Actually, that's a good point. It's one of the few flying aircraft post-WWII with actual armor built in.

Guys, I'm running the game on a 980ti, yet I'm still getting terrible framerate here and there.
Is it really that badly optimized, or there's something up with my pc?

In what mode? And what resolution/graphics preset are you running it at? And is the game installed to SSD or HDD?

Universe, SSD, 1920x1080, tried both High and Very High.
it's very CPU dependent, what's the rest of your build?

i7-4790k @ 4.0 Ghz, not overclocked;
16 gigs of ram.
oh yeah you mentioned universe
It's really badly optimized rn since iirc they haven't fixed everything rendering to everyone at once regardless of location, try arena commander and see if it's any better
i7-4790k @ 4.0 Ghz, not overclocked;

With that setup you should be able to run arena commander very well, your rig only differs from mine using a 970
I haven't been following. Can I play Star Marine yet? I've only seen people running around stations in the PU

star marine contains a lot of content that will expand the overall gameplay mechanics of the game, but is not in our hands yet. There's a basic FPS mechanic testing station ("Kareah") in the persistent universe testground, and you've got choice of your starter pistol or visiting the station to acquire a machine gun.
SM should be actually soonish compared to the soon(tm) this time last year, as they're no longer halting updates on behalf of scheduled landmarks. So, if SM isn't ready to ship, everything else that is gets a patch at the landmark date and they keep pushing everything else forward, which is pretty cool and should keep the crowd happy due to consistent and more frequent development turnaround.
Personally I can't wait for SM to become a thing and people can spawn straight into FPS levels, so there's no more long trip for a short shootout (or getting gunned down before you even enter the station to get a bigger gun), and to alleviate some of that angsty nerd boredom syndrome where the PVP idiots keep hanging out in the shipping hub, gunning down people just trying to explore. But, maybe that won't help, given there's a lot of twats who regularly camp around the repair hub shooting at people coming in, while we've got AC available for more frequent run-and-gun ship play
AC is probably the most fun content you'll get out the game at this moment. It feels pretty fluid for such an early state of the game. FPS Combat is fun if you get a couple of dudes and play a game of "How long can we hold the space station by ourselves", can't wait for star marine. I am hoping for something like a horde mode with it too, like vanduul horde.

I don't know, Arena-style combat doesn't do much for me personally. Give it some context, like in the baby PU, and I'm happy as can be.
I can't wait until the Stanton map gets expanded such that things are positioned all around Crusader instead of just in a blob off to one side of Port Olisar. I also can't wait for the procedural asteroid tech to come online, because from what they described, it'll make Yela look laughably pathetic. (Remember that Yela is as scaled to be as large as made sense with the ~6,000-asteroid budget they had for it in the current tech.)
As long as the release schedule doesn't seize up for six months again this is going to be a great year, and with the changes they've made to scheduling features for patches to maintain a steady pace of releases, I'm confident that they should at least keep the release pace if not a steady amount of player-facing content and quality-of-life improvements. I know better than to rely on that. :v:
re: Star Marine, Foundry 42 Frankfurt was working on a small multiplayer fps test map as of the January report; I wonder if we're talking orange-map-texture dev level, or there was something wrong with Gold Horizon (if true, this would be a smoking gun to the rumours/gossip of a troubled relationship between CIG and Illfonic, but who fucking knows).
If there isn't anything wrong with Gold Horizon itself except for lingering Illfonic-branch integration issues, I'd personally love it if this Gamescom, if Star Marine doesn't have a solid internal timeline for release (that CIG will tell us exists but won't give us the specifics of), the big surprise is the Gold Horizon station being added to an expanded large-world Stanton map (maybe 2mil km cubed), and the option of respawning there instead of in Port Olisar if you're ready to go directly to fps action once you leave the safe extent of your spawn zone. People have asked about this enough times on Reddit/RSI forums that I think it could happen as long as there isn't anything specifically broken about the GH map that's holding SM back. That would leave Citizencon 2016/2946, the anniversary of the Bishop speech, freed up of a main event to launch SQ42 if it's not out already.
Any idea when the next LIVE build goes up? I want to play a bit of Star Citizen again but I don't want to download the game again after 2-3 days.
No PTU this week, so, at the earliest 2.2 live might happen by next Friday if it had a short PTU.
i assume they are working on the larger ships last?
Can't wait to get my redeemer flyable.
Currently priority is kind of leaning on ships needed for Squadron 42 first; you also have a few specific ships being fast-tracked for other reasons, like the Reliant because CR wants there to be three starters in packages.
Before the local physics grid tech came online, there was probably a bit less of an emphasis on the larger ships (not counting secret SQ42 work, like the entire Vanduul fleet) because they couldn't be flown without realism-breaking restrictions like teleporting/long-ass-animation straight to the cockpit chair of a Connie and being permanailed to the seat until you get up and teleport/animate all the way back out. Local physics came online last summer, but they're also only able to work on four ships at the same time and there are 20 ships (plus variants) to make, according to a recent off-the-cuff remark from I think Lando on an RtV.
Good lord star citizen ships are not made for 3D printing. I'm using three different tools to get it to work and just keep cycling back through. Reduce complexity, repair mesh, attempt to solidify and kr make hollow, fail, go back to step 1
Doesn't help that the Sabre us hardly a simple model :v:
if you can get its lowest LOD model maybe it'd work better, otherwise I'd presume creating a lowpoly cage yourself would be the fastest option
if you can get its lowest LOD model maybe it'd work better, otherwise I'd presume creating a lowpoly cage yourself would be the fastest option
The biggest problem is interior geometry, there's tons of random damn greeble on the inside that interferes with my attempts to make it solid. So far, I've simplified the model and repaired it a ton in nettfabb. Now I'm going back to mesh lab to hopefully fix the mesh normals, then hopping into mesh mixer to make a solid with a negative offset difference, the using that to "shell" the master model.

This month's subscriber flair is the Mustang Beta Takuetsu ship model. Now they're just missing the racers and the Mustang display case will be complete (if you were a subscriber when the Alpha and Delta were handed out; if you weren't a sub you only got I think the Alpha).
The package split's happening on the 14th for real, and here's the TL;DR for anyone who's missed when it was mentioned before:
- existing packages purchased before the split can be unmelted and continue to work exactly the same as before
- base price for either SQ42 or the PU after the split is $45, and $15 to add the missing half
- the price for the missing half will probably go up over time between now and launch where, at 1.0 launch, both the PU and SQ42 will be priced as individual AAA titles
- (this means people who bought in with the baseline Aurora MR package before $6mil GET at 18/11/2012 get three AAA-tier games worth roughly $60 each for $20 v:v:v)
And, there is a $5-off discounted MR package for existing backers as a one-last-chance sale before the split.

The Galactic Guide for Horus is up, a frontier system with the Xi'An Empire due to its two jump points into Xi'An space that was off-limits to non-military during the cold war but is now seeing growth and development due to improving relations with the neighbours. It also introduces the mystery of Marie Sante's resting location (did she discover another jump point and claim it as her new home and not repeat the same mistake she did by revealing Horus?).
Any of you been hearing these rumors about Admiral Bishop’s new Kingship killer?
Apparently the Navy have been "secretly" building a new weapon that Bishop is going to use to teach those Vanduul a thing or two. What a waste of credits! Why bother developing new tech when we Humans have already developed the most devastating device known in the galaxy. A weapon so powerful that it leaves whole cities in ruins. That’s right, I am of course talking about Ellroy Cass. All we need to do is have Ellroy party with them for a single weekend and those ’duul will be begging for mercy.
[ Laughter ]
( Vanduul Voice ) No! No more shots! And why does this music keep telling me to "loose my tugger?" What does that even mean!?!?
[ Laughter ]
Can you even imagine a Vanduul doing the tug? It’d be like watching your grandpa trying to be cool, but with slightly more stabbing.
Including already discussing rumours of the UEE's secret Retribution-class superdreadnought. Looks like the UEE can't keep its leaks under control just like CIG. :v:
please stop giving us old cheapo ships for the display case they just don't feel like a subscription tier rewards
So what's new in the PU since I was last able to play in early January
on a 'tangible things you'll probably notice' basis, freelancer and vanguard are up and flyable, a lot more advancement seen for a handful of things like the sabre, reliant, xian scout, and starfarer, lots of hinting that sabre could be flyable soon, starfarer, reliant and scout may hit hangar ready, and reliant may even be flight ready right out of the gates just in the next few weeks. SLIGHT chance starfarer could pull a fast one and be flight ready as well but I doubt it. We're also seeing a lot more teasing for Nyx coming up, armor/loadout updates, one of these days the clothing shop might open, who knows. It's an exciting time to be excited
Mainly the Vanguard and Freelancer, some performance fixes. The price is going up on the 14th because of the package split (read more above). The MISC Reliant and the Xi'An Scout are achingly close to hangar ready/flight ready. The Starfarer, like Winter, is coming.
After 2.1.0 dropped the subsequent patches have been fairly chill on the "amazing new content" side of things and tended towards bugfixes and performance fixes and balance adjustments, but 2.2 is being worked on. 2.1 added a bit extra as well as adding a second ending to the Covalex audiologs mission. [sp]the audiologs incriminate the suspect; if you continue searching the station before turning in the report you find more evidence that exonerates him[/sp]
Patches are now based on a rolling cycle and whatever's ready at the deadline goes in, rather than patches being released when specific features are ready. (That's how we had the barren summer last year where Star Marine was the next Major Patch and so no major visible progress was made to public builds between end of winter and end of August with the ArcCorp release.)
Let's play a game of "variant or paint job" on Sandi's facebook sneak peeks. I'll start.

standard/civ 'touring' model - specialized fighter - kickass racing machine
also a note on what's coming up:
Big things in this patch: hangar ready ship, flyable ship, physicalized EVA, some reputation changes in Crusader, and some other under the hood stuff.
chances are probably flyable sabre, and either reliant or starfarer in the hangar. I'd lean toward reliant, but we've seen both that and starfarer pretty heavily as of late. Farer JUST got a bunch more hype fuel added to the screenshot collection but there's a hell of a lot of stuff that could still need patching up in it before pushing that plus the large hangar, compared to the reliant which has a single tiny room and cockpit that are smaller than just the bridge of the farer
standard/civ 'touring' model - specialized fighter - kickass racing machine
I don't know if you'll be able to fly a Scout through one of those rings in Old Vanderval, not in vertical mode.
The Xi'An really seem to have an affinity for flying vertical bars. The Reliant's flat-to-vertical transformation is crossing the barrier, in a way.
...I bet the Reliant and Xi'An Scout coming through the pipeline at roughly the same time is to take advantage of any overlap when doing vertical-sheet-ship flight model work.
