It's already a quantum leap ahead of what we currently got in terms of readability. The current HUD is a piece of shit when comes to actual usability.

I can understand wanting what's been released so far to actually be playable, but complaining and saying it's poorly developed because it's not perfect while at a very early alpha stage is just absurd, especially when there are reasons why those things haven't been fixed.
Treating it like it should be an actual playable game rather than an early test of certain specific incomplete features is just the entirely wrong thing to do. This isn't like Steam Early access where games are sold with the intention of being played normally despite being unfinished.
Why does everyone on /r/starcitizen talk like they're in a fucking cult.

At this amount of pledges, most people pledging to SC have never seen a game in development in before. They come in not knowing what to expect and some of them just default to "wow, this is buggy and unplayable, this must mean the game will always be buggy and unplayable!". This guy in the comments says he thinks that the buggy state of the game is negatively impacting the staff's morale... its just pure ignorance. If your staff making the game has issues with seeing bugs then they shouldnt be game developers.

reddit is such an echo chamber anything vaguely critical gets downvoted

hey guys I'm an original kickstarter backer and concierge with $25k down, I pray at my chris roberts effigy every morning and preach the good word to anyone who doesn't run from me (fuck derek smart right?). I'm the biggest superfan ever so PLEASE know that I only want what's good for the game and I swear I'm not trying to bring it down...
I think maybe the performance could be improved?

Holy shit that ATV is full of content
hnng
The crashed ships and stuff is 100% my thing. I can't wait for more of them to be shown off.
Cargo Info? Check.
Motorbikes AND planet surface? Check and check.
Perform drive-bys in Rovers? Check.
Derelict ships in space? Check.
Derelict ships on planets?! Check.
Pretty QA testers? Check!
I thought we'd probably see less content in the run up to CitizenCon but by the sounds of it CitCon is pretty much just going to be one massive Squadron42 reveal. I dont think I can take much more of this :v:
I've never seen the crashed ship on land before, was it shown off before?
The video is set to private sadly can't watch it (ATV 3.5)

This one works
ye, voice overlap at around 3:20 on the original one that they took it down to fix and reupload
Why does everyone on /r/starcitizen talk like they're in a fucking cult.
It passed that critical mass of number of users like a year ago and now it's mostly just talking about great everybody thinks the game will be and how well spent they think their money is.
As to the post itself, while there is some element of "it's alpha so it's going to suck" I still agree with him on principle. The game feels janky as fuck, and it's felt janky as fuck for over 2 years now in almost exactly the same ways it did before. I don't think the game will ever feel like a polished and smooth product simply because of the scope of the project.
It's the dumb little shit that makes the game feel bad like the God awful collision detection when walking around and especially in the tight corridors that make up almost every ship in the game. Or that horrible and jarring snap when going from the seat getting in animation to the game recognizing that you are now in the pilots seat and the ship starts up.
That's the stuff that's always been there, and I have serious doubts it'll ever get better because these things are so fundamental to how the game and its engine works.
My bar for the "game feel" of the final version of Star Citizen is set very, very low. I'm expecting something a little better than Operation Flashpoint. Not because I just want to be pessimistic and hope to be surprised, but because that's honestly how I think this game will feel.
reddit is such an echo chamber anything vaguely critical gets
Any website turns into an echo chamber eventually, it's just something that comes with a dedicated community. Even Facepunch acts like an echo chamber in many occasions.
But to answer the original guy's question, it's because /r/starcitizen IS a cult.

No true believer would doubt the words of our lord and savior, Chris(t) Roberts. Praise be.

I am so glad that others browse the subreddit so I never have to. Thanks, folks.
I'm betting that bug fixes and whatnot will come once they stop calling it an "early Alpha build," and people actually have some meat to play around with. From what I understand (as someone who is very interested in the game, but doesn't have it), there's not much to do besides some basic "go here shoot these" missions, and just kinda flying around.
I am so glad that others browse the subreddit so I never have to. Thanks, folks.
Hah, I don't actually read the reddit except when it shows up my front page. I don't drink the kool-aid.
I'm only really subscribbed to it because the descriptions for updates are short and sweet and to get notification when a rare complaint thread pops up so I can complain about [subject] without being downvoted into oblivion.
look at our seating animation, it works as expected! applause please
That literally happened with the Freelancer side door.
But yeah, I'm hoping that sometime down the line before "release" (if the game ever releases in a traditional sense) they'll lock Chris in a room and get him to stop talking about things he wants to do, put a freeze on new features, and then spend a couple months just polishing the game and fixing the mountains of little problems that have been piling up for years.
The problem is I don't really expect that to happen. I hope it does, but I'm not really expecting it. Doing so would require them to say, hey we're going to stop doing all the things that people throw panties and money at us for. And that's without getting into how it would require them to stop trying to do completely insane things that aren't done in video games for very good reasons. That's like CIG's fetish, and while I admire their ambition, it's going to eventually catch up to them. Hell, I would say the current netcode being wholly insufficient for the current scale of the game (which still is only a very tiny portion of what's planned) is a great example of it.
Anyways, back to my hole. I don't like posting in this thread anymore because all I do is talk about how it's probably going to suck but that I really hope they can accomplish what they set out to do beyond just a technical gee whiz ain't that neat level, and I don't like being that guy that just pops in here once in awhile to talk shit.

I enjoyed the living shit out of Operation Flashpoint back when it came out. Yes, it was clunky as hell to play, but what other game could offer you what it did? I can honestly say that the clunky gameplay isn't even something I vividly remember. I just know that it was there, that's all. So if SC manages to pull off all that it's set out to do in terms of features, I probably won't care too much if it's a little awkward to actually play. And I think most of the people who are into SC are not looking so much for "smooth gameplay" as they are looking for the "life of a space ranger/pirate simulator" that SC wants to be.
That's not to say I don't agree with the criticism regarding the jankyness of it all.

In my opinion lots of small issues can lead to big problems, a lot of niggles with the basic game mechanics could potentially really get in the way of the experience.
SC could have the most amazing persistent online MMO mechanics every but it would be all for naught if you can't carry out the simplest tasks without being hindered by a thousand little annoyances or glitches like collision detection, managing the HMDs or getting ejected out of turrets.
Just letting you sexy sausages know I'm the admin of the biggest Star Citizen Steam group out there. (So far my greatest life achievement) Thought maybe you guys might be interested in it.

We usually make announcements for the latest updates plus other worthy content now and then too. Also a guide there on how to properly run Star Citizen with a steam overlay.
so, what medium/large ships can hold the ARGO MPUV ?
(yes I know Idris, Javelin and the biggest Hulls)
I'm not sure if even Starfarer (100x45x24 meters) has such cargo bay/doors capable
for sure freelancer, kore, cutlass and freelancer are too small

I don't know I think it makes sense to have QA work on new features as they come and then gradually go from core issues to the more superficial ones once the groundwork is done. Seems to me like that's the common process in game development, janky gameplay in alpha stage is to be expected.
Wouldn't development slow down drastically if you focused on polishing everything you do before doing next thing. Especially since new stuff might(will) require previous stuff to be remade/changed.

I don't think they've told us what the lower bound is. I doubt you'll see Argos launched from the larger Hull ships unless they really make that cock-cage pocket carrier business a reality.
However, it is a utility craft for sub-capital ships so I don't expect it to fit into many smaller multicrew ships (yes, the Starfarer counts as a smaller multicrew compared to an Idris).
Alpha is for making it work; beta is for making it pretty and nice. If you mix these two up you waste a lot of time on premature optimization and polish. And premature optimization is a short trip to a lot of suffering.
maybe it don't need to be as big as the MPUV modelkit say it's 6m x 2.8m x 2.15m (so 7x3x3 narrow to 9x6x5 wide limit)
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/media/r8l5q7f86eyabr/source/ModelKit_4k_v01.jpg
so Starfarer in theory may work
similar ships may have chance when special changes are done to cargo bay access / spacing
so yes, this is definitely interesting question and if they make it also as 'NPC' ship
(passenger/cargo transfer for load/unload etc.)
I like the decision because immersion is key especially if it's enhancing gameplay (no cargo teleportation gives 'timely' window for example hijacking or attack etc.)

I can't speak to the rest of your post because that'd be something for a designer or a technical dev to confirm or discuss, but as far as things being NPC ships, I think you can count on every model of ship being piloted by NPCs somewhere in the game. Ships aren't just for players. There are also utility drones that may or may not be NPC-only, the devs haven't decided if players will need or be able to use these.
