Of course they do. If something goes flying out the front*, there's recoil.

*semi-exception: recoilless rifles, in which the explosive gases are vented straight out the back. The gun itself doesn't recoil (as much) but you would want to be behind it even less than a normal gun. Instead of the gun being propelled backwards, it's the gases
look what I got

actual atmospheric flight!!
Oh man the reliant is one sexy ship
So here's a catch-up of stuff that hasn't been posted to the thread.
First, the lore posts:
The civil war on Charon III has been raging for two years, and now that the UEE is at war with the Vanduul nobody's really paying attention to Charon anymore. Charon III needs haulers ready to evade both sides potentially treating them as hostile during atmospheric descent/escape.

TL;DR Reliant Kore, cargo and passenger variants of the Argo, GrimHex, more clothing options, and new automated landing tech.
Important Issues:
Do Not Spawn A Constellation and Retaliator. We are aware that GrimHEX has a few residual issues with gravity pockets, missing textures and a broken elevator. We are also aware of an issue with server-client desync taking place on both Crusader and Arena Commander.

Crusader Industries would like to alert all pilots to avoid the Yela asteroid field. Pirates have become increasingly aggressive, and may attempt to lure pilots off course with fake requests for assistance. Crusader Industries believes they are based out of the decommissioned Green Imperial mining asteroid station, however attempts to locate the station have been difficult of late. Please report any suspicious activity, and consider any unidentified craft leaving the asteroid field extremely dangerous.
GrimHEX asteroid station would like to cordially invite the Crusader Industries to QT into the nearest star. We’re open for business to everyone this goram economy left in the dust from here to Terra. You’re very welcome to visit and enjoy our fine goods, services and lodgings without the prying eyes of Big Crusader peeking under every door. Our bar, bounty office and race track are temporarily closed while we make some repairs from the last group of over-eager “heroes” that came through. GrimHEX can be located by navigating through the Yela asteroid field.
The LiveWire Weapons franchise in Port Olisar is currently suffering a shortage of energy weapons due to several recent attacks on cargo transports. While they apologize for the inconvenience, only ballistic weapons can be purchased at this location for the time being. Outlaw armor sets are available on GrimHEX exclusively, and can no longer be purchased at Garrity Defense.

New Landing System
The first phase of our new landing system has been implemented into the game. This is the first part of a much larger series of changes we will be working on over the next few releases to provide a simpler, more intuitive landing experience. The landing pad targeting has been temporarily removed while other moving parts are being developed and integrated. Instead of selecting a pad and requesting permission, players in automatic landing will proceed to the nearest available landing pad. When they are within 20m, and speed is under 35m/s, the landing gear will automatically extend while the thrusters dampen your speed. When a ship approaches within 5m of a landing pad, in either automatic or manual landing mode, the local Landing Control System will take control of the ship and ease it into a smooth landing. Landing gears can now also be manually deployed by tapping the “N” key on the keyboard. Holding “N” will now activate automatic landing should you be within range of an acceptable landing pad and have the proper gears deployed. Please note, this system will change over time as further improvements and features are brought online.

Item System 2.0
We have begun converting player and ship items to our new item system. As with the prior, similar updates to ship components, this is largely at the back-end level. Implementing new component class systems, naming conventions and other needed functionality, as well as retrofitting all existing armors and weapons to be compatible. These changes will allow us to implement greater modularity to first-person items. Additionally, this will allow items to interact with one another in a more direct and less “handwavium” simulation, setting the foundation for greater player interaction and future game play mechanics. This should not affect the function of any in-game items, and changes to player item stats should be minimal.

Player Health System 2.0
We have implemented the first phase of our new player health system! This includes the implementation of better individual limb damage and health, more granular damage states, and many back end improvements to support a better FPS combat experience and future features like permanent health. Player health dolls should now show Normal (Green) health when between 100%-60%, a Hurt (Yellow) state from 59%-40% health, a Damaged (Red) state from 39%-10%, and the Ruined (Dark Red) state at 9%-0%. With this, we have also implemented some early versions of injury penalties. This includes a speed reduction for wounded legs, as well as a limping animation. Overall health damage (particularly head wounds) can also cause blurred vision around the edge of the screen, which will increase in intensity as more damage is taken.
Healing your Spaceman moves one step closer to full implementation.
Wanted Level System Update
Players with outlaw wanted level who enter Crusader will spawn in GrimHEX. This also applies to outlaw players who die and respawn in Crusader. Players with outlaw wanted levels will no longer have Port Olisar as a QT option, and instead will see GrimHEX.

Ships
The Reliant KORE, Argo MPUV (Cargo Variant), and Argo MPUV (Passenger Variant) are all now flight ready! Reliant KORE is available in both Arena Commander and Crusader. The Argo MPUV is only available in Crusader at this time, as it does not have weapons to defend itself in the Arena Commander simulation. A new size 5 laser cannon, the M7A, has been introduced!

Hazy thoughts even after Skelton's out!
Fixed an issue where changes to the Graphics Quality in the options menu did not actually change the quality of graphics.

Moderator note: this has been receiving a lot of reports for being a violation of an NDA. It is pretty clearly news about Star Citizen and does not violate our rules, so it will stay up.
"Gorram"? That's straight from firefly. Don't do that, CIG, the show only did it 'cause networks have a hangup about people swearing on TV.

Pretty sure they did it as a cheeky reference, as seen by the outlaw clothing CIG has no problem with swearing.
So much for 2.5 hitting PTU last week, huh? Any word on that lately?
So much for 2.5 hitting PTU last week, huh? Any word on that lately?
It did hit PTU last week.
For Evocati.
If they expand PTU to non-Evocati it'd be near the end of this week at the earliest.
CIG never said anything different. Remember, Evocati is just the first wave of PTU testers, but they're given builds sooner than would normally go to PTU (because they're fucking broken still and Evocati's job is to help QA identify things to unfuck) and are under NDA sometimes.
Ah, I hadn't heard it was out for Evocati. I really hope they can get 2.7 out before the end of the year. Maybe even 2.8, whatever that'll be.

The patch notes I posted above were for the 2.5 Evocati PTU and a sign that it had begun - I only put "supposed" because, while it was a reliable user on Reddit posting them, since Evocati's typically under NDA when they're the only ones who can access a patch you can never be sure that someone is faithfully leaking the real patch notes until CIG either confirms they're real, or just posts the PTU patch notes for all to see when the game reaches stable wider PTU. It's less that the whole thing is a hoax and more that someone could've edited something or added bogus info.

You're pushing on a big hunk of metal with a magnetic field, and the hunk of metal does not want to move so it pushes back on the magnetic field. so there's recoil :v:
do we have a reliant yet? I honestly haven't been following this game since I bought that upgrade.

It's coming in the very next patch, which is currently in closed PTU testing.

The Reliant Kore is hangar-ready, and in the patch that has just been put onto PTU for the closed first-wave testers (long story) the Reliant is flight-ready.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/kXhnY77.jpg[/t]
We also have:
- Server-side persistence (for certain things)
- Configuring your hangar is now done within your hangar instead of on the website -- look for little blue dots on the hangar floor that you can interact with; the ship won't spawn until you're out of the way after placing it
- Shopping and currency (but your live UEC is not active yet - there's a temporary version of UEC instead that CIG can wipe frequently), including buying handheld weapons and space suits and civilian clothing
- Wanted levels actually mean something now
Read back over a couple pages to see what's coming in 2.5, especially GrimHex.
We're also very likely going to get a new demo of the procedural planet tech at Gamescom in two weeks. Procgen is also intended to come in patch 2.7 (no ETA as always, goal is before end of 2016 at least) in the form of the Nyx/Levski landing zone being transplanted into the Crusader map the same way it was in the Pupil to Planet demo.
I bought the shitty ship back in the day (aurora?) and the game was confusing and stupid because it was basically a model viewer
has the game gotten any better since?
Thinking about getting a squadron 42 pack, hornet or aurora for PvP?
Also does 2.5 include Squadron 42, and how long till I would be able to play 2.5?
oh is the shooter pvp mode out already?

Squadron 42 won't be out for awhile.
Currently the LIVE servers are at 2.4. The PTU servers are at 2.5.
In a week or so everyone should have access to 2.5.
When 2.6 is out, the FPS should be ready.
Currently in 2.4, you can fight other people on the security station.

Oh cool, how often do patches go up 2.4 > 2.5 > 2.6? every couple months? Guess I'll look at some ships if squadron 42 won't be out for awhile then!
Thanks for that info
Anyone looking forward to GamesCom? Can't wait for more info!

I always thought that the there'd simply be some sort of counter-induction... basically that the recoil would be "electrical" as opposed to "physical".
But now that I think of it... I guess you're right. :V

I'm assuming that means all you had at that time was the Hangar, in which case yes, a lot has been added since then. Basically the core of the game is there now, so that includes Multiplayer, flyable ships, Space travel + Combat, FPS gameplay, shopping, a reputation system, missions etc all being available in some form, although it's still just the start of those things so there isn't a huge amount yet.

yeah I'm tickled pink with anticipation
how's sweden been treating you bigs, don't think I've caught you posting about it
Thinking about getting a squadron 42 pack, hornet or aurora for PvP?
On this topic, the Aurora isn't a great ship for combat unless your name is Korro Bravin and you have no fear of (relaxed) permadeath.
The Aurora is basically the spacefaring equivalent of a VW Westphalia van with guns strapped to it. A Hornet on the other hand is a space superiority fighter and dedicates itself to combat at the expense of bring able to do most other things at all. So, if you want combat, especially against other players, picking an Aurora wouldn't be the best choice.
However, a Hornet package is significantly more expensive than an Aurora, and there are ways to earn ships without pledging cash for them. The ship-earning is only temporary for now, but now that we have server-side persistence and the basics of the economy going, the systems are in place for permanent earning of ships -- the rest of the game is just way too alpha to turn on permanent progression yet.
In other words, you can buy an Aurora and work your way into a Hornet fairly fast (using the REC rental currency) without spending any more than the bare minimum on the game.
Warning: If you only buy the SQ42 package, you will not have access to any of the online features. The package access works like this:
- SQ42-only package: Offline-only Arena Commander features (racing/free-flight/1 PVE mode), SQ42 when released. NO access to the PU testbed added in 2.x
- "Standard" $45 starter pack: All available online features, no SQ42 when it's released
- All legacy packages from before the split: All-access
- There will eventually be an option on the website to buy the missing half of a split package (e.g. a PU pack adding SQ42), so if you're buying in now you should buy the non-SQ42 package and add SQ42 when it launches (if you want SQ42).
Oh cool, how often do patches go up 2.4 > 2.5 > 2.6? every couple months? Guess I'll look at some ships if squadron 42 won't be out for awhile then!

Patches usually come out every month or two. CIG had some real heat going early this year, as they were releasing a patch a month. Then they hit the huge server-side persistence update with 2.4, and that patch spent almost two months in QA and on the test server before going live.
They're almost back onto the monthly pace with 2.5, although it is still too unstable to be tested by the wider backer community yet, and 2.6 is in the works.
Patch 2.7 promises to be another big mf'er (unless they drop features from that patch) with the procedural generation planet tech being targeted for that release. So, the best CIG is committing to there is "we hope to get it out before the end of the year". I would like to think that it'd be out in at least testing before the beginning of December, but the next few patches are pretty significant so it wouldn't be surprising.
