Star Citizen Megathread - Star Marine isn't doomed after all!

They've promised Linux support so they'll eventually have to do something other than rely on DX12. Mantle support may have been put on hold for Vulkan (which AMD's basically designated the replacement for Mantle), and Vulkan's specs are supposedly complete and in legal review for release anytime now in 2016. The SDKs are still in development.

too bad they haven't fixed the incredible invincible landing gear yet (come on step it up it's been a year and a half)
Star Marine, the game mode, is not out. However, the only things that are 'ready' (or close to ready) for Star Marine that are not also in AC 2.1.1 (and starting from 2.0) are things uniquely specific to Star Marine, namely the Gold Horizon and Ender's-Game-ripoff Astro Arena maps and the scoreboard shit. Oh, and the grapple beam attachment on pistols for the zero-g arena game mode.
You can already "star marine" your own match by going to Security Port Kareah, grabbing a rifle, opening up the chat, and challenging other people to come get you. When you die you respawn at Port Olisar and have to grab a ship, fly back out, and land to rejoin the fight, sure, but that adds to the tactical fun and there might be some fighting in space in order to actually land.

a minature-version of the game is basically out with alot of features not implemented yet.
a little sandbox to fly around in, 2 levels to shoot around in, a racetrack, and a hangar to stare at your ships and walk in them.
every major patch brings in something new tho.
I got a question that's bugging me.
Lately, during dog fights, my ship becomes damaged in the aft thrusters and my ship loses the ability to aquire targets, fire weapons, and primary thrusts.
I fly a SH, and it's happened numerous times. I'm no ace pilot, but I know I'm not terrible either. But somehow the other players manage to do enougg damage to turn my ship into a floating brick. Usually the ship is still in blue stats save for the aft theusters being in yellow.
Does anyone know or have this is issue? Weapons are dead, primary thrust is dead, and I can't aquire targets. Also, it's not overheating. I test it out in VS, and overheating does nothing to my weapons.

A question to ask yourself first is, are you potentially being hit with joker distortion cannons, or even an EMP blast?

Never met a cutlass to fight, and never witness any EMPs. Last I checked, Sucker Punch cannons don't do anything but zap shields. But still, never fought a cutlass yet.

Pirate M50s have them and they will fuck you up. They knock out your weapons, engines, everything incredibly fast. Bricked a vanguard I was flying in 3 shots.

once I get my P-72 I think 2 suckerpunches and 2 NN13's will be quite the ambush setup

I completely disabled and immobilized Korro's Aurora with Suckerpunches on the Avenger Stalker I have out on REC. Distortion damage shuts entire systems down and locks them out of the HUD temporarily.

speaking of-can you fit (as in, drop down the hold and land inside) a P52 into the Connie's hold?

I would assume so, given that's where the P52 used to dock.

Someone fit an M50 in, but I don't think a P-52 can get in.
At least not while Korro's piloting it.
it's too tall to slip through the space the hold currently allows, but I've seen someone wedge into it before. Given it's a connie I'm going to say the rear dock is probably a better place for a P52 :v:

Well, when 2.0 was in PTU, CR said that the Connie's docking bay [I]would work[/I] in 2.1 or 2.2. Now that patch releases are based on what's ready at the time the patch enters feature freeze, it's hard to know when it'll be added exactly, but it should be reasonably soon.
I suspect my issues with playing PU and multiplayer are because of my university network since I've tried all the other fixes to no avail. Could a VPN help if my network was causing issues? I think it might work, but I don't know that much about networks.

I still intend on having one of my characters (after the first couple die) be a gallant highwayman that charmingly holds people up for their ships and gives them Auroras to fly home. :v:
