to me the saw is so underadvantaged compare to the RPK
RPK is literally an AKM with a 75 round magazine. it's brutal, even with single shot
the m249 just kicks all over the place and is always on automatic, and to me the recoil is almost uncontrollable. it's really the only gun that i absolutely cannot do any good with
then you are just bad. recoil on m249 is perfectly manageable and the only thing "uncontrollable" is the accuracy and grouping when you're spraying.
if you miss the first initial burst then you're pretty much screwed, especially compared to the foregripped weapons that pretty much zero in to where you were originally shooting when you let off the trigger
the most annoying thing is the overdone "pop" animation when you fire from the hip. it's really misleading and it makes recoil appear way worse than it really is
i can easily go full ham for the entire box mag and still keep the sights pointed at a small window that's 100km away. you're just bad.
i'd like to see you try
the only time i ever die by anyone using an m249 is if they unload at point blank and get off a lucky burst or if they're laying prone and deployed. in a standing gunfight you won't win even against an open target
[editline]3rd January 2015[/editline]
don't deploy your bipod next time you want to brag about how great you are at using the least reliable weapon in the game
every time i see you post i nthis thread you're always going on about having a foregrip on your akm. maybe if you didn't use a crutch you'd actually be able to use other weapons?
If anyone knows of a good guide for hosting listen servers in Insurgency, we'd be most appreciative. I've got a decent internet, but even with ports forwarded properly nobody can connect to my server.
are you trying to make a private server?

i rarely use the akm (or a foregrip for that matter) because i know how to play the game and not suck asshole, and for the record i can manhandle the m249 like it's nobody's business. the average player is fresh off the train though and when you say "this weapon is good" all you're doing is throwing sand in their face because they hop in to an adversarial game and get absolutely curb stomped when they attempt to use it
stop lying to yourself and other players and just admit that only a handful of the weapons are any good for pubbies. when i see people use the m1a1 and get mad because they keep dying all i can do is roll my eyes
I'm pretty damn good with the SAW, but it's because I almost exclusively play checkpoint. I'm always crouched, moving slowly, and usually bring up my sight and give the mouse a tap. With that it's pretty easy to control against up to 3 or 4 AI. A larger group will quickly take me down but that's a rarity.
And it's a great tool to clean up far objectives while my team moves up.

since when was this conversation about new players in general? i'm talking about YOU because that's what your initial post was about, YOURSELF.

just pm me or post here if there's any issues

decided to run it on coop instead, hope that's ok
also it's on matchmaking now so should actually see players

I usually use <map map_name game_mode>, but for some reason, it forces people to use <connect> in the console even though the server is visible with the correct ip in the steam overlay (the server is non-responsive using "join game"), I have yet to learn how to go around this
If you want to make private servers, it is actually more practical to use the dedicated server software. Even if you manage to get your map and favorite gamemode running, you still need to get rid of bots etc. Plus it is a pain in the arse to only be able to use the console ingame. Running srcds is pretty much click 'n' go, only needa set your starting map.
@JerryK: Nice, if we get enough people together we can have a fullscale facepunch exclusive match some time. We only need enough participants. Last time we got around 10 volunteers, but we'll need atleast 16. Also PMing you a few good coop-maps ye should add.
edit: nvm, ping is too high for me on this one. You might wanna set up a pass btw, to keep the publics out. It is really annoying when some random twat runs about and ruins your squads organized room clearing.
AT4 is amazing on coordinated servers lol
6 multikill!
You know what could make this game better? A map on which you could draw + a better more detailed grid, a compass, free squads and the ability to use alltalk and squadchat individually. Basically everything that made Project Reality good. Tbh, it isn't a shame to copy the stuff that is useful and improving the game.

imo the maps are too small for that sort of detail.
Project Reality maps are fucking huge so it works well in that mod, but imo wouldn't work as well in ins
Oh man, I had a glorious moment on Heights the other day in the 3-point ABC mode where you only spawn once per point capture.
On the insurgent forces, I chose the sniper class with plain Ironsights+AP Mosin to stay stocked up on a bunch of smokes and alternate equipment. After capping B, I rushed over to C building with my M45A1 out and ducked into a corner of the first floor living room. No more than fifteen seconds after I set up, two security guys come in one after the other and I dispatch them both with one pistol mag. Unable to reload, I switched to my iron sight mosin and blasted the security guy just entering the hallway door. By then, my teammates came and helped me keep the point.

Even just a god damn compass would make communication 10x more useful. Its a fucking shame one is not present.

Planning is quite hard with publics right now. One of the causes is the lack of good tools for such. You cannot exactly tell your m8s where to go without complex description of the place, rather than a sexy set of coordinates, you cannot quickly call out contacts other than with an inaccurate hud marker (which imo is terrible), and the squad system is a fucking joke, and only makes half of the team hear you in voicechat.
Don't get me wrong, Insurgency is a wonderful game, but there is so much potential being wasted, by not having these basic tools. It could be much better and encourage more teamwork at the same time. The map size does not have shit to do with it, it is about organizing effectively.
I think a really good way to discourage rushing is to add traps. like give grenade traps for insurgents and claymores for security but they're really expensive. or allow both teams to load out with tripflares that are cheaper.
I dunno if this idea's already been considered. I'll be surprised if it hasn't

tripflares would be pretty cool

wrong type of game for those things
insurgency is more akin to cod, not battlefield or arma. besides, using the voice commands pretty much cover all of that.
Funny thing, it doesn't have to be like that. I have played with dedicated groups before, who were not rushing twats and actually played in an organized manner. When the players actually make sure to cover every angle and move together as a team, the game becomes so much more intense. It is DEFINETELY possible, we just don't see it alot because most people don't care too much. I think adding the above mentioned tools can encourage more teamplay, and if it doesn't, dedicated teams have better tools atleast. I don't see the harm in not implementing them. I think especially the squadsystem has to be reworked. People feel more inclined to follow SL orders if they join voluntarily, rather than being forced into one of two premade squads. The squadsystem as it is now is completely useless for organizing and does not allow to use teamtalk and squadtalk individually, which I believe is a HUGE problem, as half of the team is only hearing you on localtalk.
Also, voicecommands do NOT allow you to plan ahead in a region which you cannot see. That is definetely inferior to a drawable map system.
ugh, fuck, this thread dropped off my "recent posts" list. Anyone in this thread up for an organized weekend game? Go into a pub server and maybe win against the lonewolves and COD kids?
I'd be up for it, had been playing with 5-6 people, with a few guests from FPARMA. Thing is, if we make up a whole team it'll be hard to get everyone onto the same side all the time. A fp vs. fp would be easier to do, requires double amount of people though.
I'd be up for it.
I guess I will just repost the last attempt at an exclusive FP match. Hopefully more people will be in this time. Or do ya think making a poll/thread on the forums over here is better for attention etc.?

This reminds me: We may have trouble, considering some people in here are European and others are in North America. Maybe connecting to US east coast servers might allow for everyone to play?

No love for asian players? :(
Hmm, ye are right. Idk how other groups do it, but I think we could split up the event, one in EU/Westasia, and one in NA/Eastasia. Makes it harder again though to find enough participators.

This one is for general participation. If we have enough I will make another one for regionsplitting if necessary.
