Absolutely no hope for that story mode. Unless they can get a writer who isn't going to copy black hawk down/apocalypse now I'm not sure why they'd even bother.
War stories are dime a dozen unless there's an actual message or themes being conveyed and that's hard as shit to do when the best war stories have already been told.
Also fucking terrible name how many darude jokes do they think they can take?

I'm not sure if this was a low effort quick port or the real thing because it really does not look that much better.

Hard to judge the whole thing based off one comparison. But at least there isn't massive asset re-use there.
In addition to console support, Insurgency: Sandstorm will contain some exciting new features such as a new story mode and eSports framework. The game is being built from the ground up with competitive multiplayer, console split-screen, and singleplayer in mind. The story mode will focus on a squad of characters as they face increasingly challenging chapters, from the invasion of Iraq in 2003 through the insurrection period and leading to the present day.

New World Interactive is currently developing a new eSports framework that it plans on deploying into Insurgency: Sandstorm upon release. In the meantime, New World Interactive intends to release a fully functional beta of these competitive systems into the current Source Engine version of Insurgency. The systems will be stress-tested and improved upon with the help of the community leading up until the launch of Insurgency: Sandstorm.
“The industry is going wild about the potential of eSports and we recognize the potential Insurgency has from the very root of its gameplay. Taking the time to build our competitive systems, while receiving data and feedback from the community will allow us to iterate towards quality and ensure we have a solid framework for the new console launch. We look forward to delivering to our passionate competitive fanbase the experience they’ve long been waiting for.” – Andrew Spearin – Creative Director of Insurgency.
There is no official release date planned for the competitive beta rollout, but the team is hard at work and intends to test as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will taking community questions about our plans with the current Insurgency and Sandstorm on our weekly live stream, this Saturday February 27 at 3pm EST on our official Insurgency Twitch.tv channel. we're getting modern middle-east game #462 again :v:
Sandstorm isn't all we're working on ;)
[editline]23rd February 2016[/editline]
Also, since I like you guys, ima share some of the stuff I've been working on.
Obviously nothing is final and everything's subject to change yadda yadda and all that.

so it's being put on consoles solely for competitive nonsense?
lol. i'll probably still play it anyway, i just hope there's a nice discount.
ETA : I just noticed Sandstorm is also scheduled to ship on PC. Reminds me a bit of the Carmageddon Max Damage situation

A bit off-topic, but it almost feels as if you're working on every game ever
Are you part of both NWI and the Due Process team?

??? ue4 is pretty much made for console support right out of the box

a lot of developers work on tons of different projects
Is there any reason to use a bolt action over a semi auto besides its costs is a bit less? I'm just getting pissed seeing so many people trying to use the bolt action
The absolute best loadout in the game is an unmodified mosin nagant, no sidearm, and two frags.
Insurgency looks better than Sandstorm to me. It's a lot more colorful and less cluttered.
Its looking more like Battlefield to me. Also, Im super sick of the Middle Eastern theme, I really hope their "other" projects are much better.
I was hoping for a Balkans or Chechen game.
I was hoping for a Balkans or Chechen game.
Like I said, we're working on another project, and it's not going to be set in the Middle East.
That's all I'm saying ;)

cheeki breeki?
If it's Vietnam I'm going to be relatively pissed
If it's Vietnam I'm going to be relatively pissed
I'm going to be hyped as fuck if it is.
-snip
it was a mod
I would love to see a Benghazi or blackwater/marines scenario. You know, some co op defense against CPU that actually involves something more than just holding some ground and shooting at incoming ducks.
I'm going to be hyped as fuck if it is.
Don't get me wrong, but there's an awful lot of vietnam games coming up, and I really would love Insurgency to branch in other time periods
Don't get me wrong, but there's an awful lot of vietnam games coming up, and I really would love Insurgency to branch in other time periods
I can't think of a single one.
I can't think of a single one.
Only ones I know of are Rising Storm 2 and In Country: Vietnam (if we ever see the latter).
I thought In Country was cancelled due to RS2?
I thought In Country was cancelled due to RS2?
Not at all.
It's just that they have been dead silent for god knows how long now.
Yo Vman, I thought you were on the team for Due Process? Or are you like a freelancer?
Yo Vman, I thought you were on the team for Due Process? Or are you like a freelancer?
I'm on both!
I don't know about you guys, but I'm like 90% sure I'm buying Insurgency: Sandstorm. I've been craving a realistic FPS on consoles and this is it.

Dunno how many people care but turns out the american soldiers in DOI are ripped from a Captain America game. Not sure if there would be legal problems with that or not since its just a mod. Either way seems really lazy that they didn't just make their own models. See ~3 min mark.
