that's the retaliator's crew bay though?
I was going to say, it has the round walkway wall on the side there. Also confirms the giant mechanical things that lower it BUT, in the fact that the vanguard will have a hoplite version, I wonder what will be done to really separate the vanguard and the redeemer
I'm guessing either the Redeemer gets a scale-up (this may have already happened due to the Manchester effect) and occupies a slot at the Retaliator scale of ship, or its role is revised and it becomes more of a fuckpowerful gunship with a reduced focus on troop deployment or something.
oh man they're finally bringing all the scm speeds down dramatically, I've always said this was one of the best things they can do to make the flight model feel less schizophrenic we'll have wait to try it but this could be a huge step forward for the gameplay
Wait what? Where do they talk about that? Dude, that was the one thing I've always wanted them to try but never thought they would do because bigger numbers are better. Like seriously, the insane speeds everything moves at is a big part of why everything looks so God damn light and stupid when moving. It turned into this escalating war of bumping everything in the game up to hyper speeds just to keep up. You had super fast ships so you suddenly needed super fast bullets and then you ended up at where SC plays now. Like fuck, Freespace 2 is still my golden standard and most ships in there couldn't even fly 100m/s without the afterburner going. [editline]29th September 2016[/editline] Just found it in the latest ATV. All I can say is: BASED FOUNDRY 42. Why does everything good that has ever happened to Star Citizen come from the UK studio?
Fucking yesssss
Why does everything good that has ever happened to Star Citizen come from the UK studio?
came from I think his brother's studio that made lego adventure games
came from I think his brother's studio that made lego adventure games
Erin didn't poach everyone from his old studio. Plus so much engine magic has come out of Frankfurt.
So the days of obnoxious hyperactive gnat spaceships are gone?
For better or worse, aye. And there's indications of missiles and missile racks getting some love.
Erin didn't poach everyone from his old studio. Plus so much engine magic has come out of Frankfurt.
forgot to add a question mark at the end of the sentence, Erin did have influence in founding the uk branch right?
Germany literally saved Star Citizen
forgot to add a question mark at the end of the sentence, Erin did have influence in founding the uk branch right?
Erin basically started F42 Manchester when he joined Chris to work on SC, yeah. Two of the first handful of employees were from his old studio, and it's possible that a bunch more decided to leave to join him, but I'm less sure of that as I wasn't paying attention to SC at the time, and it's a bit beside the point. Erin did oversee making the LEGO crossover games and the studio was tight and on-point as fuck most of the time, as far as I understand it, so Erin has definitely brought good things to the project. SPOILER: The below thumbnail is a page from the script for the intro of SQ42, during the attack on Vega II. It does not show anything incredibly plot-sensitive, but it's a scene/moment we have not specifically seen yet. Expand at your own risk. [t]http://i.imgur.com/RAc3hoF.png[/t] Also, while looking up info (F42 Manchester was already in place when I became a backer), I found this (minor SQ42 intro spoiler). Everyone forgot this. It was right there all along. We should have seen this coming. Even better view of the script: [sp]http://i.imgur.com/kkqMUw6.png[/sp] Vega II was an inside job.
Anyone here mind terribly if I post the Kotaku article on SC in Sensationalist Headlines? For one, I think people will get a kick out of Kotaku actually producing a good bit of journalism for a change, and for another, I think it'd be refreshing to get the perspectives of outsiders to the project on the issue.
I have a problem with the clickbaity bait they couldn't help insert into even the seemingly-straight-line Star Marine article (at the end), but it's far from the worst "what happened to X thing from SC?" article posted by a writer whose only agenda is to get paid for doing their job.
It already went up in News Node or something didn't it? I swear I've seen it somewhere else in FP.
I have a gigantic boner for the Constellation.
that minigame for the radar is gross. hope they change it.
X-Rebirth had the exact same system, and tbh it's not that bad when you're used to it. unless the "sweet spot" changes every time, it's just a matter of timing.
X-Rebirth had the exact same system, and tbh it's not that bad when you're used to it. unless the "sweet spot" changes every time, it's just a matter of timing.
Maybe, but I hope there is a bit more complexity to dedicated scanning stations because honking around a system would get very tedious very fast. (Looking at you elite.) I'd really like to see a system kinda like mass effect 2 s scanning where you get this radar ball of space around your ship (maybe a set of them for each kind of signal) and you have to home in on faint signals to find stuff far away, while closer things produce more noise. Kinda like this (really shit example, I might do something better when I get home) And better scanners give better resolution on the scanner sphere, as well some more focused/shitty scanners might not give a whole sphere rather you have to rotate the ship to see what is below/behind you.
RtV right now, discussing the scanning shit. The "golf swing" scan mechanic shown on AtV is totally an early placeholder for the more sophisticated scanning system they're building. The plan, according to RtV guys right now, is for scanning to be much more involved. It begins with first sending out a pulse, which both alerts you to nearby ships and pings those ships' sensors. You can charge up the potency of the pulse, but if you charge it too much you can overload it and temporarily disable your own radar while sending out a bright beacon to everyone around -- making you both blind and screaming your existence to the neigbourhood so hope you weren't trying to be stealthy. Also, radar and scanning are going to be two separate things. Radar detects what's near you but only detects existence; you then have to point at a target and actively scan it, which reveals more information about the target the longer you scan. Different scanners/scan modules will reveal different information and can better (or not) penetrate defenses against scanning. Identifying if someone is a wanted criminal might require a module that actively communicates with the police databases (I mean how do you just psychically know in most games?); working out the specific contents of cargo containers requires something invasive. There's also to be a complex play of being able to add upgrades to particular ship components that mask and hinder identification when scanning, ship sensors can be more or less sensitive/paranoid about scans (a sneaky ship may have sensors that immediately throw red alerts if they detect a scan pulse), ship scanners that can be more or less covert (specialized gear will be able to scan someone without alerting them), and so on. There's also scanning for miners, scanning asteroids and trying to reveal more information about the asteroid. The Prospector would have a specialized scanner that would pull out info about where the concentrated veins are while an Aurora with a basic mining scanner bolted on would be like "this rock contains iron". Capships will have more sophisticated scanning mechanisms and they intend for there to be info sharing with other crew in the ship as well as beaming that information to other ships for fleet awareness. Still fairly early yet, but they give an example of two ships passing radar information between each other -- with a Herald in the middle eavesdropping on both sides of the conversation, e.g. overhearing a pair of miners surveying an unclaimed belt and privately (so they think) reporting the ores they find where the Herald can hear and run off to claim-jump them.

Has there been any hints as to what will be shown at CitCon next week? Are we getting a Squadron 42 mission runthrough?
Has there been any hints as to what will be shown at CitCon next week? Are we getting a Squadron 42 mission runthrough?
Squadron 42 stuff, more on Alpha 3.0, some minor things on 2.6.
Has there been any hints as to what will be shown at CitCon next week? Are we getting a Squadron 42 mission runthrough?
Chris said in an interview that we'll get to see "a typical SQ42 mission". At and after Gamescom he promised to show us the planetary procgen V2 that wasn't ready for prime time then. I wouldn't be surprised if PG v2 is shown off with another demo in Stanton, this time with a different NPC and different location. Optimistically we'd land at an actual Stanton landing zone like ArcCorp or Hurston instead of going to GrimHex or Levski, but that's total speculation/wishful thinking from me. If 3.0 is supposed to have a ton of locations, I'd hope at least some of them can be shown off now if 3.0 is to come out within the next 2-3 months. It's likely that we'll see some 2.6 gameplay, since it'll be the next big patch in Evocati/PTU/live after Citcon and it makes sense to hype it up (especially since it means Star Marine is finally coming), although who knows how much we'll get with a SQ42 mission demo on the schedule. I'd be surprised if we don't see more about the characters and character customization. It'd be nice to see the Herald fly, too. So basically what KaptonJack said.
elix you're like a walking talking [read more] option

Once they get to the point where the planet making system is more final, it would be great to have a video showing the whole process of making one.

Well yeah he's brought more attention to it than anyone
So, I have a serious question. Was he actually born with the last name 'Smart', or did he have it changed later in life to fit his ego?
"Game Developer" "Smart" "Successful"

I knew this day would come.
Shame his name isn't Barry. He could sign himself B Smart.
