How about what one of my players almost put on his roll20 sheet when he was making it while sleep deprived: Chaotic Lawful.
Lawful good is definitely the best alignment, by far.
Can't believe the amount of apostates disagreeing with this.
Lawful good is definitely the best alignment, by far.
But then I can't torture. Whats even the point in living?
But then I can't torture. Whats even the point in living?
You can totally torture people if you're LG, if it's for the greater good.
But then I can't torture. Whats even the point in living?
You've not tried to holywater-board someone you are pretty sure is possessed by a demon?
Hello everyone, I'm going to be DMing a 3.5e game in a little while and I've been doing some preparing for it (writing up encounters, setting up characters and the setting). Is there any advice people on here could offer? I have DMed before but that was for a very loose interpretation of the 4e rules and hopefully we'll be playing this one to the book, house rules non withstanding.
You've not tried to holywater-board someone you are pretty sure is possessed by a demon?
No but I threatened a party member by saying I would "...stick my skinning knife under your knee and pop it off as if I was shearing bark from a tree" because he wouldn't let me bring my horse inside a cabin. There's more context but its better this way.
whelp, time to sit in discord and wait to see if any of my shadowrun players turn up this week I got 1/4 last time, maybe I can break 2 this time
But then I can't torture. Whats even the point in living?
What you need to do is invent a group that swears by torture for everyone you disagree with and follow that code rigorously. Suddenly you're the most lawful person on the block!
How about what one of my players almost put on his roll20 sheet when he was making it while sleep deprived: Chaotic Lawful.
a good villain thinks he's in the right. a great villain is right. I think it's an alignment you COULD RP out, but only as a GM running the antagonist also hey quick questions on DMing a campaign: How do I sort out how much content I need (or should cut) to ensure a session lasts a decent amount of time and feels rewarding to round out for the night? my PLAN for the first session of this adventure is playing it pretty safe- party is brought together by the expected dude-with-a-risky-job, are taken to a location to figure out what happened to a spaceship that had been there a few days prior. [additional breadcrumb locations while tracking it can be added here]. They discover its whereabouts, but the big old ship is derelict because [reasons], big spooky thing to investigate; was it looted by pirates, does it show signs of pirate attack/looting but all the cargo's still inside? did the crew just vanish?, etc. Trying to settle on a few plot points yet but the general situation is the same, it's big and unnervingly empty. [event] happens, the ship they traveled on to get here is damaged or otherwise pushed off and they can't return to it, enemies board/come out of the woodwork/whatever and there's pressure to repair the ship while a struggle happens so they can escape, taking the big ship to be their new adventuring vessel tl;dr, mission briefing > investigation space station > discover ship > climactic events inside ship > escape with ship and earn rewards + now own a big fixer-upper. does that seem like a reasonable chunk of events to be a 4 hour session, or do you think it could drag on, or be oddly short if the party is really succinct and just sprints goal-to-goal? Also, if one of my players is a hacker/mechanic with just an improvised melee weapon (system is savage worlds + sci fi companion but I'm willing to mix-and-match with other systems to ensure stuff is fun), how could I compliment this in the adventure? I don't want to be blatantly planting robots/drones/weapons systems at every turn for them to abuse. the system didn't exactly give me much to work with, but could I treat this as a pet class and let them find and keep a robot/whatever early on?
First thing is to never assume players will do ANYTHING in the time you think it will You can end up spending weeks on meaningless sidequests that you thought they'd blow through in less than a session, or the massive set of battles that are your capstone will be over in barely a session In practice, I've always found it's best to start with at least enough to have one main goal, for the immediate short term, then work out some time-wasting kind of stuff the players can do around that if they finish your main course early. And honestly, if it's the scifi future, I imagine there's probably some sort of local internet, or other information network that they can hack things through, maybe as a way to have a sort of counterplay where high-tech weapons are obviously superior to lower-tech ones but vulnerable to hacking or targeting jams or the like. I'd honestly recommend taking a look at how 5e Shadowrun does hacking, because that's a system where hackers can really kick ass through the internet, if the enemy is properly teched-up, without necessarily needing to go into their own little world or the like. As for the mechanic deal, that's usually more of a between-adventures thing, unless you want to throw in some sort of mcguyver-esque system to let them make random weapons out of scrap (which I'm pretty sure is already a thing in SW), but again, how you do it would probably come down to what sort of scifi you're doing
I just parried a cyberninja's katana with my implanted blades and half-Nelson'd him out of my apartment window after shooting his buddy with my sawn off when he and his buddy broke into my apartment 👌 [editline]15th November 2016[/editline] Meanwhile the rest of the team are in a nightclub and getting trashed by ninjas also, the decker is down and the rigger nearly lost an arm.
stuff
McGyver is straight up written in as a player 'edge', which the player conveniently took. There's also some mechanics involving ship repair during a fight so I'll be looking into how well that'd work with an internal threat, I really don't want to tell them "hey sit back here and hope nothing attacks you while you spend every turn just staring at the side of this engine"
turns out the only person missing today was the guy I knew would be missing due to health issues two characters are in a holding cell waiting to be transferred to a KE facility in downtown and the others have struck a deal with another friend who wandered into the discord channel at a convenient time to try and free them 2/3 of the people they have got to help them are orks 1/2 of the players left are pretty darn racist against orks the 1/2 of the party that got taken away by KE are the main breadwinners in the killing things department everything is crashing downhill violently

Here's the monster(s) I'm gonna make my group fight next.

Welp, I just spent way too much money on WFRP 3e sets. Honestly, if WFB itself hadn't dissipated completely (thanks again, GW), I probably would've been fine with just the core set, but whatever. Also, yay for international forwarders! I might be able to get Battlefleet Koronus and Into The Storm now!
