Star Citizen Megathread - Star Marine isn't doomed after all!

The sabot missile launchers are giving me a BONER though.
older design commentary states the reliant should have a speed somewhere between auroras and mustangs, but it has hella agility due to the xi'an tech engines and maneuvering thruster setup (everything's 'S1' on the design page but there's 12 goddamn thrusters). That's its thing, crazy motion.
Beyond that, CS missiles are only one point. Who's to say it doesn't have some other unique signature characteristics
Shield is S3-S4 depending on variant
4 S1 hardpoints on the combat variant
2 S2's on the ball turret

p. sure he's referring to its gigantic physical size making it an easy target for guns
So by the way, the 2.1 update is hitting PTU later today.
YEAH YOU HEARD ME. GET BACK IN THERE AND TEST SHIT
from the side, it's allegedly 29m tall by 13 long (though the wing things are probably 10 long at their biggest
while it's a broad target compared to the side profile of most ships, it's the same top to bottom as a cutlass is nose to tail, with a slimmer overall profile since it's coming to points instead of spreading out into a square. Not too shabby, just really have to be careful with your motion in tight spaces
Ah fuck it's limited invite again
dang, thought they'd just be doing an opt-in
also size comparison so you can scale it in terms of stuff we've seen ingame

a lot of its shots are doofy and round but seeing that profile really reminds me of this thing from the lost in space reboot film

in other news, I wish I could gift CCU cards, but a few 'upgrade' gifts I'm gonna have to get into my friends' accounts manually to do, or hand them money and say 'only spend it on this'... but that's not exactly a surprise upgrade, heh

Sadly I don't own a Freelancer/Sabre so I really have no place in this PTU test.
There's a lot of other functionality to test. Also at least we can nag other players to let you on board their lancers!
also yee I got the invite
Never mind. I got a Sabre. Lost track of what ships I own for a moment.
if you get an invite, use the website to copy your account to PTU, the option on your launcher doesn't seem to do it.
The crosshair visibility (and HUD visibility in general) is a pervasive issue. We seriously need the ability to customize our HUD colors, and the colors of specific elements so I'm not having to figure out which blue circular thing is my crosshair when there's at least four of them all in the same general area.
The Reliant has got to have a lot of armor/shields or it will be a deathtrap to fly in combat. That thing has a massive cross-section, it's impossible to miss.
The issue with HUD visibility is that they are going with a "realistic" projection/hologram thing. In other words, you can have light, but you cant have dark in a HUD. You need contrast to make sure a HUD is visible in all situations but their design means that's not possible. IMO they should just pretend theres some future tech that allows it and do it, its not hard.
Woo got an invite, time to bum rides off freelancer pilots!
Oh hey, invite. I bought a Xi'An->MIS token with store credit to apply on the PTU so I could try it out. Hopefully they've got 'lancer loaners set up already or I'm gonna be a bit useless in testing the new ship stuff.
dang, thought they'd just be doing an opt-in
The number of people who'd rush in without even caring to do any beta testing, just wanting to see the new hotness, would blow the servers right out of the water.

You... can? At least you could, before the new X->Y upgrade system. But only if you paid cash on the upgrade token. Upgrade tokens bought with store credit are account bound like anything else. (Last I saw, applying an account-bound CCU to a giftable ship did not infect it with account-lock.)

dang, it appears I can. I tried during the anniversary sale with a cash-only transaction and it didn't work

time to melt tomorrow!
Someone posted some PTU screenshots of the Freelancer.

Also, the unmelt tool is up. It's called Pledge Buy Back in My Hangar. Currently it seems to only allow cash payments but the reddit has a post saying Ben confirms it'll be fixed to allow store credit to be used.

view from the top feels clunky but every other angle, just unf
You know, I actually don't like the look of the Sabre. Kind of glad I didn't get one. I really like the cockpit, though. I can only hope the cockpit on the Hornet series gets the same kind of love that all these Aegis ships seem to have - Hornet cockpit looks awful by comparison, and the screens don't even work.
The Hornet series has gone almost completely unmodified since it was placed into the hangar as part of the First Five. Expect an overhaul to bring it up to the Connie's level eventually. At least it doesn't look like the GDC pitch cockpit - that thing was ugly as fuck from an aesthetic angle, no matter how cool the functional, reactive cockpit looked in the video.
I think the Sabre is my favorite looking ship in Star Citizen right now. It's too bad it won't fly anything like it looks, and I'm a little concerned that all of its guns are effectively fixed because CIG still thinks mixing fixed and gimballed weapons is a remotely good idea, but to me it definitely looks the part of a cool ass space fighter.
So on the site it says the Xi'an Khartu-Al has max crew of 2.. where is the other seat? :v:
So on the site it says the Xi'an Khartu-Al has max crew of 2.. where is the other seat? :v:
there's a second seat when getting in, which retracts up into the body and you sit inside that ball turret just above the cockpit. Not sure if its been downgraded to 1 seat due to that being goofy though

Old concept for it, probably inaccurate now as far as how the actual animations work.
oh shit, i can get a superhornet -> freelancer mis and a mustang omega -> 300i upgrade
if i do it but i don't like those ships can i do it the other way or is it one time only
Thanks to the buyback tool, you should be able to reverse things. However, be very careful with the Omega, because if you can't get that back, that's it until the PU (unless they put Omegas up for REC or something).
The AMD paint job is probably exclusive to the AMD Omega packs, but it's been confirmed that Omegas will be for sale in the PU.

I don't see how you could recover something you upgraded. if you wanted to go back you'd have to melt your current package and buy something else instead of using an upgrade
also fuck the omega, even if the paint job is exclusive, it's just an ad for AMD. and unless you want to race the ship is useless

Well, gee. It's a racer. No shit it's useless for combat or hauling.
News flash, the RSI Orion is also shit at combat and racing.
As for how you recover something you upgraded, this is how.

It only restores the original purchase item, though. So a P-72 upgraded to a Hornet and then upgraded to a Carrack, and then melted, would only allow buying back the P-72. The subsequent upgrades would be up to you to reapply if you wanted them (but you could probably unmelt them as well).
Currently it says no store credit, but that's being changed, apparently.

There is a racing Starfarer in the lore, though.
Reminder that the R&Y hangar is being expanded in order to fit the Starfarer. (The others will follow, I presume.)
Wait the Sabre is hangar ready in the PTU?
That was fast.
They're trying to get things into the hangar earlier so backers have more time to give feedback - the tradeoff is that ships may be declared "hangar-ready" with fucktons of basically placeholder assets, like Vanguards using Tali props until its own get fully fleshed out.
The Reliant's probably going to be hangar-ready, if not flight-ready, in 2.2. Speculation on my part, but they prioritized the hell out of getting a third starter into the mix.
Reminder that they are focusing on getting the base ships in first, variants second; this is why the base Freelancer is flight ready but the Connie Aquila is not.
