have fun
I got the vibe most of these were from older adventures after I saw the Tomb of Horrors appear in just about every world I genned.
Fun fact though a friend of mine has a huge collection of AD&D books including stuff like the Temple of Elemental Evil and the Tomb of Horrors. I'd say I could take a crack at converting some of it, but I'm woefully underqualified for that sort of thing tbh.
Might as well count that as having killed the Bard.
If it's just the testes that are gone the Bard's only become stronger.
Our female fighter made the male bard sterile after she rolled a 1 on her attack against the enemy in front of her and her weapon went swinging back into the testes of the bard behind her.
i had a similar experience. our party was fighting this big rat monk that spoke and knew kung fu, TMNT style. the rat man was directly between my characters legs, where he rolled a crit punched me in the balls, knocking me unconscious and causing a permanent injury. for the next few sessions, i went around asking travelling and local clerics if the knew anything that could "restore my manhood".
it was a really harsh punishment for just being in the wrong place. DMs shouldn't really pull stuff like that, especially when it's something out of the player's control. the rest of the party will mock you, as well.
i feel a similar thing about my dm, though rather than it being about the rolls he ignores the roll completely, sometimes it's better to just fail the roll
i love my dm and all, but he doesn't have to make literally every good thing we do end up bad, or that we fumbled up our words despite having an extremely high diplomacy end up being a monkey's paw wish, our character =/= us when it comes to talking or planning or etc, my character is a lot more wellspoken than i could ever be like come on, because i messed up doesn't mean my character messed up, it's like im being punished for not being as awesome as a fantasy character
like if i incite a uprising against a corrupt government, everyone shouldn't immediately become degenerates the second i succeed by a huge margin wtf? why do i get punished for doing the right thing in a fantasy society
Sounds like your GMs are trying too hard to make the "choices are hard, guys!" thing work properly.
An appropriate way to make taking over the once-corrupt government mean something more than "now you have a shit ton of political power" is to present new threats in scale to your new position. Bureaucratic problems, rebellions formed from those who had the system working for them, hostile nations and stuff like that. Not to just make the city turn to shit immediately.

agreed 100%.
like if i incite a uprising against a corrupt government [...] why do i get punished for doing the right thing in a fantasy society
that was a bad example in my opinion. someone else in this thread had already mentioned how their party killed a corrupt king and how it was wonderful etc etc etc.
corrupt kings are twisted and rotten, yes. but they're most likely very smart as well. they calculate their every move. they're evil, yet they have the support of many powerful figures in order to be in the position they're in. they know who to please and they're careful.
what you see as "right" isn't exactly "right" to the eyes of a medieval society. as Alsojames said, if you make an uprising in a medieval society other kingdoms should immediately fear you and see you as a threat. you will receive backlash from the populace who supported their previous leader, etc. it will and should be tough, my man.
i will take a little detour now and say something i believe that players often forget when roleplaying their character.
it should be common for medieval fantasy characters to see ideas that we, 21st century humans, take for granted are "bad", as commonplace.
take slavery, for example. it's something your character might not agree with, but they wouldn't really give their heart out and fight an entire kingdom that relies on slavery as a pillar for their economy because they're like "yeah, slavery is bad" (unless, of course, your background suggests you hate slavery and when you reach higher levels (10+) you have it in you to start a rebellion, etc).
in the end, i don't agree about your DM being a dick and pushing things way too hard. as you said, you (the player) do not have to as badass as your fantasy character. it's the job of the DM to empower you.
but i do agree that big choices should have big implications, no matter what.
Great time to introduce the artifact "Testicles of Vecna."
Alright, I wrote this up because kept thinking of how funny it was, and I like the idea of this being an item.
Testicles of Vecna
In order to function, the Testicles of Vecna must be implanted and sewn into a character's empty scrotum. The bearer of the Testicles loses 2-points of Constitution that may never be regained. Removal of the testicles thereafter always results in the death of the host.
They grant the host immunity to poison and disease (including magical disease) and DR 5/-.
Three times per day each, the host can use the spells contagion and black tentacles.
Once per day, the bearer of the Testicles can conjure up clone and create undead.
A nonevil character must make a DC 17 Will save each week to avoid becoming evil. All powers are at caster level 20th, and all DCs to resist their effects are 20.
A character with both the Hand and Eye of Vecna gains the same bonuses and penalties from having those artifacts.

"i can't understand these small runes. could you use Tongues on my Testicles"
Sometimes, DM'ing for newbies means they'll just follow everything that's laid out. Other times...
The party (a druid, a barbarian and a paladin) was recruited to run protection at a feast the next town over. Going down to the town's harbor, they decided to buy a boat from Honest Bob. It looked like it had never even seen better days but Honest Bob assured them it would get them to the town. Sailing down the river (and fishing up a magic boot and a non-magic crab later), the harbor was in sight when the ship started to sink. Because of bad rolls, everyone fell into the water. The druid decided to wild shape into a giant seahorse and took the other two on his back, getting them to safety.
After arriving at the town the day before the feast, they decided to hit an inn and have fun. They'd barely set foot before one of them joined a bar brawl. Being bored and having nothing to do, they sought out a drug dealer who refused to sell them crushed owlsbane after the druid said he was planning to feed it to some bears, instead selling them some devilweed. Deciding to mix things up a little, I threw some constitution checks to see how they'd react. Seeing as the highest of them all was a 5, they got nauseous and paranoid, convinced that a half-orc in the inn was out to get them and the barbarian threw a javelin at him. They eventually realized that the half-orc was really a particularly menacing deer head on the wall before passing out and waking up the next morning hung over as hell before continuing along the main plot.
With the exception of them being recruited for security, none of this was in the original script. It was amazing.
Context: I'm running Curse of Strahd for a group at the moment on Roll20 and we just finished Death House.
The part I'm actually enjoying the most how we're using Watch2Gether to sync music between everyone. I'm also currently trying to make them fear violins whenever Strahd turns up to mock them, it's SO GOOD hearing the party go "Oh SHIT." when they hear a certain song. :v: - Case in point, Strahds theme.

The world needs more Kaiki.
That intro is pmuch the same as a track in luigis mansion :v:
I'm glad you're getting the party actually scared in CoS. Trouble I have with 5e is the mechanics make the game pretty damn unscary since it's so fucking hard to die at all unless you BADLY fuck up, get horribly outnumbered, or fight something WAY out of your weight class. It's not a patch on I6, and REALLY not a match for 2e's Strahd. It's deffo better than the godawful 3e Castle Ravenloft, though.
I've never played 2e, played a bit of 3.5 and 3rd, but I actually really enjoy 5th. I'm trying my best to make the game super atmospheric, i've got playlists for the following:
Exploration - Calm
Exploration - Spooky
Exploration - Eerie
Combat Lite (like for wolves n bandits n stuff)
Combat Spooky (for supernatural shit like vampires)
Combat OH FUCK (for stuff that is supposed to be super terrifying)
Reunited (Which I use for the nicer aspects of strahd, like families being brought back together, maybe it'll come up idk)
A Flame Burns Out (Character deaths)
TRIUMPH (When the party does something incredible)
Strahds Theme
And the Recap for the start of every session, which is actually my 2nd Favourite:

It's mostly stuff like Pillars of Eternity, Neverwinter nights for all of the light stuff, when it gets more dramatic and supernatural it goes into Darkest Dungeon and when it's something terrifying it goes into Bloodborne. :v:

How so?
If youre GMing your game like a tricky genie, youre not a good GM.
Today, in Ars Magica:
The Covenant hears of a few matters which a Magus's presence could be helpful in; a sword has been stolen from a local Baron, the nearest city's mayor has been kidnapped(maybe by Faeries?), and a nearby town has reported signs of potential Infernal presence. They decide to send Victoria(a house Guernicus maga), Acel(a goblin-blooded shapeshifting lycanthrope with the curse of venus), and Mathys(a former soldier) to check on the stolen sword. They had to Brenneville, the town that the Baron owns, and look around his manor. After a few hours of working on a tracking spell, Victoria figures out that the thief, a man named Cumbersnatch, is in Rouen, the nearest city(and capital of the county). They head there, and purchase a map of the city, so Victoria can cast the same spell and focus their search area down a bit; she takes a wild guess and starts the search at the castle, and turns out to be right, so they head there. The guards inside are all clearly anxious, but they put that up to Victoria having the Gift, and try to see if Cumbersnatch might be in the Keep; the guard stonewalls them, so they head to the great hall, which is empty. From there, they enter what seems to be an apartment, and Acel sneaks upstairs to investigate a door that's been left ajar. Inside, he finds Cumbersnatch threatening a tied-up man with the sword they're looking for, and goes back downstairs to inform the rest of the group.
It's been a foggy, overcast month. A few weeks ago the villagers noticed several instances of it raining blood into parts of town and what sounded like distant cries for help. Several of the strongest men were sent to climb the steeple of the church to investigate and found an exact mirror of their village beyond the low clouds. They could clearly make out several pools of dried blood on the roads above them alongside decorations set up for next weeks spring festival.
What caused this? I've been kicking around this idea for a while but could never think of any satisfying follow up. Is there something in the town above, or is it merely a warning?
[editline]20th July 2017[/editline]
Maybe it ends up being the villagers turning on themselves and the newly arrived party, fearing a fate that they themselves end up fulfilling?

In 2E, there are serious consequences for taking on A powerful undead and B gods and C places infused by gods directly, and Ravenloft is all of those put together.
The entire 2E technical intro past the flavor texts is basically "this realm will fuck your shit, you should bring disposable one shot or concept characters, no seriously, we mean it, your characters are going to die here and by die we mean all of them even the glowy ethereal parts"
3e limited the amount of fuckeration your players could do to themselves but then made a lot of other things arbitrary to avoid players trying to RP or shenanigans their way out of the plane's inherent rules, and that includes locations, and what locations can do/be.
So I started to get into DMing GURPS.
One of my players asked for more points at character creation.
As a response, I made this:

Hm, what would be good ways to use this poisons secondary use?

Putting it on the weapons of an important enemy before a battle/duel would be pretty sick, or inside any of their clothing/armor. Could also coat the reins of someone's horse with it, which would have the added benefit of making them possibly fall off the horse and appear as if they had really hurt themselves. So if they survive the fall it's easy to finish them off through more poison or negligent medical care.
Started working on my own all-in-one dice box at my mom's house at 5 in the morning lol

Went out and bought better materials and more stuff to make it more compete. Will post updated version later tonight.

Combine poison with glue.
thats what i was thinking, but i think he is on the right track

You don't hold the toilet seat for a minute. It's specifically holding or wearing, not simply touching.
You don't hold the toilet seat for a minute. It's specifically holding or wearing, not simply touching.
i suppose so, but that is oddly specific and makes no sense to me at least for long term touching.
