D&D V6 - Edition jokes don't really make sense anymore
Just out of curiosity about those who use audio in their sessions, how seriously do you take it? While I myself am DMing I have used tracks for ambience and battle music, I have also used this when the cleric tried to contact her god while they were in a place that was cut off, and now I'm planning on using the Initial D First Stage bumpers for a paired joke.
Since none of my players go here I'll tell you guys the plan: When the session ends I'm going to play the first bumper to close it off, then a week later when the session has just started (and knowing my players they will have forgotten about the first bumper), I'll play the second bumper.
If the players enjoy it and you have fun with it go ahead and use it. For my campaigns, I personally like to use ambiance and background music whenever possible. My absolute favorite thing to do is find awesome combat music and then the perfect boss battle music as final touches to a scene and fight. That's because I find music a vital piece to stories like these and media.
I may throw in a tiny joke audio here and there. All I do at the moment is play Monty Python Intermission music when we go on breaks.
After 10+ years of playing Baldur's Gate 1, 2 and some mods, I remembered that I have money and can buy the other games I wanted from when I was younger. So I bought these :joy:

PS:T arrived today but the IWD collection arrived last week so I've been playing iwd1 a bit
I was doing a solo bard run and thinking this game is fuck-hard before I realised that you can create other characters to fill up your party...

My players bard already has +4 proficiency for some skills due to race/bard at level two (+2 proficiency bonus)
He's just gone to level three and 'expertise' says "two of your skills proficiency bonus is doubled."
Does that mean he can make two skill +8 or what?
Now he's going to college of lore which gives him proficiency in three more skills.

He can make two of those skills +6, not +8. It looks like he's making a skill monkey bard (especially with College of Lore) so his obviously his specialty and focus will be knowing his shit and doing it expertly. I don't see anything wrong with that. It does mean he will be the go-to-guy for certain things.
Pretty sure you can't be doubly proficient in a skill; You either have proficiency or you don't. You can't get it from both your race and your class; If that happens, you pick a different proficiency.
No, this is a specific ability bards and some varieties of rogue get, which allows them to double their proficency mod for a couple of skills

Yes, Expertise. It ONLY doubles the proficiency mod, nothing else.

I can see where the confusion comes from when you have a proficiency bonus which is a modifier to a certain kind of roll, and then a a part of that bonus is called the proficiency modifier.

Our nomenclature is all over the place, so let's just get down to the root issue because we're making it a lot more complex than it actually is
You have a proficiency bonus, which is a universal component of every class (scaling from +2 to +6 over 20 levels). You add this as a bonus to things you are proficient in, be it skills, tools, or saving throws
So, in the above example, we have a bard with +2 proficiency bonus and a +2 attribute bonus to a given skill. He also has the Expertise ability, which allows him to double his proficiency bonus to this skill we're talking about. Thus, he's got +2 from the base bonus, +2 from his attribute, and +2 from his ability, leading to +6 total.
Last night in Shadowrun we found a dog that can hack with it's mind, we took it with us and tried to pick a name for it, he started texting us so he's sort of a talking dog now. He doesn't like explosions.
Also Rear drew this

Oh and we also found some kinda nanotech WMD that destroys electronics that's going to be detonated in Berlin
The Old Man leads you to your destination and politely thanks you for the conversation and company before taking his books back and heading down the street. Once he gets towards the end of the road you hear him grunt slightly and lean forward as if he's about to fall...
"Oh shit, I run over to see if he's alright."
Okay, as you approach... and you see this as well Fighter, the old man braces his knees and takes off into the air leaving a small swirling pile of dust in his wake. You see his figure dissappear into the cities horizon like a geriatric jet plane.
"What the fuck."

The compression wasn't added by me btw, apparently someone drew and saved the original on a fucking windows 95 machine or something.

If I was at home right now I'd sharpen it, compress it and repeat 10 times for that true Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff look
Something I forgot to put in the thread about Monday's session that I had written down:
"I have a car and I don't need food, I don't need anybody" -Aleister Bolt the warforged binder after the rest of the party went their separate ways and nobody wanted to go help him attempt to take down a god who had been indirectly responsible for killing his creator/dad.
Also I managed to use the characters' associations with different groups to lead them to the same destination after splitting up, because these different groups had reasonable motives to send fightin' people to stop the inquisition from attacking the shit out of a magical city. A bit railroady IMO, but it was good enough for the group.
is there a discord or anything for FP dnd?

Nah, not that many of us that post here actually play together
My player's ranger had the worst stats out of anyone in the group and I ended up feeling pretty bad for him when he wanted to use a composite bow without any strength bonus to even get any benefit; so I let him reroll his strength (10) in a moment of weakness just because otherwise he'd be a pretty pitiful ranger.
He got 17; not doing that again haha!

its not necessarily a bad idea tho

It's only a +3, could be worse.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong I'm happy for him. It's just that I didn't quite expect it to go zero to a hundr-+3 so quickly and I was like "ah shit what if the others want this too"

It was a special circumstance, to be fair. I'd say if any of your other players want to reroll stats, and the stats they're re-rolling aren't important for the role they're playing, just say no. If they are important, but are already higher than 10, let them re-roll, and force them to keep whatever number they get.(EG, if your 16 Int wizard decides he wants to try and re-roll to get 18 int, but then he rolls a 12, he's fucked himself over.)
Of course, make them roll somewhere you can see, and verify for yourself that the dice landed however they landed, so the wizard can't just say 'oh, hey, I rolled a 20 on my 3d6. :downs:'
Not rolling stats in D&D is the best.
Or just set the rules in advance and let people roll before locking into their characters
Just don't be a dick about it whatever you do.
Or alternatively, don't roll for stats.

I went ahead and made a discord chat

Actually Elo, would you put that in the OP? Just in case people actually use it.
Or alternatively, talk it over. Set the rules ahead of time, but don't enforce them to such a degree that a player who is unhappy with their current setup (legitimately so) are forced to play a character that they're not keen on playing.
One person in our group managed to roll a 6, 10, 13, 8, 9 and 10 one time for their stats. While a couple of us would have played the character regardless, the person who rolled them wouldn't have particularly enjoyed themselves. The DM allowed her to reroll her stats entirely. Another time, while playing an aarakocra, I rolled two 18's and a 17. I believe my worst stat, before racial modifiers, was a +2. In that case, I actually offered to drop two of my stats a bit. Even after the drop they were definitely a fair bit above average stats, but they were toned back as to not overshadow the rest of the group.

Sure, but no one actually reads the OP lol.

If you're rerolling or modifying them like that, why roll for stats in the first place?
My party just picked up a young, friendly sweet princess NPC from a holy light worshipping city.
She quickly became the group's cheerleader, offering us pats on the back and warm smiles as we traveled.
Later, during a particularly tough fight where a high level Drider was killed the cute little princess walked over to the corpse and kneeled down beside it
"Princess be careful around that, wouldn't want to get hurt. Hoho!" Says the bard.
She smiles, turns back to the corpse
Casts, Desecrate
Casts, Animate Dead
The Drider rises again dripping flesh and she rides it turning it into her personal rotting bodyguard and mount.
"This is the destiny that shall await all those who dwell in the underdark."
We are going there next.
Bard's face. :wideeye:
