"Become a Star"
Even if it's bullshit, the idea of Chris becoming one of the biggest names in video games after starting his film career as a tickle porn producer is hilarious. It's actually kinda charming since he presents himself as (and most definitely is) a very respectable fellow.
but jesus chris that application form :v:
Hey Jackie Chan did porn and had a pretty successful career :v:
I bet a lot of people in Hollywood from cameramen to actors started in porn, probably more than what people realize.
Sandi allegedly did tickle fetish videos
:stop:
That shit belongs on SA, not in a thread about a space game. Please keep it there.
As much as I love gossip about my video games, maybe we should start being a bit more strict here about DS and his "business".
Like elix said, keep it to SA or private conversation. Last thing we need is to be toxic ourselves.
Worst case, if the free-fly ends, you can borrow my account as long as you promise not to touch anything except log into the launcher and play. :v:
It shouldn't be this awful but during a freefly weekend it's actually not too surprising that it is. Sucks, but CIG made a huge impression and I can see more people wanting to try it now more than any previous patch.
Thanks for the generous offer, I just sent a ticket to SC support, because i'm on my sixth download of the game and its still stalling at 1.9GB left, and hopefully they'll respond before monday because this game looks really interesting, but I'm not really sure about it enough to invest $45-90 in it or however much a good package for the game costs
As someone who has had poorly timed shifts and life to tend to, which of the hour-long videos on the YT channel would you recommend watching first (regarding the recent presentations/streams)?
I'd suggest watching either the full Gamescom thing or the 53-minute 3.0 demo (which is like 70% of the presentation and basically leaves out Chris' Powerpoint about what's coming in 2.6/3.0).

This actually looks pretty awesome!
I see what you're doing there
Man its amazing to see a new landing zone! Too bad it's an instanced off area on rails from an orbital position since nothing will be done to physicalize planets and let us explore at will for a while probably into release :(
2015 Levski would've been accessed via magical teleporting elevator or on-rails cutscene. 3.0 Levski is to be jammed into a placeholder 2000km-diameter procedurally-generated planetoid that you can fly freely down to from the Stanton system. This technology was developed over the past year at Foundry 42 Frankfurt, about two years ahead of schedule.
But that's an unimportant detail.
Coming soon!
The update is still pretty crappy in terms of bugs but once the work out the kinks it'll be awesome. Shaping up to be an amazing universe.
I ended up getting the Cutlass, having a lot of fun with it. I have defeated a few players in dogfights and also used the cannons to space some loser at GrimHex who was plinking at people on the pad with his assault rifle from behind a box. He was trying to squeeze as far back as he could but it wasn't enough to save him :v:

The cutlass also has the added bonus of causing the entire server to lose frames, meaning you can take even more time to blow someone up knowing that they too, are lagging like shit

Does it really? I didn't notice any performance issues when flying in a pair with another guy in a Cutlass yesterday
Its been mentioned at one point on one of the videos (nfi which one) that because the cutlass's model is so old it puts more strain on the server (or something like that) which causes in general, the server to just run worse. They definitely improved it over time but it used to be real bad, when I first got mine just spawning it in would cause me to lose about 4 frames a second.
Rework when
AFAIK the Cutlass is now onto the new procedural damage system and is no longer the lagcow upon significant damage or destruction. It used to bring the entire instance to a halt for 1-12 seconds while handling the brutally inefficient way they used to do damaged ships and debris fragments; the Cutlass was the largest ship at the time and basically was an active demonstration on why what they were doing was so bad it had to be changed before they tried to have ships like this take damage.

BTW the Idris in that image is 240m long. It fits in the gap beneath the Retribution's bridge.
Jesus fuck, I remember when we were playing ages ago, and whenever Dai respawned in his cutlass we all fucking froze for like 10 seconds

Dai is one letter away from DIO. Coincidence? You decide!
after a firefight I noticed my ship was acting a little funny so I eva'd to check the damage

I have a question regarding the ship upgrade thing.
I have a 350R which is worth $125, which means I can use the upgrade thing to swap it out for another ship that's worth $125 or higher. If I "upgrade" to another $125 ship (Hornet Ghost or Freelancer Dur), can I later swap back to my 350R? My initial assumption is yes, but the 350R was a limited release thing and I'm worried if I swap it out I won't be able to get it back since it's no longer available to buy.

There's a system called melting where you can melt a ship for store credit and buy it back later if you want
The site gives you 1 reclaim token every 3 months that allows you to use store credit on a un-melt. does not stack
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/buy-back-pledges
a example is that i bought a cat+dragonfly pack for money but once i realized i get a better deal another way i melted it and bought it that way. Now the combo pack sits in my "buy back pledges" section despite it being unavailable to buy.

Minor note though: If a ship goes up in price, you will not get extra money when you melt, only the amount you paid for it. If you un-melt it, you have to pay the new price. The entire 300 series (the one you bought) is gonna get a rework but i dont know if they are gonna raise the price due to it. they give a 2 week warning when they do
Yeah I knew about the melt system, that's what I used on my 300i to get the 350r. The pledge buy-back is only giving me the option to get the Digital Bounty Hunter with the 300i since that was my original pledge, so I'd lose the 350r it looks like.
yep if you upgraded a package you lose that upgrade
So did they ever announce another corvette class ship to replace the Idris once that thing got bloated out into a frigate? I feel like a corvette is the sort of ship I would aim for long term. Something that gives a hint of capital style combat, but without being unmanageable.
RSI Polaris
(and that's literally all we know about it right there)
:snip:
to any cool people checking the thread id like to state im only playing this game ironically

It's likely that there's going to be at least one more chance to get a 350R before launch, so you'd likely be able to get a 350R upgrade token then. But yes, you can only unmelt (buyback) the base package, not what it was upgraded to at the time of melt. You get the full value of what you spent back (base+upgrades) when melting, but it doesn't come back upgraded.
I've decided not to swap it out now. I thought it mustn't have been a good ship for dogfighting but it turns out I just didn't know not to fly at full throttle in a fight. Suddenly I'm not blacking out 90% of the time and can actually hit enemies without crashing into them.
