Suddenly, three wizards jump out of the bushes! All three cast sleep at the party, and everyone fails at least one of their saves and falls into a deep slumber. Then the wizards kills them all in their sleep, one by one. The end.
*Sounds of spoons in the far distance* Truly Elowin, you're in the season's mood.
Is this what was supposed to happen with that encounter? Thank god nobody failed, and one of the wizards got his face eaten off by the anti-paladin, instead. :v:
I think he's referencing Spoony's Counter Monkey where he edited an encounter to make that happen.
I think he's referencing Spoony's Counter Monkey where he edited an encounter to make that happen.
I haven't watched most of the Counter Monkey videos, but Elowin legitimately had a bunch of wizards jump out of a bush and try to knock us all out in a Pathfinder game a few years ago, only for the Tiefling Anti-Paladin to knock one of them out and then drag him out of sight and eat his face off. And this was one of my first experiences with tabletop games. :v:
Wow Elowin, literally ripping off Spoony, what bad taste!
He's like twelve cut him some slack
Heys guys, I'm working on my first one off for 5e which will involve running 3 level one PCs through a pretty simple adventure. I wanted the final combat encounter to be against a Drow Mage (pg.129 of the monster manual) with two human bandits as guards. Drow Mages are listed as challenge level seven so I intended to nerf him down to be more on par with the PCs, specifically removing the demon summoning ability and bumping down his spellcasting ability to only 1st level spell slots. By default Drow Mages have a +6 to hit with spell attacks. Would this make him too efficient at hitting low level PCs?
Even 1st level spells can 1-shot 1st level PCs, especially magic missile which is unavoidable. I'd remove both his attack spells (magic missile and witch bolt) and replace them with grease, color spray, ray of enfeeblement or expeditious retreat (he can still deal damage with ray of frost and poison spray). I'd also lower his spell attack bonus to +4 and his spell save DC to 12, and lower his HP to something between 20-30 (AC 15 with mage armor is fine, and it takes one of his spell slots).
Wow Elowin, literally ripping off Spoony, what bad taste!
No it's fine, I changed it around. Although it's like 4 years ago and I don't remember what exactly I changed. I think they were all naked except hats and wizard sticks.

I nerfed his stats down pretty hard but stuff like Witchbolt seemed like a serious issue. I'm considering adding a lair action to the fight that will allow him to summon very weak undead to stop the heros from just rushing him down so having his spells mainly be debuffs would work well I think.
I'm getting kind of annoyed. A guy at work wants to play with his friends as a group of blood hunters and I told him I'd run the game for him. We keep bouncing ideas back and forth but now he wants to out-right ban races and classes, as well as start everyone at level 3. He's trying to take control of the game himself while changing everything up. I've agree'd to a tiefling player-race ban, but he also wants to ban dragonborns and force other players to pick certain blood hunter paths. It's starting to get really annoying how much he wants to alter the game.

Yeah you're gonna have to make it clear that you're running this else I can see him trying to hijack the campaign for his own ends.

what the fuck is a blood hunter do they go around looking for blood
what the fuck is a blood hunter do they go around looking for blood
It's a homebrew class made by Matthew Mercer.
what the fuck is a blood hunter do they go around looking for blood
I imagine they are really aggressive blood donation people. They knock on your door and guilt trip you as to why you haven't given any blood yet.
Blood Hunters are also sometimes used in crime scene investigations to sniff out dried blood, as they're really good at that apparently.
Originally Blood Hunters were called Witch Hunters and were specifically made for the D&Diesel video on Geek&Sundry to help promote a movie that Mr. Vinn was starring in. Matt continued to work on it drawing on influence from the Witcher series and eventually changing the name to Blood Hunter to avoid copyrights. It's an interesting class idea. A lot of it involves assigning specific debuffs or initially harmful effects on your character to improve combat abilities with some bonuses thrown to investigation and such. A friend of mine played it for a bit but he was normally drunk while doing so and as such it was hard to parse what he was trying to do.
Things that have happened to my dragonborn paladin. Tripped up so hard he left an imprint on the floor. Had a window shut on him Failed many generous stealth rolls and forced to fight the second most powerful npc in the game (gm was merciful) Stabbed in the abdomen for 2/3rds his health Literally fell into the astral plane Left his chest piece back in time Mobbed after he accidentally knocked over an old lady. Knocked out by a thrown bottle Spat on repeatedly Nearly blew his lungs out trying to keep the party cold with his fire breathe even though it was a phantom cold It ain't easy being chivalrous
Too be fair Most of it was your fault entirely
Maybe you should've thought about that before you ordered the snarky rogue to stay put and force us to fight a fucken leshen with just the two of us
I said most
I think the one lucky thing that's happened to Dradhall is having like 47 hp at level 4. All the more health to be beaten out of me by angry villagers [editline]3rd October 2016[/editline] Also, never forgetti that the DM fucked up how to confirm crit failures just when it would fuck me over, so instead of denying crit rolls, he actually confirmed them, and then when he did it properly, it confirmed a crit failure I rolled. Dradhall is on a bad streak of luck
While playing Black Crusade we found out our Chinese friend is going to join as a heretek, so obviously we start making jokes like how he's going to specialize in cheap knockoff archeotech. He'll never play it like that but it would be funny.
Has anyone ever played the Halo: Mythic tabletop? It seems really interesting.
Cliff hanger ending to our SR session last night, we're in a car chase in a stolen ambulance with the police and a blood spirit after us, everyone's already injured, fair chance we might die.
how often do you end up getting chased by blood spirits mate
I'm 3 out of 4 on my last 4 Shadowrun groups.
We also fought KE's finest last night, whom evaded the adept's sword swings every time, powered through or dodged my drone's autoshotty, and dodged the riggers machinepistol fire, while nearly 1-hit KOing said adept Was only my decker's timely arrival and the debut of my sonic cannon which took him down and made him puke himself into unconsciousness Incidentally, said sonic cannon is proving ludicrously effective in general. Who needs guns when one hit has basically even odds to take down anything with normal biology
