Star Citizen Megathread - Star Marine isn't doomed after all!

I only drop into the reddit to skim over the hot posts for goofy vids/screenshots and summaries of recent news, getting down to opiniony stuff is risky business just due to how reddit works

A Ship Shape about the Herald is coming soon (but may not be ready for this week's AtV).
I wish he'd just answer those in text, or at least pre-read the questions. He always seems to trip over answers and make a lot of guessy answers as he goes

maybe the reliant will be flyable sooner than expected?
The Star Citizen community needs that thread. The subreddit passed critical mass sometime last year when it reached a point where there was nothing worth reading on it anymore. The subreddit has both become too large for its own good, and a massive circlejerk where it's not worth even trying to discuss anything with those fanboys.
I don't read the subreddit anymore. It's not worth my time to sift through all the garbage to find something interesting. I'm just tired of this whole thing. I hope this game ends up not feeling like a janky, poorly planned, ambitious, but rubbish mess. As time goes on, the more I'm starting to think that's the inevitable fate of Star Citizen. There's just too much bloat, and I know some gets their panties in the biggest bunch ever when you say Star Citizen is bloated, but it is. It really God damn is.
I want to get off Chris Robert's wild ride. I want to be wrong. I want this game to come out in 6 years and actually be good, but I don't think that's realistic to expect anymore. I'm not sure that was ever realistic to expect, especially with what the game has become.
[editline]10th April 2016[/editline]
You want to know my unpopular opinion? I think if CIG were to sell out, it'd be a good thing. I think it would be beneficial to the game for some big publisher to buy out the company and then for Chris to either be reigned in or ragequit the industry once again. Then, for that big publisher to tighten down, start making cuts, start polishing the game, and then release an actual game that's playable and not just a hopes and dreams collection of ill fitting prototypes. It's what happened to Freelancer, and Freelancer ended up being one of my favorite games of all time.
Star Citizen feels more like somebody's science project, an experiment in going against conventional wisdom and doing things people thought were stupid and unrealistic. On one hand I admire that. It's like the most glorified tech demo ever and it's hard to deny the technical accomplishments of CIG, but that's not a game.
Chris Roberts has too much control of the project. He's a George Lucas type. He's a dreamer, and that's important to have, don't get me wrong. You don't get your Wing Commanders, Starlancers, or Freelancers without somebody wanting to make them in the first place. But you can't let him micromanage every aspect of the project or else it'll all get completely out of hand and nothing satisfying will result. He needs somebody to tell him "no", and I fear his cult of personality will forever stunt anything he works on.
On that last note, I think I'm willing to let Star Citizen's niche in my life and my $60 ride on the risk of doing something unconventional, weird, and risky. There are plenty of games out there. I won't post on reddit about how everyone should be like me and back my favorite concept game, but I'm perfectly content with the direction SC is going and the pace is fine. Not objectively fine, but fine in the sense that if this is what they're doing, OK, because again, there are a lot of games out there.
a free flight period starts this friday (April 15th) I think, though the wording of the announcement kinda makes it sound like it's a week from this friday.

same guy seems to be making some cheeky not-hinting-but-still-teasing comments on reddit

If the Starfarer isn't flight-ready in time for 2.4 (but is in 2.5), that'll be understandable; fucker's big and it wouldn't be the first time CIG's underestimated the amount of time needed to get the 'farer to a publicly-announced milestone.
If that means, instead, that the Reliant is flight-ready, oh god yes I am on that like honey on toast. But I'm not letting myself get hyped up over random cryptic-ass Reddit comments.
Vault update and lore post day today, nothing else until tomorrow's Jump Point rerun.
the way they've been talking, starfarer was going to be flight ready before they thought reliant was, and if it was "1 hangar ready and 1 flight ready" announced before, it wouldn't make sense the reliant was planned flight ready as the SF is already in hangar
unless the herald is further along than they let on

If I look at my pledge as a subscription to a wallpaper service that might also create a video game at the end of it, I'm pretty satisfied because I'm set for life with the massive volume of concept art and concept-quality in-engine screenshots.
industrial space frigate aesthetic so gooood
in the meantime-

This week's lorepost is a pop-news talk show segment featuring one of the opponents of the Tevarin candidate in the senatorial race for Elysium IV (Jalan), the former Tevarin homeworld. The segment includes a variation on truth or dare:
[Host]: Before us is a giant wheel with various categories on it. Some are serious, like trade policy, and others are a bit more playful. So we’ll take turns spinning the wheel, and our announcer Christine will ask us a question related to whatever category the wheel lands on. We must either answer that question, or “pass.” But if you “pass,” you have to tell the audience the last search term you typed into your mobiGlas. You ready?
10/10
Also casual mention of the Retribution entering the war fleet. Jeez, things are moving quickly with that bastard.
I wonder how much pandering is supposed to be read into the politician's dialogue, though (lines without an identifier are the host):
… ‘Coffee or tea.’
Announcer: Do you prefer coffee or tea?
Gabrielle Gracián: Neither. I’ll take a cup of raleb over either of those any day.
Raleb, what’s that?
Gabrielle Gracián: A traditional Tevarin drink. It’s made from a plant native to Jalan. If you look hard, you can find it off planet, but it’s not nearly as good. You’ll have to visit Jalan and try some!

Now the important question, does it contain alcohol?
Gabrielle Gracián: Depends on how my day is going.
importantly, everyone who got the "Fooled" title gets $5 store credit next morning (5:40)

rsi got a cool door for their lobby.
Holy shit, I want one.

could that also mean we're getting a benny skin unlocked for those users???
Skins have been $5 items, so users could either get the skin as a reward for the fooled title, or if they don't want the skin they still have that value added to their account

Would we still get the skin if we don't own the ship?
money well spent, just like their expensive desks and lamps
just like the $1,853 DS apparently owns in black market accounts
Would we still get the skin if we don't own the ship?
skins are supposed to be universal across ships, they just show the old ones in the store on auroras since they were the old tests and haven't touched on the system since the way ships were being modeled and textured was changing
like, the pirate skin ("blackbeard"/"Dread Pirate") was advertised to come free with the original cutlass pirate package, but it's still shown on an aurora on its page
[t]http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/starcitizen/images/f/f7/CUTLASS-03-Black-Martin.jpg.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20121118100213[/t]
[t]https://robertsspaceindustries.com/media/1rvljh14p6ao0r/source/Pirate01.jpg[/t]
(the skin is still applicable to auroras in game)
The classic bare metal with swords and teeth design we know cutlasses for is actually the 'false colors' skin, though a lot of those first look videos when the cutlass hit hangar had confused youtubers saying "so this must be the the 'black' pirate skin... it doesn't look very black, might be the lighting though"

By the way, how do I tell if I've received the title?

I don't really see how that is relevant to CIG pissing away money on frivolous things
it's a door, not a goddamn lifesize Connie
tons of other major studios have game-themed decorations laying around and nobody complains about those
if CIG had just gotten an equally-priced ordinary door then nobody would have complained (ok maybe DS would but w/e)
if you wanna talk money I'd be focused more on that extravagant looking couch in the background than a door that could be built in somebody's garage with a dremel (realistically I'm sure somebody has access or connections with some place that does CNC after doing all the woodshop stuff for the mocap studio), plus the appropriate mounting hardware. Just a normal RFID access sliding glass door is expensive for the hardware's sake and not much else
Still, they could be totally operating within budget, and had a bit of wiggleroom by not spending allocated cash on general upkeep/repairs/expansion basic work because it just wasn't there to be spent on. decoration and general employee QOL isn't exactly bottom priority in a business, but that budgeting goes to pretty different things between a game studio and a manufacturing warehouse

picture of couch
also lobbies = initial impression of company for someone who barely knows it.
its basically PR.
instagram and stuff has alot of cool behind the scenes pics
my predictions are:
DS will say it's to cover up their fraud, have sandi obsession.
Elixwhitetail will show the post the day he mentions it.

Despite his prediction to the removal of Toast being absolutely wrong (as Toast was actually promoted), Derek continues on with predictions from faulty sources, and has opted instead to block anyone that makes mention of his Toast-related folley.
An entirely credible source indeed!
I think hezzy is trying to bamboozle us
Blizzard also build a giant orc statue in front of their headquarters,I don't see the big deal.
I don't really see how that is relevant to CIG pissing away money on frivolous things
It wouldn't have been that expensive, employee moral and motivation is an important thing, it gets CIG more exposure, brand recognition (sort of) and it provides a good initial impression of the company. There's nothing bad about it at all. At this point it seems like you're just trying to find whatever you can to complain about.
