Where have I heard the name Beer4theBeerGod before? Big time redditor right?
He often did hilarious "uncensored" translations of 10FTC questions and answers. He submitted multiple accepted questions to 10FTC. He is also a Goon and became increasingly bitter and distrustful of the project, and started shitposting on the RSI forums (as well as frequent shitposting on SA) until he was permabanned. The only source for the alleged emails between Beer and CIG (Sandi, Patrick, etc.) is edited/cropped screenshots from Beer, who was perma'd for either atrocious forum behaviour (predictable for Goons) or corporate espionage depending on who you believe.
But that's not the best part. This is.

Only Derek. And he @mentions Lizzy and The Escapist, trying to drag them back into it. :v:

People lose their jobs and/or sued for millions over corporate espionage soooo
Well, wherever they came from, I really don't want the final game to be a game of grinding for the best equipment.
Thinking about Freelancer and basically any game of this type, I'm not sure how to even avoid that at the higher levels.
I thought those emails were a pretty good read, not sure why they would be faked when they actually put CIG in a good light?
[editline]8th January 2016[/editline]
unless beer is a masterful troll and crafted the emails perfectly to be believable enough but also weird enough that derek would eat it up
It's not so much that it's all fake, it's that it might be juuuust faked enough in the right place in one or two of the emails. And, it's Goons.
I've been trying to get:
AMD
VisionTek
Tigerdirect
To give me a mustang but they're not cooperating.
Allegedly they ran out of codes.
I wanted to race a space pagani :(
lmao that entire chain of quotes from the dude that got banned are almost comically common "but I wasn't TECHNICALLY doing anything wrong" asshole-who-got-caught excuses. If you're a gold member I gotta remind you to read the refugee camp from time to time, it's funny how people getting banned for [trolling/flaming/being toxic as a whole] act as if the content of a single post, not the way they were acting and presenting themselves, is completely without sin and therefore bans are unjustified
like if he's actually a great project manager that's fine and all, but it won't matter if he's a complete fuckup with presenting arguments, asking questions, or otherwise communicating with those he's laying accusations on. If his attitude was "SA ironic pessimist" and anything like B4tBG, it ain't gonna be graceful

Wow that is a longass email chain.
The dude went from reasonable to bitchy 1 email later.
I hope y'all fellas start to realize dental smooch is using all his bad publicity to get attention
He's been at this for decades by now, he doesn't care about you, me, his game, chris' game, anything at all really
All he cares about is the moolah and the dough. That's all.
That thread title

start to realize? We know he's doing it for attention, its not like his own products are netting profit.
Since I don't really care about this game anymore, any of you people wanna buy a digital pirate LTI package for $200? :v:

Uh, far be it from me to tell you what to like or care about, but, why the change of heart now? The foundational tech is like 80% there and as of a month or two ago it's been the most "real" it's ever been.
I haven't cared about it in a long time, I just remembered I had that thing collecting dust.
Have you seen any of the new stuff that's come out in the past few months? Like the procedural gen planet demo that's in the thread OP?
I mean, it's all totally up to you, and if this was 6-9 months ago I wouldn't even say anything, but lately they've been making large steps forward. Obviously, if the circumstances are that your life's different in some way now and SC doesn't fit in there anymore, never mind me, priorities are priorities.

2.1.0d has been pushed to PTU.
Patch notes highlights:
- Ships can now only lock/fire 2 missiles simultaneously. The exception is the Origin 325a, which can lock 4 missiles due to the WillsOp Targeting computer.
- Fixed an issue where ships fell on to the landing platforms in Port Olisar rather than land, often taking damage in the process.
- Fixed an issue where it was possible to black out even with G-SAFE enabled, without using boost.
- Fixed an issue where footstep audio was not triggered correctly when the character was running.
- Fixed an issue where picking up a P4-AR would sometimes cause characters to be flung into space. :v:
- Fixed a number of physics grids issues with the Freelancer that would cause players to fall through the floor occasionally.
- Fixed an issue where the Freelancer would sometimes spawn with no landing gear.
- Fixed a performance issue related to AI deaths in Crusader.
- Fixed an issue where the framerate for all clients in Crusader would drop after a player died in combat.
rip Connie missile spam
not that it was actually effective, seeing as the whole 50 missiles could be decoyed by like 2 flares
is it possible to achieve a frame rate higher than 30 in crusader? my system is struggling (780ti + i5 4670k) to get above that. of course it'll be fixed in the future, just wondering if its possible to get a somewhat more playable fps through tweaking now? changing the graphical setting does nothing. I get the same fps on low and very high.
Crusader's performance issues are CPU bottlenecks, right now, due to server inefficiencies. The 'offline PTU' method works if you don't mind playing alone.

sweet, I'll give that a shot. would be fun to try this out at a more playable fps!
I'm also now the proud (and ashamed of my lack of control of impulses) owner of a Constellation

is there a way to tell how many people are playing on a server?
So I cant use my avenger in universe. I clip through the floor and cant pilot it.
So I cant use my avenger in universe. I clip through the floor and cant pilot it.
Known issue, they're working on a fix.
So I cant use my avenger in universe. I clip through the floor and cant pilot it.
Same on my Mustang Alpha.
Unless I crouch and walk backwards, I'll play the ladder animation, then glitch through the hull. Getting out causes the getting in animation, so to get out I have to actively try and warp through the hull.
is there a guide to playing alpha 2.0+? I can dogfight, but there's so many new things I don't know how to do.
is there a way to tell how many people are playing on a server?
Once you're in it, no. If you're at the elevator/universe menu and a friend on your friends list is in an instance, you can see how many players are in it as part of being able to join on them, but you have no options when joining a random instance.

'b' is the default keybind to toggle the Quantum Drive mode HUD. The various QD navigation targets appear, and you travel to them by pointing at them (when there are no obstructions in the way) and clicking mouse3 (by default). You'll zip over there. You can click mouse3 early to drop out early, and you can also engage QD when looking at nothing to make an untargeted jump. You will continue QD'ing to the edge of the map (and your death) if you don't stop early by clicking mouse3 again.
'n' is the landing mode HUD, and it's reasonably self-explanatory once you get close enough to the pad. You target the pad you want using the same targeting keys, and then mouse3 to request landing permission. Your radar display will change to landing assistance and green means good. This is important at Cry-Astro facilities in order to repair, refuel, and rearm - all of which are provided free and automatically for the time being (but not in the long run).
'v' now controls your IFCS mode. When you take off in your ship, you'll be in [PRE] precision mode. When you are below 50% current-max velocity, v will toggle between [PRE] and [SCM] standard combat mode, which is basically Arena Commander mode speed. Above 50% velocity, [PRE] changes to [CRU] cruise mode, and cruise mode extends your top speed by 3-5x but with greatly reduced directional control, since you're basically drag racing.
F9 is your mobiGlas; backspace or the yin-yang-like mobiGlas symbol on the bottom of the projected display to go back in screens. mobiGlas allows you to set missions on your HUD and holds your quest journal. F10 brings up the social augmented reality display that currently is only useful for seeing the names over peoples' heads. F11 is the friends list. F12 is chat. alt+spacebar to undock your mouse to click on the friends list or chat hud elements.
Port Olisar has four identical copies of the landing pad facility everyone respawns in, but everyone always respawns in the same one, and it has ten pads and only two of them are large ones. If you are getting "pad full" messages, especially if trying to spawn a Retaliator or Constellation, leave the airlock and walk off the edge of the pad and EVA over to the next strut and enjoy having practically zero competition for pad space. Yes, people can steal your ship, but you can summon it again and it'll despawn on them.
Ctrl+F gets out of your seat, allowing you to go on EVA. F is still the default interaction key whenever the ugly canilla Cryengine <Use> prompt comes up.
Security Port Kareah is the designated PVP location and you can expect kill-on-sight from anyone there - but occasionally people won't be assholes...or they are and they're trying to trick you.
Explore! I'm not going to spoil it all for you. Two hints to get you started, though. The first is, to start off, get into your ship and Quantum Drive to one of the comm relays - OR Covalex Shipping Hub. The second hint is, entrances are clearly marked, usually with flashing red lights and sometimes other phenomena.
The Vault was updated with Connie Andromeda beauty shots.
So I cant use my avenger in universe. I clip through the floor and cant pilot it.
i figured out the workaround eventually. close the ramp right after you enter and the floor should stay solid.
is there an up to date estimate release thing still? I tried googling it but I just find one that is very outdated on some wiki
whats coming next anyway now that we sort of have the persistent universe?
I did a thing and it's OK.

CIG have learned to stop giving estimated deadlines for when things will be finished, because every time a tentative deadline is passed and missed due to some typical unfolding of ordinary development taking more time than predicted, the community loses their shit and tries to cut off CIG's head. SC will be released when it's ready, not according to a date someone pulled out of their ass months in advance to try and satisfy impatient backers.
Now, Squadron 42 is supposed to come out sometime this year, and given the current state of the game that's a credible possibility. imo the game'll go into beta by the end of this year/early next year, but that'll all depend on just how quickly CIG advance the state of development now that the huge tech drop in 2.0 is out of the oven. That's been one of their biggest tasks for the last 18 months and it's finally coming to fruition, so once they put the biggest performance and stability fires out, a lot of coders are going to have a lot more time to tackle other parts of the design.
As for what's coming next, we have not received an updated timeline in the new year, so it's hard to tell what the current priorities are beyond what we've already been told. This is a solid roadmap for the next 6 months or so for the PU team at CIG Austin (scroll down to "The Future"), but it's also from the summer and things may have changed since then with the focus shift to getting the baby PU out.
Obviously, ships are always in the works and they need to get the baseline versions ready for SQ42 so expect a steady, if uneven, string of ships becoming hangar/flight ready.
The reason everything is up in the air by a bit right now is that, with 2.1, CIG announced a change in how they scheduled patches and determined what's in them. They now want to get at least one major patch out a month, and whatever's ready for the patch goes in, rather than the patch being themed around something (e.g. "the next patch is going to be the fps module... please stand by while we release only minor patches for eight months"). Tony Z's post is written with the old schedule planning in mind, but the content's still in the works.
Shopping, character customization, inventory and its management, initial persistence, and the basics of the economy are at least some of the near-future things, as Chris wants players to be able to earn (temporary, will be wiped) credits from completing Olisar missions and killing pirate NPCs and so on, and be able to buy clothing in Casaba Outlet in Area 18 with those credits, fairly soon.
The Nyx landing zone, Levski, is in the works. There was a great preview of its lighting in the last AtV from last year (linked several pages back in the thread). The other planetary landing zones in Stanton are being worked on but are still a ways out from being playable (Hurston's layout is still being finalized and IIRC it's being built before Crusader and MicroTech).
BTW, if you have a Mustang Omega, it can't be bought back in the buyback tool, and a Turbulent dev confirmed that this is by design - the actual package purchase involved the AMD promo, so without the promo being active and you being eligible, no sale.
someone datamined an updated version of the Xi'an cargo ship, looks like a more polished version of one of the larger blocky cruisers we've seen before. Guess they're keeping the block style instead of redesigning everything to flow like the khartu
