Unpopular opinion, but I really, really don't mind that combat theme. Generic music is good for cruising around space and tackling trash enemies. I'd want something more dramatic when going up against Dread Pirate Roberts, but I could totally get into it like this. As Paindoc pointed out, making dynamic music is really hard anyway.
In today's episode of Threadly Drama: A Star Citizen Pastime, I invite everyone to discuss an interesting thing that people have found in the 2.5 PTU build. Don't worry, I know there's a lot of FP'ers currently in the hospital suffering from the post-operation effects of a liver transplant, so today's blurb won't have any drink-requiring phrases included. As it happens, people have noticed that a ton of the HUD elements we're used to seeing in our helmets have all but disappeared from a vast majority of flyable ships in the test server. As noted in this particular bug report, apparently this is an intended design change as seen here. It's curious because the multi-function displays (MFD's) haven't gotten any overhauls to supplant the missing info. There's a lot of theories floating around that I've read, and one that I think may be happening is CIG preparing to make more robust hud elements part of upgrades to existing flight suits or armor sets you've bought. Discussion's welcome, as well as feedback from anyone who has access to the 2.5 test server.

The starfarer and reliant both have fully functioning displays, however you can't interact with them as the pilot just yet (there were some control issues I think). However, some fighters are going to require a helmet/hud to fly properly, as they hook up to you flightsuit.

Good to hear they're at least softening the blow.
call me when they're actually readable at smaller than 4k
[t]http://i.imgur.com/d0UUqIe.jpg[/t] The Hornet's MFDs are mostly enabled, but you have to zoom in on them to read the fine details or interact with them properly and lit no one will have time for that in the middle of a 6-degree-of-freedom dogfight. The process continues.
its awesome when you can read them but they really need an option just to brute force the helmet hud into every ship. I remember a million years ago they spoke about having different hud modules you can swap out from various manufacturers so it will probably be a thing eventually anyway the cutlass MFDs are particularly awful, half the screens don't display properly and they're all so small

Honestly? I think the HUD-based elements were better on a ship like the Hornet. The information was all there at a glance and totally transparent so you could see through it if you needed to. Now there are huge screens in your field of view blocking your visibility.
ye that's a big nono for combat vessels imo, keep the data on the dashboard screens or have it projected with a transparent hud. I'm actually gonna go ahead and fiddle around with SC and see the changes for myself I'm thinking.
This change with the no Helmet HUDs is actually a massive Plus to me. I always hated the helmet HUD and would rather have something more physical on the dashes like in Elite Dangerous. .

apparently star citizen has a partnership with intel involving SSDs, they have SSDs that arn't on the market yet at cig
What time is the presentation?
Oooh a connie raffle.
So during that stream I was flying out to meet Disco and Baron at covalex and a connie attacks me. So instinctively, I defend myself, leading to a battle where I am ripping this connie end to end. SO DIsco and baron notice me fighting, and automatically name the connie the hero, and start attacking me too. Well everyone else on the server knows whats up and we all gang up on Disco resulting in hilarity.

You can tab through the screens with the HOTAS, and the generalized screen is good enough to get the job done and then there are specialized screens for further details. Switching to landing mode changes the HUD as well, moving elements around and adding new things to make VTOL flight easier. You can also split the screen into smaller subscreens, making it like four smaller panels. People bitch about the amount of coding that went into this being so obnoxious and evidence of poor choices, but I'm betting a lot of it went into this UI system since so much of the aircraft can be controlled from it. That, and just the flight control software. That plane gets too much hate :/
Oh, I'm surprised this hasn't been linked yet: A wild Free Fly appears! Mustang Gamma, Sabre, Freelancer. Shit's rad, yo. Also you can uncover the next "decoded" ship to be on sale by retweeting the pinned tweet for RSI on twitter. Fun stuff.
I'm pretty sure it's the Dragonfly based on the yellow in that second "encoded" image. Especially as it's already in-engine and being made flyable.
Help the Herald! Retweet this message to help decrypt your first look at the next Star Citizen ship design!
It says first look at the next ship design. I'm betting it's the 600i or Terrapin.
As much as I want to see what it is, I hope it's not the MISC racer, we've had enough MISC ships lately and it's time for another manufacturer to take a turn. I'm interested to see how they respin the Terrapin. It's not in the list of plans they had, so I expect to hear nothing for a while, but Consolidated Outland needs to make another ship, one in the almost-multicrew range (Hornet-Freelancer size range). These "Help the Herald" social media campaigns where they're pretty much blatant about holding content hostage for retweets annoy me, but it's not the worst thing they could be doing so it's not really worth complaining about. Don't forget that we still have not seen the Esperia Prowler, and that's because CIG didn't have the Tevarin locked down. Over the last few months the writers' public output has been heavily leaning towards Tevarin characters in the present (Suj Kossi's Senatorial victory and the examination of the UEE's uneasy relationship with the subjugated race living among them) and on historical incidents (the current Jump Point fiction series takes place at the very end of the Second Tevarin War before the peace treaty has been fully disseminated and both sides understand to cease hostilities). I think the Tevarin are close to being or are locked down, on the inside. And if not that kinda needs to happen fucking soon so the game doesn't go into beta with only placeholders for an entire alien species.

I found this video kinda cool, so I decided to post it in here as well.
That is some smooth flying right there. I'm just sitting here imagining some dogfighting around a Idris or vanduul captial ship with those moves.
The more I think about 6D flight, the more I wonder if there are any controllers made for it. I mean a stick/pedal/keyboard combo can do it, but is there something better?
dual sticks with twist and pedals :v:
