So when does Gamescom start?
Gamescom starts August 17th for media, 18th for public access to the show floor.

Is it actually confirmed that Star Citizen is going to show anything?

They have a booth on the show floor and will be running it throughout the show, with an attempt at streaming as much as possible from it. CIG event streaming tradition being what it is, I'm already considering that beachhead lost but we'll see.
It's heavily implied that they will be showing off the procgen planet tech, as Brian Chambers apparently confirmed it in an off-camera conversation at Britizencon. Star Marine is supposed to come in 2.6 so I suspect they'll have an internal build of it there as well. As usual, CIG doesn't want to reveal its surprises but can't help blabbing at least a bit. They're also flying four community streamers out to stream from the booth.

Yo, umm...There are many of those "crazy backers" right here right now. Those are the ones I'm speaking to.
Im not seeing any of them. That video that got posted last page got a fairly positive reception, people just think you are dumb because you think a vacation photo is proof of gross mishandling of funds. Then freak out and attack whenever people ask for actual proof.
Your taking people's criticisms of your arguments and pretending they're saying "chris has never done anything wrong and is a perfect existance". You're an example of the most paranoid anti-fan, whenever i read your posts i forget im here and think im on a chan where every other post about every game is people rampantly shitposting with vague evidence about how this dev took a vacation once or made some dumb twitter comment so game is ded. Its so stupid because you could have taken a picture of me on that boarding line a few years back, am i now misappropriating my companies funds because i took a vacation to hawaii with my own money?

we've always had a joke about how shit suddenly stirs up two weeks before a major event, and Gamescom conveniently starts 14 days after people showed up to make tickle jokes last wednesday, how strange!
After gamescom is up and out, we'll see some claims of tech demos being 'fake', more news on the Roberts' personal life, and relative radio silence [sp]until september 25th[/sp]
[editline]e[/editline]
oh and on the 'how to post to reddit' thing, it's a broader problem than just the SC sub, and stems from the upvote system. You'll see a LOT of rising/hot/top posts anywhere that start with the phrase "I know this is going to get downvoted by the zealots/regulars/hardcore fans, but", or tag themselves with [unpopular opinion], it's so easy to manipulate expectations and reactions with a good opener and some caveats.
On FP the best way to make a concern post is to invalidate 'regulars', and it happens primarily when it's a separate news article and you're trying to lead the conversation before anyone knowledgeable on the topic shows up to say anything. "I already know every single word the thread regulars are going to say in reply"
Now you can just say "yeah I thought you'd say that" if someone tries to contradict the statements, and hey for good measure here's a few accounts who haven't posted on the forum in days or weeks, who've never shown up in the thread before, suddenly posting and rating to back up large walls of polarized text. Good thing they stepped up from casually lurking at such a convenient time

Hey! I don't post much here, but i regularly check new posts. I can't do anything to my urge to stick fingers into any sort of drama. (I love drama)
I'm still waiting for 2.5 to try SC again. Last time i had quite a bit of fun until game crashed.

Oh how much i hate the "Dumb" rating. There is no other tool that is so simple yet so infuriating when people use it as a replacement for "Disagree" rating.
Just fucking post what you think, stop talking with (just) ratings.
Is Star Citizien going to be a singleplayer friendly game? Can I play in an mmo-ish like mode with NPCs only and do whatever I want? (Kinda like in the X space games)
Also will the game feature NPC factions and territories?

Yes, Not sure, and yes
Is Star Citizien going to be a singleplayer friendly game? Can I play in an mmo-ish like mode with NPCs only and do whatever I want? (Kinda like in the X space games)
As far as the next several years are concerned, no. However, it's not so simple as that, so I'll explain:
The Persistent Universe (PU), aka "Star Citizen", is an online MMO-ish game. Like EVE, it has no offline equivalent. There are no plans for the PU to be playable in single-player or offline, quite the opposite of Elite's solo mode. It's possible, and it'd be really trivial to implement a "you only see NPCs" mode, but that's not really the point.
There is also Squadron 42, a singleplayer offline game, but it is a strongly-structured storyline-based game, basically a spiritual successor to Wing Commander (by the creator of WC). You won't get to just fly off and do what you want as if you were playing the PU, that's called going AWOL.
On the other hand, after SQ42 and the PU are launched out of beta, the devs will then be able to focus on delivering the mod tools and private server functionality promised in stretch goals. There's no point in trying to tackle these things that build off the main game before the main game is itself finished. Private servers are planned to work basically how Freelancer private servers work; you'll have a slimmed-down version of the PU built to run on one consumer-grade machine instead of a gigantic cluster of cloud servers on Google's infrastructure, and while you won't be getting the full PU experience missions and NPCs and such should still work (exact details TBA, obviously). Modding tools hook into the private servers so people can finally make the Star Wars total conversion they've been dreaming of or whatever.
So, eeeeeeeventually, yeah you'll sort of get an mmo-ish singleplayer if you run a server and don't let anyone else onto it, but it's both a long way off and the exact details are unclear since they haven't even started trying to make it work while building the actual game first.
Also will the game feature NPC factions and territories?
Yes, extensively. There are no plans right now for players to be able to control star systems, and the idea is that players represent 10% of the game population (the other 90% being simulated NPCs, primarily for the economic simulation). There are multiple alien races and a law-criminal conflict going on within the Human empire (being a pirate is a valid career choice), so there are sure to be factions. If you consider NPC corporations to be factions, there'll probably be influence ratings for them in some capacity, too.

nice name man
I think the problem with online only games is that they sorta screw over those who have unreliable, slow, or throttled internet connections. Unfortunately, this is a tiny share of the market and so the realities of commercial game development usually means this share of customers gets screwed over

If it's any consolation that share of customers would be screwed over anyway by the game's download size

Heh, yeah but at least that can be downloaded somewhere else where you don't normally use your computer or something.

Fucking ninja'd.
I'm shocked I still count as wave 1, I've been a total slacker about even participating in the PTU builds lately.
I wonder if the Reliant will have the Hornet's flight stats copy-pasted onto it like the Khartu-al did when it was first put on PTU. :v:
What are the changes in 2.5?
Reliant, Argo, items 2.0, GrimHex, wayyyyy more fluid FPS animations to name a few

11 shots since yesterday. Thanks, elixwhitetail...

They seem to have just copied the Evocati patch notes, and those were posted here several pages back.

I haven't even started up Star Citizen since whatever the second patch after Olisar was and they still send me PTU invites. Is there a way i could pass them off to somebody who would get more use of it?

Only if you like sharing your account credentials. However, CIG will cull you eventually, at least according to what they've said before.
okay wow this is legitimately a good patch and i really like all of these little QoL improvements like FPS anims not being jankier than arma 2, explosion fx not being obnoxiously loud JJ Abrams rejects, QT markers not cluttering up half your screen, and not having to fiddle around with the landing system to actually get your ship on a pad

wow reliant yaws like ass in vertical
almost like playing E:D :vs:

bonus ded argo
[t]http://i.imgur.com/5ntlGXV.jpg[/t]
What's the argo anyways? reliant looks great and I'd love to play it but muh fps even on low settings is intolerable. Might have to try that single-player mode hack with CheatEngine just so I can finally get my grubby hands on the Reliant.
The Argo is the Idris' shuttle. It's a multipurpose utility ship for larger ships. It looks like it's roughly two Auroras taped together side-by-side.
The Reliant's stats right now seem to be pretty clearly placeholderish. Korro reported that it basically handled, fought, and took damage worse than an Aurora.
It's pretty typical for ships to have completely wrong performance characteristics on PTU, so this isn't that much to worry about. The K-A's initial flight stats were a direct copypaste of the F7C's, so its handling was completely wrong for a bit. The Connie's handling was also ludicrously slippery and agile, and the Freelancer had infinite afterburner and physics-defying traction control. :v:
