some dumb wizarboo in a costume, not even shooting magic

Unfortunately looking like a wizard will get you killed in most settings.

nothings worse than a fake sorcerer, every motherfucker be jealous of that super sorcery swag
today in Shadowrun
we managed to survive a Vory ambush basically flawlessly (save for the Physad who got gunned down but only into unconsciousness)
also in the course of about 10 days of ingame time I turned the pretty standard police heli I stole last week into a heavily-armored, fully-kitted-out gunship of death
hey remember that thing I talked about and then stopped talking about
well here it is

I have to approve people so no randy mc randos make accounts on it, but I should approve it pretty quick. General is open to posts - everyone with 2 stars when they post is me - and my players will get access to it Thursday, so you have a couple of days to give it that fresh shitposted feel

the game is in seattle - players are starting in puyallup but will probably go to other districts for stuff
if you could weave some setting info into your shitposting that would be cool
once my players are in, you'll be able to spot them as they'll be titled as 'Probationary Member'

Cautiously reviewing my combat encounters because I don't really want to kill this cast of level 1 PCs with a grand total of 9 - 11 hp each...
...But on the other hand I really want them to fight this Animated Armor.

Lower it's armour?
Lower health?
If player in death save, armour ignores that player?
Use the environment to impede it?
Use the environment to cause more damage to it than players weapons?

All considered. I feel like 4 on 1 they could take it on decently, especially since they can all out move it but I'm equally concerned about making encounters too easy. I'll probably cut 13 hp off its total and call it donezo.
[editline]11th October 2016[/editline]
Realistically I think combat encounters are done for now and I should move onto map building, but my friend mentioned the generator site I used to help me scale encounters tends to make very 'easy' fights in his session.

I was actually briefly considering a small group of busted up armored suits, some of them crawling and others limited to just a pair of legs. The idea being that the suits were enchanted to keep fighting after their wearers death, so they've all got skeletons bumping around inside them keeping them partially assembled.
[editline]11th October 2016[/editline]
I think one powerful suit with a corpse still rattling around inside is terrifying enough though, over having the party fight the entire island of misfit armor.

Not every fight is supposed to be a life or death situation in D&D, it's designed around resource management. Vast majority of fights are just meant to drain the PC's resources. Chip away a some hit points, use up a few spells or other abilities, generally soften them up for the bigger fights.

Dismembered leg hopping after the party
Occasionally it'll catch up when they take a rest
Starts kick one of the party members while they sleep
Follows them everywhere

Simple, Rusty Animated armour. Knock down its Hp/AC by a bit but keep everything else the same. Always feel free to tweak stats a little for the sake of fun, if you think animated armour would make a neato encounter Go for it, always tweak, even tweak retroactivly if you must. If Normal animated armour is winning too hard have it suddenly crack and reveal the corrosion hiding within.

I sort of figure this out pretty late and I've since revised the structure of the session. Combat encounters are now pretty modular, usually a fight with several average strength enemies or one strong enemy, but since the group is traveling through an overworld I can easily cut out or add additional encounters based on how well they're doing. I even have harder encounters, such as night time ambushes, set up in case they mismanage their resources and try to long rest after every fight.
Overall the feedback from this thread has been very helpful in designing this session, esp for someone whose never DM'd.

I don't know what cp2020 means/is but characters are the same in most settings.
A rough, old ex military type who has a story for every situation
A cold calculating tech person who is uncomfortable around other people
A friendly, warm person who takes pride in helping others (unless cp2020 is something to do with warhammer where this person would be as out of place as an emperor worshiping Tau)

Be a young frontier doctor, who in a uprising twist, hasn't lost his sense of optimism yet. Maybe a bit too optimistic considering the circumstance.
Or a chemist and trained doctor whose fascinated with cooking drugs, both recreational and medicinal. Mainly recreational.
Or a dispassionate but highly competent former surgeon, whose banishment to the harsh frontier is a convenient way to circumvent issues like "morality" and inconvenient necessities such as "bed side manner".
Be a melee medic, something like Dr. Ned. Fix up people with opponent's limbs.

Would Shadowrunners log on with their street names, or with oviously disposable online names?
Started playing 5e a few months ago, it's probably the highlight of my week now and every session feels like a couple of minutes.
We're coming up on level 8 at the moment, and I've got a monk with a base AC of 16 (human and I rolled pretty bad, 16 Dex and 16 Wis so a save of 14 for my effects too), I had 17 AC with a ring but I lost that. Wondering now on level up if I should take the mobile feat, mage slayer feat or just a straight ASI, just looking for opinions since I'm torn at the moment
I finally got an actual campaign going for D&D 5th Ed. (Lost Mine of Phandelver) and it hit a bit of a rocky start. First off, only half the players made it: the fighter and paladin. The bard had other plans and I've yet to hear ANY word from the paladin's friend - however, it was already 3 weeks in the making and I said "fuck it, it's for 3-4 people and I'll just NPC the bard". They didn't mind, so we started.
It was going pretty well, then problem #2 came up. So, I started making attack rolls for the enemies, but I noticed the rolls would only show for the DM. This is fine and good for ability checks, but I prefer my players to know when they're about to get hit and not have them get paranoid when I say "you can't see his attack roll, but you totally got hit, trust me", so I have to manually roll those instead of being able to just click their sheet shortcuts.
So anyway, they start fighting, but fighter and pally have TERRIBLE dex and the bard got surprised, so they took quiet a few hits before they could act. Finally fighter starts and I was already worried (he complained in previous 3.5 and Pathfinder campaigns that he couldn't hit anything and combat was boring). He chucks a javelin and boom, natural 20. I exclaim that the javelin launched from him like a lightning bolt, impaling the monster and sending it flying 30 feet back before pinning it to a tree. Needless to say, it really pumped everyone up and the rest of the encounter went well.
Now they're about half way through the first dungeon, paladin smashing heads like watermelons and naming his weapon 'The Mallet of Gallagher'; having (barely) survived a raging current; pegging another guy with a well placed javelin and having him tumble off a bridge (even played the Wilhelm Scream in roll20's jukebox, which everyone got a kick out of); and had a pitched battle in complete darkness when the party's placed down lantern got kicked over.
At the end of the session, they told me they really enjoyed it so far! I was touched when one of them even said "I'd love to do this on a weekly basis!" Finally, after so many flakey attempts, it finally turned out great!
Also, if it was evident by his weapon's name, paladin decided his deity, which I decided to canonize for him:

tl;dr: my friends finally love D&D ;w;
Street names probably - whatever they'd want other runners/contacts to know them by
also another note - 'Scale' is a pretty well connected fixer in Puyallup the party will be working with, and he's the one that manages the financial/social aspects of the network. 'Hardwire' is admin and manages all the technical stuff.
I'm assuming scale and hardwire aren't the only npcs on the board.

Anyone with 1 Star and 'Verified Member' on their posts is one of my NPC's
Tested out combat of my Stalker TRPG. Shit tier weapons (1 Damage) don't kill rookies (at least 4 Wounds) fast enough (also, because everyone is shit at hitting each other to boot). Time for rebalancing.
My once beautiful campaign is now a living hell.
A hell which i help create
A party of three
The two fighters and their paladin
The paladin has an armour of 20 fighting bandits of 12armour
The fighter does +4 on her first attack and +8 on her second
The other has made a poisned quiver which coats each and every one of her 200 arrows
They have diplomatic immunity
An airship the STOLE from the enemy by LAUNCHING THEMSELVES AT IT VIA CATAPULT
We stopped for the night while they discussed exactly "how" they could mount a ballista to its underside.
They are only level 3
I can't stop the madness anymore
I can only embrace it.
what did they roll for fall damage
did they even roll at all to hit the airship

At this point your best bet is to have some world ending being show up and turn the entire continent into a mad max hellscape for them to toot around in in their airship.
