So hows the new day of infamy? Worth the bux?
I really enjoy it. It adds a different take on insurgency. My main gripe is that teamkills are common since nametags don't show up until a few seconds after and both sides look somewhat similar. Still, I think it's worth the 20 bucks. The flamethrower is insane btw.
I was hoping for 2003 Iraq and 2001 Afghanistan tbh. It would be interesting to see modern weapons with no/little attachments and maybe some tactical support of the era like drones if they are going to make the maps more open-spaced. I wonder though whether it's gonna beat Squad in the tactical shooter genre. They most likely will make their game different, but I wonder how?
Squad doesn't play like Insurgency at all. Sure, there's similarities, but Insurgency -> Squad is like Counter Strike -> Insurgency (only skimmed the article, but unless they are doing a total rework of gameplay the argument still persists)

Day of Infamy really DOES have an awful TKing problem. And remember, it's always YOUR army's gun-runs that kill you.
day of infamy is easily the most fun i have had in a shooter since when insurgency just came out. the classic dod maps are easily the best ones in the game but they're all really solid. the game is definitely better than most. it's a real shame most people look right past it. you guys need to really up your advertising game!

People see DoI and think it looks like a game from 2010. Meanwhile UE4 games like Days of War or Batallion 1944 get massive hype, despite their gameplay looking like dogshit. Like, I really don't understand the hype behind Battalion, any videos of it in motion look atrocious.
Like, I really don't understand the hype behind Battalion, any videos of it in motion look atrocious.
Battalion looks like Quake just with a WWII coat of paint. I mean, there's fucking bunny hopping and strafe jumping in it.

Animations could use some real work.
Why does my game freeze up every time the game changes maps? It loads just one bit, then freezes totally for five minutes, then back to lobby with "lost connection" pop up. I can't even play anymore, same shit with day of infamy
i see nwi are still awful at making player/character models and animations those environments are top knotch though
DOI's character models are actually decent, but they still don't have freaking facial animations.
doi character models are a step forwards but the animations are still terrible. i would blame source but i know better. that being said, ins and doi are still forgivable because the base gameplay is unparalleled. for a single player campaign though that's kind of inexcusable i would like to see sandstorm player animations. ue4 is supposed to be super animation friendly and even really crappy games have amazing humanoid animations because they can be assigned to practically be seamless so it'd be nice to see that instead of just really wonky robot walking
What's been going on with this game in the last year? I haven't been able to play since my computer's performance began to tank a while ago.
What's been going on with this game in the last year? I haven't been able to play since my computer's performance began to tank a while ago.
Insurgency seems to be fairly active and the community is still making really great mods for it (including both nice looking skins and some funny ones). Day of Infamy is running around 500-1,000 people active so not too bad to find a server. Overall both are doing well, I haven't noticed any crazy updates unless you haven't been on after they added the Galil.
I really enjoy playing Day of Infamy, I think I like it more than I liked Insurgency. The coop is pretty much all I play in Day of Infamy and it is pretty entertaining. I hope they'll do a new content update soon though.
DOI free weekend starts today so give it a shot if you haven't played it.
Cheers for posting about it - I was hoping to check it out
Do people still play this? I'm getting a new computer soon and I've been looking forward to hopping back into Insurgency again but I know it's kind of old by now.
I just picked up the Insurgency/Day of Infamy pack. Haven't installed insurgency yet, but DoI is fantastic. Maybe the only game I've ever played where the flamethrower is actually fun to use and a decent weapon (on less open maps at least)
My favorite part of Insurgency is the fact that depending on the mods I'm using it can feel totally immersive or completely silly. Something really adds to the game for me when one day I could be fighting proper people with clean, well made and realistic guns and sounds, and another day be shooting at skeletons with a rifle that just spouts "my name jeff" instead of any actual gun sound. Also, I missed the DOI free weekend due to a business trip

Hmm, my game still crashes on map changes, it's putting me off so hard :(
Weird how the side by side comparison of the speed reload vs standard makes it look like the animation length is exactly the same.
I wonder if the designer really wanted it to be like that or it came down to Mr Brightside's "style". That dude does some great animation work, but his gun reloads tend to look way too calm. Like with that speed reload; a sensible touch would be flicking the bolt-release and quickly check afterwards if it is in battery unless you've already started firing. Though it would make most sense to inspect chambering and battery when you're not doing a speed reload. I wouldn't put it past being accidental as when people said that his HL2 reanimation pistol reload was too slow and calm looking the dude threw a hissy fit.

I wouldn't put it past being accidental as when people said that his HL2 reanimation pistol reload was too slow and calm looking the dude threw a hissy fit.
Spot on, DOI's animations drive me fucking nuts, they are way too slow. Speaking of DOI, a new map just got released and it's fucking terrible. I am 99% certain that NWI playtests their maps with 16 players max so they literally always need to rework them in future updates. They seriously need to hire a new mapper because I don't think there is a single map in either INS or DOI that doesn't have spawncamping issues or some other glaring problem.
have you played the alpha of DOI??? the grenade launchers were absolutely useless because it took like 20 seconds to draw it out and load a grenade. you had to wait for your dude to eject a round and load in a powder blank and it was just a mess. the other animations as far as i can tell haven't really been modified though DOI's full of problems, but it's biggest one is lackluster gameplay on an old as fuck engine. the game is fun in co-op, but the day of defeat style run-and-gun pvp is just abysmal. it doesn't work on a platform that's clearly meant to be a tac shooter INS' reload animations have never been a problem for me. sure, a real world operator would be really quick with magazine changes and wouldn't fumble around with their gun, but it's always been a golden rule in tactical shooters: reloading always takes a while, whereas transitioning to your backup weapon is near instantaneous. when in doubt, switch to your pistol. it's been that way since the ghost recon and rainbow six days. I remember when I used to play raven shield religiously, you'd get in a full-auto battle with someone and they'd accidentally reload and you'd switch to your pistol, take a knee and pop them in the chest while they're still slamming a magazine in. it's that way in insurgency too, and while some people don't like that it really does make a lot of sense. that being said, I totally agree that the mag eject animation should be even faster
