Star Citizen Megathread - Star Marine isn't doomed after all!

Felt pretty good about myself getting to round 7 in a bot battle so I decided to try the real deal.

Whelp.
Figured out I just need to exit and re-enter my seat to fix it though.
Oh - so snub fighter means it docks internally? I assumed it latched to the outside using the docking collar that video dai linked made a big deal about.
Would the Caterpillar be able to carry these?
I've done the math, and sure hope so! It would require two cargo segments to accomplish. The walls/doorways between compartments will allegedly be able to widen/be removed to make one big compartment, so the space should be more than there, but if it's stuck as doorways you could still very carefully make do. Also, the wings fold up when in storage, so this has both up and out for what-iffery. Also the winglets on this are slightly longer than the P52, as it's the luxury/racing P72 variant (shameless self promotion)

there's also this concept, which may hint that there's a module that's top-loadable AND two units long, so... yeah.

a fan made unit just like that-

You could launch both of those from a pair of regular cargo sections since the sides open up like doors. You'd still have the catwalk above for getting around. Omigosh.
I've been tooling around thanks to elixwhitetail and I'm having a blast. Definitely sold on this and really glad my laptop can handle it.
version 2.0.0 here, are the training missions in arena commander stuttering really bad for anyone else? I get great fps in online and the drone missions, but it seems when an instruction tutorial thing pops up I stutter really bad.
uh, important to note that whilst any ship that can fit another ship in its hold can carry it, it would be considered a 'packed up' state that can't be launched from, needing to be unloaded like cargo at a destination
so you could use a caterpillar to transport a racing ship to and from events, but you couldn't launch it on the fly like a snub fighter unless they add some sort of specialised hangar module.
that's my understanding at least, I recall ben clarified that somewhere pretty recently
[editline]23rd December 2015[/editline]
but with how large the caterpillar is turning out to be, it wouldn't surprise me if they did add a snub hangar module

I hope they justify that with something like not being able to fuel/arm fighters in non-hangar modules or something. It's a pretty non-issue though. People just have a huge fetish for snub/deployable craft when really what they want is a fighter escort. The real carriers will have real benefits to carrying real craft with real hangars.

forgot to mention that, yeah. I plan on it being considered 'stored' but would love the ability to have it officially dock through the cat's nose gate or something
on that same note, larger ships will be capable of being packed down into crates for shipping but obviously that'd come at a cost

welcome to the exciting part of SC: theorycrafting what we'll be able to do eventually :v:
Everyone wants to try and turn X-Ship-They-Own into a pocket carrier because they don't want to have to spend $1250 on an Idris. CIG has been asked "Will X fit in this" for practically every combination of ship in the game.
Tardis Space Industries plz let me dock an M50 in an M50.

The tutorial has some optimization issues, yes. It hasn't been updated in like 6 months.
You're better off going into free-flight and learning on your own, really.

Symmetrical docking!?!? On MY christian image board? Mods pls ban this sick filth. Think of the children :v:
the answer to "can X be a pocket carrier" is pretty much always no, but ever since they said "wellllll I GUESS you can buy the P52 separate from a constellation" this has been slightly retconned. In the very least, a few ships could be a pocket transport with no reasonable take-off capability for the snub

Bought my very own Aurora LN. Time to flounder around and explode until I get brave enough to try something harder than breathing. Here goes.
It would be useful if they let me roam around the hangar module without owning any ships. That would at least let me know if I can run it.
People who were in last free flight still have game package till 2. january.
They can even go to PU, but won't have any ships to spawn. They can join others or steal tho.
My point isn't to pimp SC, it's this
bullshit
No, seriously. Don't you think I would've picked sexier pics if I was trying to whore SC to people? I was talking about the texture tricks.

So how about that artificial gravity huh?
Someone remind me what lore reason they finally decided upon
Someone remind me what lore reason they finally decided upon
"It's the 30th century, stfu" is about the last I heard.
Plus, it's fun>realism. You're supposed to be able to use larger ships like the Idris as a "level" to repel boarders, like turning off artificial gravity suddenly, or sealing bulkheads and then opening an airlock to space intruders.
Hey, remember that guy on Reddit who used to condense 10FTC/FTP/FTD/Whatever episodes into this funny TL;DR that made the answers kind almost like CR was tired of stupid questions? Whatever happened to those? I don't use Reddit, but nobody's posted one on FP for ages.

Beer4TheBeerGod?
He's on SomethingAwful. I don't go to SC reddit that often, not sure if he still does them

Yeah, him.
He's gotten on the Derek shittrain along with pretty much the rest of the Goons in the thread, and as always it's hard to tell when ironic shitposting and legitimate hate-filled shitposting end and begin.

That's a real shame. You'd think 2.0's release would've pacified a lot of those idiots.
The ironic shitposters are just doing it to rile up and feed DS, in typical Goon fashion. It's really hard to know who legitimately believes the bile they're spewing and who's just keeping in-character to make Derek dance. He loves the attention they give him and rushes back to them all the time whenever he comes up with something new in order to impress his 'friends'. Sad, really.
I suspect the griefer pool is going to quickly become the goon pool, if CIG designs it effectively enough.

Goon's always been griefers, though. Like Goonswarm in Eve.
And CIG knows this. The goal of their griefing detection is to separate griefers from their would-be victims in graduated responses leading to temporary or permanent confinement in the griefer matchmaking pool and, in severe cases, temp/permabanning from the game.
Precisely what constitutes griefing has not been explained, but CR was careful to make the distinction between piracy and legit PVP, and griefing players to ruin their enjoyment. Things like hovering just outside the green zone in a newbie-start station, popping new players as soon as they leave before they've even learned how to fly properly.
beer4thebeergod was a great sarcastic complaint machine and an icon of the cutlass threads, he was very prominent and often got some special treatment in nabbing interviews and getting his questions answered by devs. Didn't know he was a goon, would have guessed he'd be in TEST squadron by his very nature
in the meantime, "wooOOoooo"

If I where to buy the freelancer, would I have access to the alpha? Or do I need one of those arena commander packages?
If I where to buy the freelancer, would I have access to the alpha? Or do I need one of those arena commander packages?
You just need to buy a pledge package. Not a standalone ship package, but a game package. I'm sure there's one available for the 'Lancer.
Also, another question for anyone in the know: When the Vanguard is made flyable, will it be put up for sale again? I'm considering melting my Redeemer for one. Assuming it gets good reviews and handles right. Since I plan on being a bounty hunter, the Hornet's probably going to be valuable, but its lack of long-range capability bothers me. The Vanguard might be just the ticket.
100% need a game package to play.
Lucky for you, there's a freelancer game package! This includes the ship, beta access, pre-order for the game stuff, and a bunch of little perks to get you started when the universe goes live
Arch- they'll definitely go up for sale again. Also is your redeemer giftable hint hint nudge nudge

It is giftable, apparently. Why do you ask? It does say that once claimed it will no longer be giftable a second time, however.
[editline]23rd December 2015[/editline]
You're not thinking what I think you're thinking, are you?
of having you gift it to me? yes
[sp]also I've been saying I'd trade my LTI vang sentinel for redeemer to save someone a few bucks[/sp]
