(fly free through Dec 14th, link in OP) What link? I want to try before I buy.
Start here. After you join, you should be able to download the launcher and play. But remember, it's about 30gb download. You'll only get access to build 1.3 right now. You'll have these three ships to try out; Aurora MR, Mustang Alpha, and the Gladius.
The one that looks like this. I made it a bit more obvious. That'll do until I overhaul the OP.
speaking of the date, I'd bet they'll extend it once they get 2.0 launched proper
Almost certainly not, because freeloaders never get priority access to the latest hotness. That's for backers because they paid for it. Free accounts don't get to play AC online, either, because that costs CIG money. I imagine there will be an exception made once 2.0 has been live for a little while, where there's a free week where free accounts get into Port Olisar and get to try the "real" game, but only after backers have had some time with it first.
The Retribution is only 6x longer than that
I hate myself for saying this but "only?" the volume difference is gigantic
I hate myself for saying this but square cube law, the volume is fuckhuge compared to actual CVs
Well assuming it always remains in space, it shouldn't be a problem as long as its acceleration remains low.
I hate myself for saying this but "only?" the volume difference is gigantic
again, it's essentially a mobile city. So was that Enterprise carrier, though that is incredibly compact and efficient for its size. Without the restrictions that come with gravity and dealing with the sea, mass isn't so much an issue. (edit) and given quantum drive technology, it doesn't have to worry about mass too much- it moves the universe around it if it needs to get somewhere in a hurry When I was in San Francisco for Fleet Week, I probably saw as much naval prowess as this thing would equate to, albeit in a string of normal sized ships. I doubt we'd be incapable of manning one of these efficiently, especially as technology removes a lot of finer tasks. Besides, for what it is, it's essentially a super carrier and will be 90% parking garage along the body's 2 big prongs (the other 10% being what looks like a gifucknormous railgun between them*) with the majority of actual military ship functionality being either ship deck personnel or the bridge. The bulk to either side of the bridge is likely to be the functional city zones with offices, barracks, recreation, and other non-military spaces may be *willing to bet that railgun is the purpose of the ship. It's a massive equivalent of an A-10 plane-built-around-a-gun, meant to break a hole in the vanduul's own megaship
I got an account weeks ago and didn't even know about referrals then, oops.
Easy enough to create a new one - if you want to go to the trouble.
New patch! No more errors that should never happen! Fewer disconnects and crashes! (I lasted 30m).
Easy enough to create a new one - if you want to go to the trouble.
I think I will after wrestling with the patcher for over 20 minutes. The account recovery link message keeps coming up and I can't keep coming up with new passwords to set my account to...
I hate myself for saying this but "only?" the volume difference is gigantic
Yeah. The Retribution could easily hold a city within it. When your ship is that large, length becomes a pretty meaningless metric in comparison to volume, because it's going to be as large and weigh about as much as a mountain, and have an interior volume greater than Manhattan.
I think I will after wrestling with the patcher for over 20 minutes. The account recovery link message keeps coming up and I can't keep coming up with new passwords to set my account to...
Are you able to log into the website?
Are you able to log into the website?
No, it just keeps messing anything I try up. I got here late so I think I'll miss this entire free play week.
You got about 4 days left. If you can handle downloading 30 gigs, you should just make a new account to try it out.
I wonder if we will get to patch Z
[t]http://i.imgur.com/4OLdp4S.jpg[/t] AT LAST- [t]http://i.imgur.com/XekoWCC.jpg[/t] ...oh latest PTU patch feels so smooth though [editline]9th December 2015[/editline] lmao the floor of the tali is bugged; you can't actually access the interior cause you just fall to the pad each time
lmao the floor of the tali is bugged; you can't actually access the interior cause you just fall to the pad each time
That's been an issue since day 1. Some ships lose their local physics. You just need to respawn them until you get a working one.
What citizen number is the PTU up to right now, I'm #231937, and I don't have access, is it still 210,000?
[t]http://i.imgur.com/XekoWCC.jpg[/t] ...oh
I recommend heading to strut B for multi crews, less boarders and there's always free pads (Unless everyone starts doing this).
What citizen number is the PTU up to right now, I'm #231937, and I don't have access, is it still 210,000?
As far as I know, it's still 210k
Oh man some guy was trying to land his connie to pick me up and he got stuck in auto pilot. When he finally figured out how to turn it off he went full speed, afterburners and all, straight into one of the rings on the port and tore the front half of the thing clean off. This is going to be a fantastic game
I just got out of an hour-long session that was pretty fucking good on performance to boot. Sure it was only like 20fps the whole time, but on my card that's understandable. More importantly to me was that there weren't tons of hitches and stutters and shit. There were practically none. I spent an hour flying around in a Connie. It was mostly glitch-free until a guy got in and glitched out through the floor, got back in, and then decided to get out and get into the Tali that was being spawned after I left the pad. He took my Connie's roof airlock, bulkhead doors, and local physics grid with him. :v: Also, you can mess with the Connie's shield projection (putting all in the front or something) already in the PTU. Imma try and legit do things in there, now. They're still at 210k but if this stability holds, they'll open it up to more. (Exactly how many is TBA, I would expect at least up to 250k.)
note to self: do not attempt to maneuver 80 meter long ship in close proximity to kareah pads
Seems the client crashes are now the limiting factor. I've played for about 20 minutes in one go before a client crash, which is way better than the 2-5 minutes for a server crash from before. The game still runs like ass, but sometimes it runs a really well in short bursts. It's the CPU that's bottlenecking for me as my GPU rarely even goes above 60%, but my first core is always pegged at 100% with the others varying between 50-80. Still insanely buggy and you can't play for more than 30 seconds without something bugging out, falling through a floor, watching your helmet fly away and getting stranded in space, turning into a T-pose, ships getting stuck in invisible boxes, taking damage from nothing, watching ships spawn with no pilots, sound effects playing at the wrong times, and so on, but stability-wise it's starting to approach "good enough for live." This is probably the best patch the 2.0 PTU has gotten.
If you think about it, now that the game doesn't crash every 5 minutes, now QA/bugsmashers are actually going to get coherent bug reports about all of the other bugs. Now some real progress can be made towards getting it safe enough for live. Why485, are you using the thread-forcing user.cfg I posted here? If not, give it a try, it smoothed out my CPU bottlenecking by a big chunk.
omg this is so good i got people in my turrets+been playing for an hour straight SO COOL [t]http://i.imgur.com/T4ahif1.jpg[/t]
[t]http://i.imgur.com/NDY15Td.jpg[/t] This guy had problems getting into my Connie early in my session. He's the one that took my physics grid with him before I crashed out at the end of the hour.

I get marginally better frames without it, at least that's how it was the last time I used it. The only reason I even used it before was because I would get stutters that would completely lock up my computer every 30 seconds for 10 seconds. That hasn't been the case for the past couple patches. I may as well try it again.
another reminder to self: it's been like a shitton of patches since the arclight could kill glaives
That 2km long ship is fucking insane and I bet no one can crew it without something going wrong every second. Where do I get one
