Wait the Sabre is hangar ready in the PTU?
That was fast.
consequence of it basically being a kitbash of a bunch of aegis parts
Can't decide if I want to put down the money for a Retaliator Base so I can fly one now, or a Khartu-Al so I can fly it in maybe under 2 months :v:
here's what you do
-buy a Taurus
-get a bunch of free CCUs from Taurus to Blue/Base/Khartu
-try all of em out when they become available and keep the one you want
2.1 already in PTU, god damn. I wonder if shit is going to go this fast from now on.

Actually, point of question: If I get the Retaliator Base, it'll give me the Bomber as a loaner in the PTU. Will it also give me the Bomber to poke around in the Hangar with or no?
yes

wait a second...

are they using thrusters as intakes currently, or is this ship going to have eyeball exploding braking speeds?

So there's a bug right now that if you fire the Freelancer's weapons, the audio loop sticks until you restart the client. :v:

it's the same intakes that are on the vanguard?

they're literally variable exhaust nozzles lol

I don't know if CIG knows that.
Either way I'm not opposed to the idea that reverse thrusters might be very powerful, but highly fuel inefficient. It's all going to get controlled by the IFCS anyway.
Why is the Sabre so huge for a one man fighter?
Why is the Sabre so huge for a one man fighter?
there's a bit of nagging here and there about making it less.. fat..
It's a stealth fighter for god sake
Looks like a standard sized aircraft to me, albeit aesthetically chunky. I think it's not so much big as some of the starter ships are small. It would be weird if there were nothing inbetween "Space Sedan" and "Techno B-17"
Some ship lengths for the sake of comparison. It definitely falls on the larger side of things, even for Star Citizen.
Reliant: 13m
Mustang: 18m
Avenger: 19m
Gladius: 20m
Hornet: 23m
300i: 24m
Saber: 26m
Freelancer: 32m
Vanguard: 37m
Constellation: 61m
And just for fun:
F-16: 14.9m
MiG-29: 17.3m
F-22: 18.8m
F-15: 19.5m
T-50: 19.8m
Su-27: 21.9m
Most ships that have gone through the new component sizes process or are going through the pipeline after the component size changes went in got larger by a limited amount in order to fit things. Most of the ships were designed without any thought about how they'll fit everything needed to actually make them run.
The original ships were designed around rule of cool almost exclusively. How else do you explain the 300i's radar ball+dashboard glow? (The HUD is a placeholder, yes, but still, it's a terrible one.)
I am so fucking glad that I bought and melted a tonne of fantastic ships with LTI.
MISC STARFARER TANKER - LTI
F7C-R HORNET TRACKER - LTI
F7C-S HORNET GHOST - LTI
RSI AURORA LN - LTI
AEGIS DYNAMICS AVENGER - LTI
DRAKE INTERPLANETARY CATERPILLAR - LTI
RSI CONSTELLATION - LTI
ORIGIN 325A FIGHTER - LTI
ORIGIN 315P EXPLORER - LTI
+ a heap of game bundles.
Might buy back the Ghost - it really tickled my fancy at the time, but being short on money with a limited income I melted it to get the F7C-M Weekend Warrior bundle.
Between this and DCS 2.0 I am short of a visit to the Coronary Care Unit.
my big complaint with the sabre is that it's fucking fat from the top, with stubby winglets to boot. Maybe this is just the tradeoff for a super thin side/front profile but damn reducing the body 20% on either side and making the wings look half normal does wonders
in hangar now:

Had a quick look and I haven't seen this posted, if you want to try ships you don't own in Arena Commander or just in the hangar you can do some trickery with this.

Ignore the offline PTU stuff, it's outdated, but like it says you paste into your loginData.json and as long as you don't boot with the launcher you get to try out their ships.
M50 is fantastic for going to sleep if you turn Gsafe off.
Sooooo, it's almost guaranteed not final handling, but the Freelancer is a superior racing ship in PTU 2.1 once you turn on afterburner (which, like the Gamma in 2.0, is infinite), where it achieves up to 520m/s and still retains control.

Hoo boy, I can see the shitstorm on the horizon. I hope they fix that, fast.
I'm not even going to say my usual line.
About the Freelancer handling better than the Hornet.
Totally not going to say it. I'm going to bed now.
Just got myself a F7C Hornet.
Where do I get started?

Played any of Arena Commander yet?
You can talk to Dai/Elix/Jono/the upper ups about Discord - I have no idea about how to send an invite.
From there we could try and organize a group Vanduul swarm.
FPSC Discord channel is here. I guess putting a link in the OP would be a good idea. Agree/Disagree?
However it's like 4am for me and I'm faded so I'm not gonna be up for more than a few more minutes.

First, download the 30GB client, SSD would be better than HDD if you have one with room.
Second, explore your hangar and check it out. There won't be much to see, but have a look around and familiarize yourself with the basic controls (WASD, F to use, etc., pretty vanilla). Make sure to place the Hornet in your hangar config, too. (You can pick what hangar you want, from the ones available.)
When you're ready to practice a bit of flying, hit esc or activate the SimPod, hit up Arena Commander and load into the single-player tutorial. After that (and even if it gets stuck on the combat), hop into single-player Free Flight to practice more and explore the two available maps a bit. That'll help you get a handle on the controls a bit.
Also, when the fuck did I gain access to the VFG hangar, and why? Okay, CIG, whatever, I'm not gonna complain.
Launcher is currently at Updating. 0 bytes downloading, no estimated time left, apparently 8.2 GB remaining.
[editline]fix[/editline]
Had to pause / resume the updating. It's ok now.
Not for me, it isn't. Is this a PTU-only thing?
I'm not in the PTU, so perhaps?
I'm not in the PTU, so perhaps?
Oh, I see. You hadn't updated your client previously?
I had it updated, left it overnight to download, and it was stuck when I woke up. I just paused and resumed the download for it to continue.
