fact it's meant to fulfil so many different roles, I can see the need for various variant command modules, be it the need for livingspace, visibility (command/sensor style I guess), or even the CM engines. Make it cheapo liferaft or docking transport with nothing but maneuvering thrusters
So I just tried this out for the first time in a year, and is there a known roadmap for this linked or what? Just judging by what I seen in the "universe" mode, it seems like they are working on 1000 features at once.

CIG used to publish detailed roadmaps, but due to ordinary development delays and advancements, the schedule would change, or certain things would/do take a bit longer than expected -- after all, when you're doing things nobody's ever built before, it's difficult up to near-impossible to predict how long it'll take. When these schedule changes would occur, and a "promised" deadline (really, a suggestion as to when they expect feature X to be ready) went by without the feature being released, a segment of the backer community would lose their shit and rip the devs' heads off in the forums.
CIG didn't understand how some backers took their suggested deadlines as stone-carved promises. As a result they've had to develop alternate methods of setting and managing community expectations.
A a consequence of all of this, specific projections (X will be ready by Y) are not given except in the case of targets they know they will be able to hit, which means usually days before since they've gotten their heads ripped off even for missing a patch release date by a few days in order to give it a bit of badly-needed extra QA, or the date is out of their control e.g. an event with a confirmed and paid venue booking.
They are working on multiple features at once, and that's because the four studios are tackling different aspects of the project in order to better parallelize progress. Some of the things they're working on, they're quite open about, other things like SQ42 are kept almost completely in the dark for spoiler reasons. We hear lots about SQ42, but it's little bits here and there without the bigger context.
While there's no firm timeline published, they do give us a ton of info, it's just not immediately as revealing as some would like and it won't yield big things like the "exact" schedule for the next six months.
They do have a schedule; in the latest AtV, during the CIG LA tour, Chris asked the camera guy not to focus on it too long because he didn't want to leak things, but he had him swing the camera over to look at a large wall-mounted board with tons of stuff on it, saying "this is our internal schedule, we really do have one".
I've noticed higher framerates in 2.4.1 than 2.4, interestingly enough. Had a good set of runs today. Found out that while the Vanguard's lasers are pretty well unusable, the Gatling worked well enough in this patch, so made do with that.
Scratch that, gatling's still completely broken. I just got lucky, is all.
Scratch that, gatling's still completely broken. I just got lucky, is all.
That is really weird, when I put the Gatling on my hornet with the flash fire mount, it works pretty well, though it's damage output feels a bit weak.
have you tested it with some more controlled play, IE freeflight or even just VS?
