I'm just gonna quote what I said on another thread.
In terms of a commercial (As in Star Citizen 1.0) release, I'm going to say for the MMO part of the game we're still one or two years away. So I guess that's technically far? I'd say the game right now has less than 5% of the content, features and functionality it will have upon release. There's still a way to go. But all of that should come sooner rather than later, because the most difficult part for CIG is over - modifying CryEngine to support the sort of game Star Citizen is going to be. I daresay that's the thing that they've been slogging through for the last three years.
I still see a lot of challenges ahead. just because of the insane level they keep bringing all their concepts to. like imagine they start working on boarding/docking mechanics "pirate module" - I can see that being another thing that gets delayed for 6 months :v: or the implementation of cargo/grabby hands. or mining. or exploration gameplay...

Well, grabby hands is going to be practically one of the last things they do before they feature freeze for beta (assuming beta means "no new features, bugfix and polish for 1.0") because object interaction touches practically every game mechanic. So, don't hold your breath on that one. CR has said there'll definitely be features that aren't ready by launch, but I would hope mining, exploration, and grabby hands would be -- and yes that does mean that if even the efficient pure-blooded German might of F42 Frankfurt gets cockblocked for months there'll be another round of "this close, guys" week after week for half a year or so.
Guess we'll have to see how much they accomplish this year.
My hope is that the end of March will see the PU performance at least "acceptable" for anyone whose machine legitimately meets minspec and sets an appropriate graphics level (user.cfg shit doesn't count) so that some coders can be moved to developing and debugging new features, because we definitely fucking need them on that if SQ42 is going to launch this year without some fucking bullshit crammed in to fake missing gameplay mechanics that, say, everyone expected last summer would be ready for feature freeze by this summer. And if they do manage to get sane, actually-fun-to-play implementations of the features they say they're prioritizing (working private parties, persistence, shopping and the economy and character customization, the Starfarer's entire fueler meta, distress calls if you're attacked or out of fuel which generate missions for players to come rescue you appropriately, peaceful NPC AI, and putting Nyx into the Crusader map) by, say, end of May? Without taking forever to fix any crippling performance issues that might've happened as a result of adding it all? Haters rekt beyond repair, pls Ralt+backspace. That doesn't seem unreasonable to actually expect CIG to do by late Spring, right? If they were giving firm roadmaps still they'd probably have promised even more than that to us at Christmas. I'd like to see more features as well, but with CIG's new patch schedule methodology it's really hard to predict anything beyond the next patch or two, really, so who knows. We'll see.

Paging AhoyMate and anyone else who had problems with the free fly Try again. If you're having difficulty, here is the direct link to the launcher download, which will let you begin the patching process and pull down the 30GB game client. Because this is pretty unambiguous: [editline]FUCK[/editline] oh god Derek has or is about to find his new chew toy for bashing CIG with for the next six months, space whales help us all [editline]sigh[/editline] Derek's yelling at clouds again; meanwhile he's already backtracked on his Q2 2016 "release date" for LoD which he only announced a couple weeks ago. Aw yeah I'm so gonna download it tonight! Let's just hope that my rig can handle it.
I went ahead and installed a VPN, solved my problem with being sent back to the main menu constantly.

I'm kind of hoping that sometime after the core game is done a Xi'An cruiser is released, and it's just a slightly spikier Reaper.

The damage effects inside the constellation are superb, it's so cool when you come out of a turret after a fight and there are sparks and smoke everywhere. Speaking of turrets, can't wait till they improve the UI for them.

As things stand now if you lose a thruster, it's a fifty-fifty chance whether Cry-Astro will restore it properly.
This week's Vault dump is a gallery of development work on the interiors of the Reliants.
Holy hell, they've got a LOT of room. And this is a starter ship?
At $50 for the base, the Reliant is an "advanced starter ship". A tier-2 starter, as it were. I mean, it's got two seats in the cockpit, it should have more room in it than an Aurora. This also could be promising for the 3xx series since its price point begins around the same level.
Holy hell, they've got a LOT of room. And this is a starter ship?
given people are brushing their hair with the ceiling I'm going to say it's physically close to the avenger in floorspace, but slightly wider for components' sake whereas the avenger is taller for features like the biopods to actually fit along the wall [editline]3rd February 2016[/editline]
This also could be promising for the 3xx series since its price point begins around the same level.
none of them are noted as a hauler of any form though, right? Old 'can carry X units' numberjargon is easy to toss out the window given how much stats have changed on everything else anyways, but having at least some decent personal cargo space (especially for smugglings' sake) is definitely something the 3xx's are supposed to hit
given people are brushing their hair with the ceiling I'm going to say it's physically close to the avenger in floorspace, but slightly wider for components' sake whereas the avenger is taller for features like the biopods to actually fit along the wall
You mean in volume? Maybe. I don't know, it still looks larger overall - Bigger than even the Vanguard's interior.
Not even, the Reliant's interior looks cramped compared to the vanguard. Same amount of "rooms", but smaller. Vanguard has 2 beds, bathroom, console, and a counter top. And there's the turret access. That adds a bit more head room. And the neck between cockpit and bulkhead door is spacious.

Compare this: [t]http://i.imgur.com/yptnRI7.jpg[/t] To this: [t]http://i.imgur.com/szEejU7.jpg[/t] It's not MUCH bigger, but it's certainly bigger. I will give you that the neck is more spacious, but none of that extra space can be walked around in, since it's cut off by a railing.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/8wQxgjJ.png[/t] oh yay, this is going to feel great in first person, i bet! thanks croberts for muh realism and immersion before gameplay!
??
What are you even talking about, Oicani? Like, here's how I understand it. The Reliant's rear area is going to swivel to be in the same position whether the ship's in vertical or horizontal profile mode. Anyone in the back will see the 'neck' to the cockpit reorient itself, but that's it. This hurts gameplay how, exactly?
I think he's saying that the ceiling is too low and will feel bad in first person. Dunno how that ties in with "muh realism" though
Huh. I figure it's not going to be that bad, so long as they don't make the ceiling texture look godawful and give it some proper detail. Willing to bet the dynamic stance system is going to come into play and people will be slightly hunched over while inside, just like in the Mustang Beta. It'll be fine.
you already just kinda duck when you're walking underneath an avenger in the hangar/on a pad, if you want a good feel for how you'll probably walk around the thing. At least it's not the avenger's personal quarters
