I'm not saying a diesel engine makes sense, but for industrial greeble it's a beastly base to start with!

True! Can't deny the engine they have there for the Caterpillar looks badass. And just reactor-like enough to work.
just in time for me to finish a 61 hour 4 day week
then spend 9am to midnight tomorrow out at a wedding
then move my entire apartment before the apartment office closes sunday while all my friends who could help are busy at our annual convention
then overwatch monday after work

yeah I'll just not sleep again that's fine
Oh baby, starfarer crash testing time.
Just got a PTU invite as well. Fine, wasn't planning on sleeping tonight anyway.

No more having to remember to log into the site to make sure your hangar has your ship(s).
Reddit copied the lengthy PTU patch notes, since you have to sign into the PTU version of the RSI site to read them.
Of particular importance:
Crusader Industries has made lockers available in both the EZ Hab rooms and near the Port Olisar airlocks, to allow pilots to change their clothing during long stops.
If a player wishes to change their default civilian clothing, they will need to go to the shops in Port Olisar or ArcCorp and “Equip” items they have purchased.
This is a very temporary implementation until we have a better equipment access system implemented.
Characters now spawn into Port Olisar in their civilian clothing by default.
Characters who exit Port Olisar in civilian clothing rather than a spacesuit will die.
Respawning in Crusader now costs AUEC.
Given how much randos read patch notes, Port Olisar's gonna be a suicide convention for the next day or so. :v:
thankfully they added giant warnings on the door. I watched a poor soul stare at it for a minute before the door opened and he waltzed right in there with his little red baseball cap on

them's missiles right there
though I'm kinda annoyed at how they advertised the Gemini as an Aegis conversion when it's... kinda not
the missile extravaganza with the gemini is quite a sight
also jesus I'm stumbling over the updated controls
They fucked gamepad controls. Broke them entirely, I'm livid.
Get this. You can now either choose to aim your gimballed weapons, or steer your ship.
You can no longer do both at the same time.
Such a tiny thing, seemingly, but enough to entirely ruin 2.4 for me.
G fucking G.
They did say they wanted the default controls to be tested this time around.
Luckily I found that I could switch my gamepad back to legacy settings. The day is saved.
I am not okay with this new layout. I'm rebinding spacebar back to spacebrake, it's killed me once already and rebinding "OMFG PLEASE SHIP STOP" from the biggest key on the keyboard to X is incredibly unkind to my muscle memory. I'm trying not to rebind the keys so I can give feedback, but I'm too wired for "spacebar means panic stop" still.
I'm really struggling to deal with roll and yaw-strafe being reversed on keyboard too.
But that can be feedback for CIG, I suppose.
On the other hand, even though it's really not clear what a given itemport does (and some simply have no active use yet), I'm liking the new item port interaction system and the ability to customize my hangar. It's the stupidest thing but I'm finding myself loving being able to choose where I want my trophy case and artifact replica collection.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/sBq12Lz.jpg[/t]
A hilarious bug surprised me while I was messing with customizing my hangar. A poster fell off the wall as a physical object. I wish I had video going because it was so unexpected it became hilarious, and I don't know if I'll see it happen again. Just, CLUNK, fell off after a very brief delay after spawning.

The number of itemport dots in the trophy case makes me inappropriately happy:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/jhafio3.jpg[/t]
But there's a small problem: The trophy case, or at least the models in it, spawn facing the railing and outwards into open space. I spawned the Citizencon 2015 trophy in and thought it wasn't fully loaded for a second, since it just had a gray back. Wedged myself between the trophy case and the railing, sure enough, I was just looking at the other side. :v:

The additions to Port Olisar are cool, if basic. I like the extended little socializing areas, and I hope we just see more and more of those as more of Olisar's internal structure is developed and it becomes like a real space station as described in the lore, rather than this odd place with incredibly slobbish clones who until recently were not permitted clothing and always wore EVA suits even to bed.

Danger, space skeletons at war outside.

This is how I found my K-A when I came out to get in. Me getting in and trying to get away flung the Sabre into space. Oops, sorry bro.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/IVtCpe5.jpg[/t]
Crusader's still huge or close, but it seems to have had its colours muted.
I fell through the gaps in the walkway outside Olisar's airlocks and got stuck until I figured out how to get out from the underside of the station pads and to freedom. Also pictured, my head and neck refusing to enter the walkway's local physics grid from below.

Possibly the funniest bug I've experienced in Star Citizen yet (a close second would be crawling right through the airlock doors and scaring people):
[t]http://i.imgur.com/iZHq03c.jpg[/t]
My head is in the ceiling while attempting to maintain attachment to my body. This happened after I respawned, and I was able to walk out of my room and down the hallway, looking down at myself in a pseudo-topdown view with a void in my neck. Toggling into third-person and back put my head back where it was supposed to be, and I was kind of disappointed because I wanted to try and walk around Olisar like that and see if other people saw it.

I've waited for this moment since I paid for the concept.
Naturally the first thing I did was find a clipping bug that spent several minutes jigglebouncing me around in the ceiling of the cargo hold until I finally turned around and it flung me out a good ways.

Not sure I'm a fan of the way helmets are perfectly rigid on player's heads now from the inside, no sway or jiggle whatsoever. Feels less immersive by far than previous builds. But I like almost everything else.
I've been busy recently so my friends and I haven't been able to keep as up to date on the new additions since 2.2 dropped. I remember having some difficulties with the party system.
Have they addressed that yet, making it easier to both of us to get into the same server? With what looks like more social modules added in 2.4, can we visit each other's hangers yet or that's on the backburner in light of more important refinement? Also, is the tutorial fixed?
I'll be looking into 2.4 myself when I get a chance later today, but if I can get a quick and dirty refresher on what's new and changed I'd appreciate it.
Did they made A and D the default for strafe now instead of whatever it was before? Making those keys strafe was alway the first thing I did every new version of the game. It comes from muscle memory of Freelancer plus every FPS ever.
Roll in Star Citizen isn't important enough to break that convention.
They also made Left Control and Space strafe down and up, respectively. I love that.
no idea what I'm even doing

It's Arma 3 all over again

Tutorial probably not fixed but it can't be tested in 2.4 since AC is disabled in the current PTU (at least that's what the patch notes say, haven't smacked my face into the wall trying anyway).
Visiting other hangars is still not in. It's still just Olisar and Area 18, but they now have the stores working.
The party system is kinda okay now, and whenever I've tried I've been able to get into the same instance with other people on a mostly reliable basis. Matchmaking will still shit the bed sometimes, but usually that's only if someone suffers a loading failure (like an authentication fail error) when trying to get in. If everyone's able to load into the instance properly, the party matchmaking will put them all together at least 90% of the time, I haven't actually witnessed any errors that weren't caused by something going wrong on the Mustang loading screen for someone.

A/D and Q/E swapped positions and it's fucking up my Arena Commander muscle memory severely. It's so simple a change and that's what's so devious.
fps/eva controls are typical WASD with Q/E roll, and it always throws me off that the pre-2.4 layout had ships roll on A/D and EVA roll on Q/E so unifying these makes sense, but I still have spent the last year and a half flying ships that way and adapting is a struggle.

For anyone that hasn't seen it, people on Reddit transported a P-52 Merlin inside a Starfarer, including Quantum travel, and it worked.
I missed AtV today, so I'll have to watch it/skim the transcripts later, but I bet there'll be some good stuff about 2.4 in there. I hope. Now that Ben's back it might just be awkward puns and banter as usual.

That is pretty damn awesome, think they could fit more than one for a pocket-carrier?
cool once again im not in the PTU :ok:
That is pretty damn awesome, think they could fit more than one for a pocket-carrier?
most definitely, especially if you arranged them parallel to the SF
we'd most likely need manual gear control for the wing folding though
Some Starfarer pilot attacked Kareah and blew all ships to pieces. But I managed to get on board, shoot the pilot and steal his ship.
Once people start grouping up with those ships, battling to take over them will be interesting.

I'm looking forward to my Gemini all the more now, especially given those missiles.
it's honestly a very bleh variation if that's all that they're going with (which I really hope they aren't); it's basically a reskinned regular Starfarer (also losing the space-themed sleeping apparatus thermal enhancement and body concealment device :saddowns:) with the missile pod instead of the fuel scoop right now
Me, Korro, and Khorn are in PTU together right now, and we were in an instance taking a SF Gemini out to Yela to salvage a wreck. I was piloting, and Khorn and Korro went out into EVA before I got out of the ship. A Vanguard flew in while I was making my way to the ramp and so I ran back to the bridge.
I stood in the bridge without getting at the controls, and I watched him start to shoot at the EVAs. I got into the pilot's seat and turned the Starfarer at him and made something on his ass explode by shooting at him. He didn't expect that and zoomed off, but he turned around to fight. Without gunners, the Starfarer's not a very good fighter against an agile attacker, and he crippled me to where the Starfarer was doing 12m/s when I was requesting 100% cruise throttle, with >1000 seconds to cruise max. My game crashed before he blew the Starfarer up.

A buggy crash led to me and Korro having an out-of-body experience, possibly merged with each other because we were experiencing the same drifting camera movement up to the ceiling inside this building.

I jumped out of the window from the second-floor landing in Olisar and this happened.

On Khorn's screen he was looking at my crotch. I was seeing things eye to eye. CIG what are you trying to say about me

Abu Hajaar, we must retreat!
Note to people on PTU, don't use any of the armors.
You lose your EVA ability.
