Did they walk in and try to lecture to the priest about the sphere of influence?
No, just asking the priests of war about their understanding of war.
clearly they are imposters, infiltrators from another church
alright i just got a good idea for my only war campaign, but i want to keep it written down and open to you guys' opinions
so the mission will start off with them having to exfil from their own campaign against whatever they're fighting, be it when they've accomplished their task or in a cease in the fighting. they'll be informed that they are a part of the closest military forces to a very crucial planet falling under heretical and traitorous influences, but beyond that high command knows nothing else. this will explain why there isn't much to a victorious celebration.
when they get there, they'll sight numerous battleships in orbit of a hive/mechanicus world, however they won't be assaulting the planet itself. when they deploy, it will be eerily quiet as they search through ruins. nothing will be going wrong, and intended to freak them the hell out.
when the traitors do strike, they'll be fighting with heretical innovations in technology. they'll be basically using unstable, mini-versions of sonic weapons, used by lightly clothed and agile cultists with jester masks on them. all the while, music rises to a deafening level on nearby announcement systems, negating their ability to be aware by sound. the weapons, while not exactly to the level of Noise Marines, will hurt anyone who doesn't have proper ear protection. along with that, a few cultists will bear grenades / weapons that will corrode their armour if they are hit, rendering them unusable over time. they'll be fighting in tight corridors and hallways custom to hive worlds, with the occasional broken down area that they will have to go through if they wanna make it out quickly.
i feel like this'll be good for some of the more close-ranged chars to test their wits, along with the damage resistance heavy characters. this is a really basic premise i have thus far and i hope for a few people to help me out on this idea.
So I know a lot of people play Shadowrun around here but does anyone play Cyberpunk 2020? I'm thinking of picking up the book and was wondering if there was anything else I'd need besides the core rule book.

cp2020 is gr8 dont let anyone tell you otherwise
CP2020 is like when you have a craving for chocolate but the only chocolate you have is a couple decades old and disgusting, it's awful but it's the closest you'll get to a pure cyberpunk game you can actually find players for
Everything else is either even more worse, some obscure and/or indie game no one has heard of, or a supplement for an universal system.

Don't forget morals

Well of course, getting rid of those useless things is a wizard prerequisite
Cyberpunk 2020 is like an 80s action movie. Cheesy yes, and if you really start reading into things a lot you'll start to see flaws, but it's still very much enjoyable.

It's like an 80s action movie where you're literally forced to start reading into it. Because it's a book.
Elowin is just upset that anyone would enjoy anything without wizards in it and it's making him cranky

I'll have you know I've played non-wizards once or twice you young whippersnapper!

I mean, to be fair, he isn't exactly wrong.
CP2020 is the rare pure cyberpunk game, but it shows its age in every fucking sentence having anything to do with the actual cyberpunk part of the setting.
It's not a bad game, but it's not really a great one either.
Isn't there going to be a new edition or like a setting update when the CD Proyeckt game comes out?
Don't forget to buy a cellphone and a modem as well as that laptop if you want to get online and send electronic mail with it.
[editline]20th September 2016[/editline]
And don't forget to get some cassettes for that camcorder, they're pretty good though, they can hold a whole two hours of video.
It's a really dated game, but it adds to the charm and uniqueness, I'd say. Using CP2020 for more light hearted cheesy campaigns seems like the best way to use it.

This actually reminds me that I should probably dump Hexographer and swap it with that. Half of the reason why my setting work is on hiatus is because I absolutely hate that outdated, Java-based turtle crawl of a trainwreck.

this is part of a pack of illustrations i'll be doing for a facepuncher for his really really cool project. ~secret cool shit~

Considering it's based directly off Gibson's work, I'm not sure why you'd say that?

Because there are people who can't handle scifi that can't keep up with the times, mostly
It's just so difficult to accept that we might be using VHS tapes while we blast aliens in the scifi future
and I'm aware that argument is shit, but the impression I get from a lot of talk about CP2020 is generally that if you're down with the aesthetic everything else doesn't matter so much, and if you're not then you're not, and there's not much to be done in that respect
Personally I'm all down for it, but I'm also the damned fool who keeps wanting to try to run a game in the Aliens universe so I'm in the first camp kind of by default

Considering the 'new' version of Mekton we're promised Zero, has been like 3 years since the kickstarter and any meaningful updates, the official website was shut down, and what they did promise was basically just Mekton Zeta with the customization removed. That's not necessarily a good thing, if R Talsorian Games makes a new edition.
Hell you can argue that Appy/Smas/Me have done more (especially Appy) for the community in the last few years than the developers themselves have with our homebrewing, fully mathed out sheets, and introducing it to anyone who'll fucking listen :v:
Reminder, these are the people who fucked up the publication of the Gundam Mekton rulebook, which was already done, by refusing to pay their translator.
read this:
since last game, the party's wizard (who was a gnome illusionist) died. so the player made a new wizard. this one's an evocation wizard who looks like pierce brosnan with that beard/stache combo.
in between games, i wrote up this super intricate enchanting system for our wizard: basically a really well done homebrew for 5e for enchanting items, creating magical items, etc. the number of days it takes to make an item is given by doing a few equations, and one of these equations' multiplier is the DC of the item you're trying to enchant. the wizard noticed that simple items had a DC of like 8 (which is the lowest DC), so he decided to enchant a pan
...so he decided to enchant a pan...
...a frying pan.
he bought a pan. but he soon realized he couldn't enchant a normal pan, the pan would break under the stress of the enchantment.
so he goes to the general store and buy another pan. this time, he takes it to the blacksmith to make the pan into a masterwork pan. then he enchants it into a pan of invisibility. basically you hit thing with it and it goes invisible. it's got one daily charge.
picture this: fucking pierce brosnan walks around in pretty robes, with a fancy ass looking pan on his belt. he clonks his friends on the head with it and they disappear.
as someone who loves cp2020, the last thing that needs criticism is the setting
the setting is a beautiful artifact and while the mechanics have problems, they're still very useable and (imo) are easier to pick up that some contemporary games. Honestly the most dated things (that really don't hold up today) are the skill list and Pondsmith's advice in Listen Up You Primitive Screwheads
No way, that's the definitive guide to dealing with minmaxing fuck nuggets
