• Star Citizen Megathread - Star Marine isn't doomed after all!

Hurricane took a 20 mile detour off the coast which dramatically reduced the wind that I would have gotten from the hurricane down to only a strong tropical storm. The worst has already passed. Long as I don't lose power later on, I'm looking forward to the stream. I actually have the day off as well, so I'll be around. :toot:
https://www.twitch.tv/starcitizen BTW it's on guys.
Polaris is a fat Constellation http://imgur.com/gallery/cDYVJ
Eh, not really. It's not an incoherent visual mess like the Constellation is. :v:
quality turret placement, CIG
It makes me think of a Constellation strapped into a giant booster rocket. Like taking this: [t]http://www.macross2.net/m3/sdfmacross/vf-1a-valkyrie/vf-1a-fullyarmed-fightermultipleviews.gif[/t] and adding a giant booster to it: [t]http://www.macross2.net/m3/sdfmacross/atmospherebooster/vf-1-booster-lineart.gif[/t]
Why is every ship stupid.
tbh it's basically an up-greebled elite ship design wise
I like the way it looks. I think having so many turrets is still a dumb idea because manned turrets are a dumb idea, but the ship looks cool. While we're on the subject of annoying nitpicks though, I really appreciate that CIG wants to standardize missiles and their launchers. This is a good thing. However it bugs me how puny the missiles look. Like, the majority of them are comically small compared to the ships that are mounting, and those are with the maximum size of missile they're allowed to carry. [editline]7th October 2016[/editline] What's with the big hangar bay looking doors thing on top of the Polaris? Is it supposed to carry a fighter or two? [t]http://i.imgur.com/Wcv3gJo.jpg[/t]
What's with the big hangar bay looking doors thing on top of the Polaris? Is it supposed to carry a fighter or two?
maybe "The Polaris includes the facilities to repair, rearm and refuel a single fighter, light bomber or support ship." (this could just as easily mean that it opens up and does all that stuff on the outside instead of actually having storage space, who knows) apparently there's an anim of the doors on the presale page but I'm not a subscriber/citcon attendee/concierge
you can tell from the size that it's a hangar for a single small ship
http://i.imgur.com/KidaQcC.gifv here you are on that gif mate
I think it looks alright, but it's definitely not as visually interesting as other ships in SC. Not every ship is going to be or even can be as unique as the rest, after all.
It's literally just a fat constellation, which is okay. What's not okay is that the bridge is a small ass room with more strut than window. It looks goofy.
you can tell from the size that it's a hangar for a single small ship
"small ship" is subjective given you could probably park all six of those gladius (a bit snugly) in there
So I've been following this not so closely for ages, should I get into this?
So I've been following this not so closely for ages, should I get into this?
This is the feature list of what's playable now. And what it doesn't mention is that the performance of the main event, the Crusader map, is pretty crap because of legacy netcode. It's still pretty alpha despite looking pretty, and the netcode is just one example. If you can handle that, great. If not, you don't miss out on much by waiting -- the game doesn't need your pledge to survive, and you're basically preordering. You have picked the right time to get interested, however. The largest event of the year for the project is happening on Sunday: CitizenCon, with streaming starting at/around 3pm PST/10pm UTC. We are also expecting a significant patch, 2.6, to come out this month (entirely likely to get delayed until next month if necessary, though) and an even more significant update, 3.0, near the end of the year. More news on both of these is expected at Citizencon, although firm release dates are not expected (as usual).
So I've been following this not so closely for ages, should I get into this?
I would wait for another year or so, unless you're really eager to play the alpha. They do sales and promotions all the time so you can hop on when it looks like they're getting closer to release. Their release dates keeps slipping, the scope of the game keeps changing and there's a bunch of controversy surrounding the whole development process.
So I've been following this not so closely for ages, should I get into this?
Keep an eye on it and follow its news because things are kind of starting to come together now, but it's not worth playing right now. There's not really a game to "get into" at the moment.

The scope doesn't keep changing, they haven't increased the scope in about 2 years, when the last strech goal was added back in 2014. The "controversy" (I'm not entirely sure what you're referring to, I'm assuming it's those recent articles) is absurd and from what I've seen is from pretty much entirely from people who don't understand how videogame development works.
If you want to watch the stream: https://www.twitch.tv/starcitizen going on now, raffles btw [editline]8th October 2016[/editline] Also if they get 7500 viewers at any point, giving away a Polaris
They are giving out the Polaris this raffle, so join in chat, type !raffle, and just sit any wait.
You do have to be in the chat at the time they draw at the top of the hour.
they're drawing for a second polaris, raffle in again

So, the event is scheduled to begin in 1 hour 20 as of this post, and if things are as delayed as usual, that means it's actually getting underway in 2. If you want to join your fellow FPCORP members to watch the stream together, join us in Discord. The stream is at https://twitch.tv/starcitizen but if you go to the RSI event stream page you can see (and use, if logged in) the backer chat instead of Twitch chat. If you participate in either Twitch or RSI chat, be aware that mentioning DS is not tolerated; on Twitch it'll get you timed out immediately. As of now there are 5700 people in Twitch chat and 3600 in backer chat, 80 minutes before the event even begins. Reminder that CIG is expected to show: - The RSI Polaris's actual concept reveal - a walkthrough of a typical mission in SQ42 (stated by CR in an interview) - Planetary procgen V2 (promised at Gamescom) which implies a 3.0 demo - "And more"; Star Marine is probably included, if nothing else but to show where it's at and to show off the smoothed camera Things I speculate we'll see: - Planetary landing at a landing zone in Stanton other than Levski, possibly recreating the Gamescom 2014 planetside demo's beginning but live and seamless - The new Star Marine map even if we don't get to see a demo match - Maybe another (smaller) surprise ship concept reveal - The Herald used somewhere in a demo? - Vanguard Hoplite used in a demo - AI teammates as well as hostiles, possibly with ordering them around somehow (Inner Thought?) - New music by Pedro The September monthly report is probably going up early next week so they can talk about what they did for Citizencon without spoiling it.
Doesn't it start in an hour?
it does
