Opinions on GURPS?
Despite being a "generic" system, it does not work equally well with all types of games. It excels at fairly low powered games with a slice of realism, but for more high powered games it often requires a lot of close supervision and sometimes houserules to not fall apart very quickly.
If you want to do something like a low fantasy or sword and sorcery type game, it works very well for that. Same goes for mostly down to earth historical/modern/near future sci-fi games.
I know nothing of fantasy RPGs besides hearsay on /tg/ and a few one-shot experiences, so I'm not terribly familiar with homebrew efforts, but has anyone done like a Glienor sourcebook or anything?
I know translating gameplay would be hell but I feel like you could set up some fun RPG shenanigans in the world of Runescape :v:
Haven't seen any around but with some minor knowledge of the game and a few days of browsing the wiki it can't be too hard to get a write-up going
I named my rangers dog after the rogue and it's great
ugh, my game tonight got cancelled and the saturday game for this week and the next are cancelled as well. Pretty disappointed, cause last saturday's game was cancelled as well. I really enjoy D&D, and its a real bummer the bigger games had to be cancelled. This saturday we were gonna see about reworking some stuff. I understand why they had to be called off, but that of course doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.
Tonight in Shadowrun
my decker gets a gang tattoo (in flashing LEDs) and has NOTHING BUT FIRE for dice
I think I only had two rolls that were below average the whole night, and even those were still good rolls, alongside a steady stream of 6-8 successes's on 13-16 dice rolls
This week in Shadowrun, the chip head I'm helping out tries to cut her face off, reminding me that I don't own a medkit, Sib blackmails some Aztech exec for a fair chunk of money, and a police officer gets hammered and asks us to kill a Russian mobster that gets his jollies from live streaming snuff.

Oh yea there was that too
even on sessions where we don't do jobs I somehow find a way to do half a dozen morally questionable things
it's really strange being the most morally flexible member of the party while also having 0 combat capability whatsoever (outside of my ever-more-pimped out waifu drone, whom now has a ton more armor, upgraded agility and thus gunnery abilities, and her integral shotgun now has explosive rounds)
A friend of mine shared this with me, if you guys in fantasy games need music for Roll20 this guy has some great stuff: https://soundcloud.com/alexjnewman92
Might have already been posted but if not, http://tabletopaudio.com/ has been making waves lately as a free alternative to Syrinscape, if anyone is interested in that kind of thing. The real-time soundpad broadcasting is the real winning feature.
It's not nearly as robust or comprehensive as Syrin, but it's new to the scene and done in a guys spare time for free so that's to be expected.
hey hey
if anyone remembers, I released the system I made for my final year of university a couple months ago (I got an A for it :toot:) and now I'm free from deadlines and have a nice chill job I want to sit down and revisit it completely.
I still have all the feedback elo gave me and it's a long-ass document so I don't expect anything in-depth, but if people could have a brief scan over it and tell me what they think works/what doesn't that'd be great. I already have some core changes planned and ideas on how I'm going to tackle stuff, but there's also a good amount of stuff I want to keep and it'd be helpful to see if anyone else thinks the same things are worth holding onto.
in other news I really miss my 7 wisdom wizard, that game was super fun and I was so attached to Patricia
I've got a bunch of ideas for characters but I'm pretty sure the next char I'm gonna be is a bard 'poet' whose inspiration, vicious mockery, and healing word spells are all just rap verses. I wanted to do this with a Dragonborn Bard nicknamed 'Drake' but I didn't have time to memorize anything.

In D&D Today: We find out that Elves are immune to sleep (so me putting Drow to sleep last game shouldn't have happened), find an ally in an uncharismatic short Druid, get beaten up up by 7 Kobolds and 4 Cultists (because Dragon Queen is balanced for 6 players not 3), get captured after getting 2 shot twice (specifically including Drow going down after a single rock falls down), and then I put more Kobolds to sleep to get our stuff back.
Why the fuck do Kobolds get +4 to hit, when average level 1 party AC is 13?

because that average is taking the dumb wizards with the no armor into account and they ideally shouldn't be in a position to get attacked in the first place

They also get pack tactics which is nutso bullshit advantage on effectively every attack they will ever make. That campaign and it's sequel are trash, honestly. Terribly balanced, railroady as hell, and boring as fuck.

But we only have 1 guys with AC higher than that - Druid at 14.

There is also the fact that kobold's bonuses to hit also translate to commensurate penalties to damage because of their abysmal strength
Besides, hitting on average half the time isn't THAT unreasonable for the early game, because otherwise it's just nothing but luck and that's generally boring and lame and unfun
Your party being massively understrength definitely doesn't help, though.

If anyone in a 5e party is below 15 ac you're doing something very wrong.

Rogue, Bard, Druid. Level 1. Using Class/Background item choices rather than gold buy. No Feats. Truly, we know what we're doing.
Today on DnD our Paladin goes into the ocean to test his re-enchanted sword that allows water breathing, only to forget that I gave him two swan boat feather tokens :ohno:
Their was much screaming and agony as two boat hulls crushed him almost to death.
Oh and then later a shark hurtling towards him nat 20'd and almost kills him again D:

I think that would give anyone a fear of the ocean.
Are phobias a thing in dnd? I feel it could make a character more relatable but I'm unsure if it could be implemented in the game. Maybe as a disadvantage roll when dealing with with said thing?

Well there's your problem.
You have literally no frontliners. You'll get fucking stomped in a straight up fight.
should also note that no feats is the standard in 5e, they're an optional rule
Why the fuck do Kobolds get +4 to hit, when average level 1 party AC is 13?
Because average level 1 party AC is not 13
By class (assuming dex characters have 16 dex and non-dex characters have 12 dex, in reality they can have more but may choose not to for character reasons):
Barbarian: 15, 17 with shield
Bard: 12 (14 if they decide to get 16 dex)
Cleric: 16, 18 with shield for heavy armor domains; otherwise 15, 17 with shield
Druid: 12, 14 with shield
Fighter: 16, 18 with shield
Monk: 15
Paladin: 16, 18 with shield
Ranger: 16, 18 with shield
Rogue: 14
Sorcerer: 14 (mage armor or draconic resilience)
Warlock: 12 (14 if they decide to get 16 dex)
Wizard: 14 (mage armor)
As an aside average level 1 party to hit/save DC should be +5/DC 13, as well. All of this is based on array (which I think is the superior way to run 5e).
should also note that no feats is the standard in 5e, they're an optional rule
And even if you did use them, you can't take them until 4th level at the expense of not getting your attribute boost. Which is lame.

You can if you don't use the fuck awful base human, and use the 'alternative' one that is included directly under it that actually makes humans a really good race. Like really, there's no contest between the two types of humans and it genuinely confuses me why they chose the awful one as the base one.

because feats are optional
like it says right in the alternative one

Even then, the bonus skill and +1 to two attributes is probably better than having an additional +1 to your 4 other attributes. For the majority of classes anyways.
And what lamer doesn't want to use feats anyways.
