Guess I'll have to buy a SSD then. :v: That shit sucks.
I'm running my Star Citizen install on a Western Digital 'Green' hard drive, a pretty traditional, inexpensive hard drive, which sacrifices drive speed for product lifetime and low energy use. It's usually supposed to be for servers and office use, not so much for gaming. It's giving me no issues with Star Citizen, so I imagine you should be able to run it on a normal drive if you have the right hardware, too.

I have no issues with other games that usually take a long time to load like the latest Battlefield games. :|

Moar items added to the raffle and only a little over 5 hours left to join! https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/3y8bfk/giveaway_merry_christmas_citizens_24_hour/
Thanks mate, I'm really not too bothered about squadron 42 it's more the online persistent world I'm bothered about. Think I may treat myself to this with my Christmas money!
Buy a 45 dollar mustang and laugh at people for spending 200 bucks on a jpeg of a ship as you absolutely destroy ships in your smoll mustang.
So for some reason when I'm doing arena commander stuff if I'm using missiles a bunch it suddenly zooms me into my instrument panels and I lose control of my ship. If I hit home to toggle out it puts me right back in. The heck?
Launching the game, I'm a wee bit christmas-tipsy so this may be a a terrible time to try and learn the controls... to infinity and beyond I guess. [editline]26th December 2015[/editline] Holy fuck this game is beautiful, I have no idea where to find my ship but I don't care. Feels like I'm walking around Coruscant, I can tell I'm going fall in love with this game. Is there a way for me to sell death sticks to people?

Visuals on Port Olisar are beautiful, I just stood in the big atrium overlooking the landping pads for a solid few minutes watching things fly Also dunno about you but I become a better pilot when drunk. I'm already fairly damn good, but I feel like Han Solo drunk. Mostly because I'm uninhibited enough to dry stupid shit like Han, and then I somehow manage to get lucky (like Han again?) enough to not crash or die. Last time I flew drunk I had had like 5-6 shots of Watermelon vodka (no homo) and played Rogue System just doing loops and maneuvers and slides around all the structures. Also rogue system is still hella good y'all should give it a look if you like the idea of DCS in space. The main dev guy is a super cool dude too, and an incredibly nice person as well. minor EP7 spoilers :sirens: [sp]I hope we can do stupid shit with jump drives like Han did with the Falcon going to hyperspace out of a docking bay and when he dropped out of Hyperspace right under that shield[/sp]

so im thinking of getting this game to play with a friend, can anyone recommend a cheap hotas to use with this?

However, if you load the 'Crusader' map, it starts you on a space station where you can spawn your ship on one of the station's landing pads and take it for a spin. That said, you may enjoy playing with an Xbox 360 gamepad more, since that lets you aim and fire gimballed weapons (if your ship has any), whereas joystick users keep their weapons fixed.

You get some more metal parts instead of the painted plastic, a programmable MFD (I never look down, so that's useless for me), and the stick has a more tense spring. If you are willing to take the stick apart (if bought used) and mod it, you can basically make the X52 feel close to a Pro with about $10 worth of parts from Home Depot. If someone is first getting into joysticks, the Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X is a good choice. It's cheap as dirt ($34 on Amazon now) and has all the basic features you need. You can operate it as a HOTAS stick or connect the two segments together for an oversized all-in-one stick.
if you happen to have two joysticks lying around you could just use both of them. [editline]26th December 2015[/editline] one for strafing and one for pitch&yaw
if you happen to have two joysticks lying around you could just use both of them. [editline]26th December 2015[/editline] one for strafing and one for pitch&yaw
this is the best way to do it, imo. For a while I had a 3D printed TrackIR rig going, so instead of using the hat switch I had this hooked to strafe controls. It worked pretty well, since strafing doesn't require as fine of granularity in control as orientation does. If you use mouselook it also works pretty okay. Now I have my Force Feedback 2 dinosaur stick as my orientation controller, and an X52 for strafing. Is it still horrible to use a joystick in combat though? Previously the extra control gained from using a joystick instead of mouse and keyboard felt pointless and crippling. I don't have much interest in combat when the full game comes out admittedly, but I would like to fly dropships/troop transports without being dead weight.
:toot: I'm kind of tempted to pick up a T.Flight with my Christmas money. $50 CDN on NewEgg. Sure, it's cheap, but it'll do for now, and then close to/after SC's release I can get a proper quality stick and a video card/whole computer capable of running SC properly. Might also let ED be marginally less boring. :v: [t]https://i.imgur.com/1O7VZGr.jpg[/t] Sometimes the subreddit really delivers.

My next big peripheral purchase is either going to be an Ableton Push 2 or one of those. The clicky switches and the inane complexity is lobbying hard for the Warthog, atm

However when I tried out SC with it back when there was a free week of it, I felt like there were way too many buttons that needed to be mapped then what would be practical for a hotas setup.

However when I tried out SC with it back when there was a free week of it, I felt like there were way too many buttons that needed to be mapped then what would be practical for a hotas setup.
That's going to plague every joystick. Also, the SC actionmapper is terrible, and the default controls are pretty stupid as well. I personally rebound my controls to be much more like X3. WASD controls strafing, Q and E roll, mouse X/Y for yaw/pitch, and mouse4 and mouse5 control throttle because I couldn't be arsed to rebind more controls to be able to put it on Z and X. I still have to reset my throttle controls every time I restart the game because it refuses to save or properly import/export profiles. So every time I play, I need to remember to move throttle from W and S to the mouse or I go flying backwards into the habitation module when landing at Port Olisar.

So an X52 standard throttle+stick cost about $50 each purchased as seperate used items, and you can get something like X52 std throttle plus pro stick for the same price as a new x52 pack. Force feedback 2 sticks are also dirt cheap and super solid old machines. They're still compliant (think they're class compliant) and pretty damn reliable. The feedback is neat, too. When its well implemented its really neat actually, nothing like the stick shaking to the beat of your cannons in IL2: 1946
Just hopped into Universe mode for a bit, my god is it beautiful. The incredible ships coming in to land, people goofing off and EVAing around, the warp effects Was on my way to help a stranded guy but my screen went black (sound still playing). Sucks :( Hope you get picked up soon buddy edit: froze this time, again on my way to pick someone up. Was watching some insane dogfighting at Outpost 730 from a distance and simply turned around to jump back to the main station and that was it. I think i'll stay away from universe until I can make promises that I don't break every time :(
Man trying to use a ship airlock in space is a true miracle. 9/10 times you get your head lodged in the ships hull and you can't get out.
Man trying to use a ship airlock in space is a true miracle. 9/10 times you get your head lodged in the ships hull and you can't get out.
Using any door on a ship is a crapshoot, doubly so if it's cramped. I tried to steal an Avenger at Olisar by jumping up and down repeatedly below the closed entrance ramp. It kinda worked. I got bisected by the ramp. The owner came along and released me and actually let me drive it around anyways. :v: I want tethers so I can load my friends in the back of my 300i, hook them into the ceiling, give them guns, and open up the side doors for drive-bys. STRAIGHT OUTTA TERRA
If anyone can replicate this in 2.1, I saw this happen and I think I understand the repro trigger. And it was surprising and hilarious. Take a Freelancer and park it in place somewhere in space where there's enough room for an Aurora to pull up right behind it. Pull an Aurora (unknown if it works on other ships) right against its ass, metal to metal. Freelancer pilot then gets up and walks to the back and opens the cargo door. Aurora instantly explodes and gets swatted away from the door opening.
Using any door on a ship is a crapshoot, doubly so if it's cramped.
I was messing around in Arena Commander, in EVA outside my Avenger, but when I tried to get back inside, I kept phasing through the floor of the kidnap victim storage chamber and flying into space again. So I went to close the cargo door, the only part of the interior that was solid. As soon as it shuts, without a sound, the cockpit just shears off the front of the stationary ship and floats gently into space. On the bright side, I was able to get into the interior through the new door. [t]http://i.imgur.com/PrF7RFD.jpg[/t]
So conflicted on whether I should buy/exchange my 300i and pay $68 for a Freelancer or not, i mean its a cheap Serenity from Firefly basically. But how usable is it so far?
I dunno. But me and some random dude were flying around, him on my cannon and me in the cockpit just blasting pirates for fun. There is nothing cooler than having a gunner on your back taking care of shit while you work on dodging missiles and shit.

Grats, dude. You've wanted that ship for the longest time.
I was wondering something about this "Insurance thing" When does said insurance start? Does it start during the alpha, or when the game is officially released? I'm just worried that if I crash my ship in alpha/beta/ETC I'm going to lose it for real, which would be a bummer, seeing I'm spending actual money on it. Also, I've been checking two ships as far as game package go : The Mustang The Aurora LN Any recommendation? I suppose I'll be able to get the one or the other when the economy is established, but I have limited funds(Real Dosh) and while I'm all for supporting the development of the game, getting a ship is kind of the reward (As well as the game, but you know). I'm more of a Bounty Hunter/Free Agent kind of guy. My ultimate goal/career (Whenever the game is released) is to be a support/rescue role, as I think that that could be pretty fun in of itself.
Get mustang, upgrading from mustang to LN afterwards is like 5e. [editline]27th December 2015[/editline] Wait why does LN package cost just as much as MR package, when the ships are supposed to be 10e difference in price when upgrading? [editline]27th December 2015[/editline] In that case can i just melt my MR->Mustang upgrade package and buy that LN one now?

Did you get it will LTI? God it looks sexy.
