These CitizonCon tickets are staged! Everyone is going to show up to an empty building! Chris Roberts is a fraud!

But don't forget they've got enough to spend on coffee machines, fancy chairs and new doors...so they're somehow meant to be running out of money AND still have enough to spend on things other than the game!

I wouldn't dare set foot in an office full of devs who doesn't have their coffee readily available
Reminder that Citizencon tickets were sold out within hours of going up for sale in March.
The sudden emergence of one or two tickets on the store is from people cancelling their tickets as, evidently, plans come up or something. There's nothing deceptive or shady about this, tickets to Citizencon were in hot demand and if someone can't go there would definitely be someone else who would be glad to take their seat at the venue so the event can be filled to capacity (since they've booked the whole room, not just the portion of seats they fill).
But who cares about logic right ;)

haha okay SHITIZEN, I bet Chris Roberts PAID you to say that!
[sp]/s[/sp]
I hope I can go to next year's CitizenCon.
I hope there's ANY sort of event in the northern midwest, gotta make use of that concierge black card! There's a lot of demand from the Chicago area and they've addressed it before

Even worse, they're going to show up to a slaughterhouse. All the progress on SC has been made by turning people into 40k style servitors to power the game. I've figured it all out you guys.

Maybe that's why the netcode is so bad.

I see a bunch of new posts, come back, and it's one long line of sarcastic shitposts.
Not that I didn't laugh, especially at Squeegy's most recent one, but seriously, fellas.
What exactly is the difference betwen Anvil and AEGIS in terms of gameplay?
What exactly is the difference betwen Anvil and AEGIS in terms of gameplay?
Well, there aren't enough ships out in either category to really tell you, because right now from what is flyable, Aegis has both fast zippy ships and slow tanky ships. Anvil has two relatively slow tanky ships flyable for now.
Aegis ships tend to look more aerodynamic, are black and red, 'cause black is cool, and have more of a militarized law enforcement feel, while Anvil has a no-nonsense grey metal, rugged military hardware feel. Though some could argue that Aegis has just as many military ships.
Greetings Citizens.
We have an idea. We think it's a fun idea, but it can only happen with your help. We need videos. Lots and lots of videos in a short amount of time.
We'd like as many of you that are interested in participating to upload a 30-45 second video of yourself giving the following information on camera.
1) Your In-Game Name.
2) Where You Are From.
3) What does Star Citizen mean to you?
4) What makes the Star Citizen Community so special?
5) End with "I'm a Star Citizen."
If you'd like to participate, upload that video to YouTube (Public or Unlisted) and place the link here in a post on this thread. Only links included here can be considered (legal stuff.)
To be considered, your video should have the best picture and sound you can manage. Mobile phone video is okay, just go to a nice quiet place with decent lighting to record it. We have to start picking those that will be included by October 3rd, so get your entries in as soon as you can, and maybe you'll find yourself part of the CitizenCon 2946 broadcast on Sunday, October 9th!
Find out what forums we visit so they can lurk and ban us for things?
After a shitty second article that was just the translation of that really awful Swedish rewrite of The Escapist's shitpiece last year, Kotaku UK (real link) (archive) is back with another actually fucking decent article, this time about what happened to Star Marine last year.
TL;DR Communication problems common to basically any outsourcing project meant a fuckton of redone work for Illfonic (this is why we kept hearing that it was almost there, almost there, almost there week after week), on top of shit having to be redone because CIG keeps changing shit (like the animation rigs and having to retarget literally thousands of animations), so basically a mini development hell. CIG brought it in-house, as they had hired a ton of people during the time Illfonic plugged away at it and now had the capacity to take the work on directly.
However, this is an interesting stand-out line:
One source told me that eventually Chris Roberts asked Illfonic if it could reconcile the problems in the FPS module, and the company instead ended its partnership with CIG.
Illfonic once implied, in a newsletter about their next project after the CIG partnership, that the end of the partnership had come as a surprise and that Illfonic had been left holding the bag, expecting a contract renewal. Now, it may very well be that the person writing that was not aware of why Illfonic wasn't on Star Marine anymore, at the time.
If this specific fact is true, I can't actually say that I blame Illfonic for not wanting to deal with a disorganized problem like that.
There are quotes directly from CR that support the general narrative being presented, so I feel fairly comfortable with the broad thrust of the article - poor communication with an outsourcer led to lots of work being redone - even if some of the specific details from anonymous sources are surprising.
Also, this bit:
After two years of working with CIG on Star Marine with no end in sight, and having to repeatedly redo its work, Illfonic’s team morale was shot. “It was numbing,” a source said.
You could actually watch this happening in real time with Illfonic's segments on Around the Verse, where they went from two guys full of enthusiasm to be speaking directly to backers about their progress, to one guy kind of enthusiastic to tell us what they worked on during the week, to one guy phoning it in because the community team's making him come on the show, to Illfonic's segment quietly falling out of News From Around The Verse.
That article says this:
While players would sometimes venture out of the cockpit, it wasn’t the focus, and so there wasn’t a pressing need to work on first-person systems to cater for it. As Star Citizen’s feature set grew, though, with stretch goals expanding its ambition with each passing month, more and more of the game would rely on first-person systems
It implies that the FPS gameplay wasn't going to be there at the start, where did they get that from? I thought it was something that was going to be there all along, the boarding stretch goal even supports that as it's for expanding the concept, not adding it to the game, and a later stretch goal is for adding FPS gameplay on planets while saying it's already planned for space stations. I thought the getting out of ships and doing stuff in first person had always been a big part of the game and was equally as important as the space gameplay all along, is that wrong?

Remember that at one time this was CIG's more immediate ambitions for a landing zone's accessible area, fairly small little depots you could get out of your ship at - with the goal of eventually expanding things. There may have been fps encounters in these zones, especially if you're a pirate in a secure zone or a goody-UEE-shoes in outlaw territory, but they would've likely been a bit basic in the early vision. So, it kind of doesn't surprise me to hear it described like this.
It was once a Big Deal that Chris had instructed the devs to hack support into Cryengine to allow Terra Prime's landing zone to take up a total of 8km x 8km instead of the 4km-a-side limit in vanilla CE. Prime was to be the unique jewel of the game, a massive, sprawling metropolis (that you could visit very limited parts of), extravagantly superior to everywhere else. It's still the case, but the scale of what counts as a typical landing zone has increased significantly.

Damn son, that's some ancient art you dug up
But it's true that SC started as minecraft and ended up being crysis warhead
Found evidence Kotaku is wrong about the FPS gameplay not being planned at the start. Chris did an AMA before the game was even funded, 4 days after the kickstarter began he said it would be there:

Also Mobiglas looks pretty sleek now too, customisable colours as well! Flight model changes look to be pretty interesting, slowing down the dogfighting seems like a good idea to me :v:

Star Citizen started as Wing Commander 2014 with Freelancer+ as its MP mode, but they're now shooting for Star Wars Galaxies meets Second Life.
I just want my wing commander

that's the retaliator's crew bay though?
that's the retaliator's crew bay though?
I think you're right. That seems too big for a Vanguard pod. I blame Reddit.
oh man they're finally bringing all the scm speeds down dramatically, I've always said this was one of the best things they can do to make the flight model feel less schizophrenic
we'll have wait to try it but this could be a huge step forward for the gameplay
