The tutorial has issues and hasn't been updated since the giant codebase merge. You're probably better off learning to fly in Free Flight Drone Sim. The hard reset on the other hand is a bit of a concern. Make sure the temperatures don't go crazy.
If it happens at four and a half minutes, you're getting timed out and kicked from the server. Move your install to SSD if you can.
Guess I'll have to buy a SSD then. :v: That shit sucks.
That shit sucks.
I'm using an SSD and it has made my PC at least 400% faster then it used to be SSD's are fucking magic, yo
Yeah but I don't have the money to spend on it. I currently would only need it for Star Citizen.
Watched SW: The Force Awakens. Even more hyped for SC now. Is this a normal reaction?

Dropping out of warp is cool in every game or movie that includes it, tons of different approaches to the sound and visuals

Make sure the temperatures don't go crazy.
I just flew freeflight and temps were fine actually, maxed out at 70+ish°C for the GPU and 60°C for the CPU on medium graphics. As a Christmas treat for myself (got some money from gramps. <3 you granpa) I picked up the upgrade to the LX and the P72 Archimedes. Can I just say how awesome the audio is even now? Flying the Aurora and hearing it rattle as you push the afterburn is too good. Does so much to add character to the ship, it's exactly what I expected. The controls are so well designed and easy to pick up (same with the EVA controls), and I had a lot of fun landing on asteroids and even on the rotating solar panel on the orbital laser thing (pretty sure everyone's done this) and hopping out to take a look at the ship. I then flew the Merlin I think? (Archimedes isn't flight-ready yet so they give you the base model). Even more pleased with this little beauty, love the ironsight-like view down the nose you get when zeroing in a shot, like flying a giant rifle. I could dick around for hours, but unfortunately within minutes I crashed at a considerable velocity after trying to purposefully black out and caused my PC to hard reset again. Definitely not a temperature issue, event viewer just says "unexpected shutdown". I remember having the same issue with Warframe in its early days, dodgy code or drivers might be causing the crashes. I might give the Vanduul swarm mode a try at a later date but until they make things a little more stable I'll save my efforts until then. Still super happy
yes also noticing that dropping out of quantum looks cooler than dropping out of light speed
One of the main reasons I'm so fond of the Hornet series is because the lines remind me of the X-wing. That's also part of the reason I'm so annoyed that the ship's so sluggish.
keeping your sig low
ugh they really need to get working on decal damage
yes also noticing that dropping out of quantum looks cooler than dropping out of light speed
Looks better than dropping out of supercruise. Mainly because dropping out of sc into local space is a loading screen. :v: And I only have one thing to say about that Freelancer. full burn, kickin' into overdrive
Watched SW: The Force Awakens. Even more hyped for SC now. Is this a normal reaction?
I've been dicking around with the SC alpha for so long, every time in the film the Millennium Falcon was slamming into the ground and flipping around like a coin and stuff it felt really weird that it stayed intact and didn't just explode into a billion pieces.
flipping around like a coin
certainly felt like SC whenever this happened
Watching that one scene where (not really a spoiler but discusses part of the movie, so...) [sp] Poe Dameron, that ace X-wing pilot, was making his ship dance around like a ballerina and wrecking all those TIEs, I was thinking, "Bullshit, last time I tried *that* maneuver, I blacked out! What are G-forces?" [/sp] But all the space combat scenes felt like I was watching SC's gameplay. That's when I realized just how right CR had gotten it.

Plot devices are amazing, aren't they?

Is it possible to make a meetup? How would we do that?
Well, right now, kinda no. Party joins pretty much don't work. There is a way to get into a session with others but it's a total crapshoot. CIG is aware and is working on a solution, because they want it since it'll allow groups dedicated to testing to be able to isolate themselves in an instance and control the entire instance's conditions (as much as possible) to improve bug reporting, as well as the obvious quality of life increase for all players. And when we do, we need to get a few people to lay down together on the edge of the landing pads at the various stations, and other places (like asteroids). If you hold either roll key when prone, you flop over onto your back with your shoulders and head propped up by your elbows, but you flop back over as soon as you let go. Have a few of us on the pads, nonchalantly sunbathing, and completely ignoring everything in the background while crazy shit's going on, like Korro smashing his LN into the pad, or a gunfight happening at Kareah. "Wish you were here!" If we got the perfect shot I'd try and arrange to do them up like actual postcards and send them to CIG.
So very tempted to buy the alpha version with one of the ships. Could anyone give me a quick overview of the game in it's current state? Never played a space sim but always wanted to, was tempted with elite dangerous but this looks a whole lot better.

Never played a space sim but always wanted to, was tempted with elite dangerous but this looks a whole lot better.
Current playable feature list in the latest live patch. Single-player campaign will be rendering realtime cinematic scenes like this: Summary of current state of game in ways that matter when comparing to Elite: - SC does not have persistence yet - SC does not have a live economy yet - A significant fraction of the ships are not implemented in playable form yet, but multicrew ships have begun hitting live (Retaliator, Constellation, Freelancer in 2.1 on the separate test server) - Matchmaking is temporarily shit for anything but Arena Commander (which is similar to ED's CQC - it's literally an in-universe video game/dogfighting simulator, and there are no permanent consequences for crashing) - Balance is still ongoing and very WIP - Stability and performance issues - Still holds 10x as much promise as currently displayed by Elite and by Frontier's recent (lack of) handling of community feedback $45 gets you everything you need. Unlike ED, gameplay elements aren't going to be locked behind paywalls. There is an important exception, and that is that Squadron 42 is the first of a trilogy of campaigns (think Wing Commander 1-3). You'll need to purchase the sequels individually (pricing waaay TBA) if you want to play them. However, they're optional if what you really want is the online sandbox experience (the Persistent Universe).
Thanks mate, I'm really not too bothered about squadron 42 it's more the online persistent world I'm bothered about. Think I may treat myself to this with my Christmas money!
Recall that any purchases above and beyond the $45 price point is optional. If you want to go for a more expensive package because you want the ship it includes, go for it, but if you're sticking to $45, I recommend this one. It's better-armed than the standard $45 Aurora starter package, and that's because the retail-game portion of the package (less the ship) is only $10 instead of $15, so you effectively save $5. If I may ask, what do you wanna do in the PU? There are plans for a wide range of careers (although it remains to be seen how many will be actual skill-based activities and how many will be silly minigames) beyond combat and hauling.

Thanks [editline]26th December 2015[/editline] Ah, so there's a referral code spreadsheet in the OP, shame I didn't see it when I signed up a week ago. I might as well add mine and stop bugging people?
So conflicted on whether I should buy/exchange my 300i and pay $68 for a Freelancer or not, i mean its a cheap Serenity from Firefly basically. But how usable is it so far?

At its current state, you'll just be learning the basics of the ships and FPS. you can do a little bit of exploration though since you have missions and stations.
Ah sweet, that sounds like a good ship to start with then.
AFAIK the ships are priced according to how rare CIG wants them to be, but once the in-game economy is functional, you'll be able to buy them all in-game and only able to buy a few small ships with real money.
