OpenRCT might just stay a dream ...
because it's called openrct2
Ah, my mistake, I guess there is more than one open source project out there :)
http://freerct.blogspot.com/
that project tends to go quiet and doesn't get updated nearly as much as i'd like.
i imagine what he's doing is also a much longer process than what the guys over at openrct2 are doing.

Agreed, I'm hanging on with my RSS feed reader waiting for that next news post... In the mean time though, I guess there's always good old RCT/2 to keep me entertained.
Oh, i actually noticed that freerct have received updates with days apart, last one about 4 days ago

Huh, you're right: https://code.google.com/p/freerct/source/list
And it looks like there's more than one person pushing code to it. Who says people don't use google code any more?
Are the GOG and Steam versions of 1 and 2 the same or what?
I can't say for sure, but usually GOG has better compatibility with newer systems than the Steam versions, not to mention being DRM free
God dammit i love 8carspertrainer.

Makes hilling flat space a pleasure.
Is it better to buy it on GOG or Steam? Or isn't there a difference in stability?
Besides the ground, i'm glad i have the logitech macro program for clicking like crazy, otherwise placing all trees and shrubs would have been a fucking bitch!

Now it's only a matter of putting shit all over the place

I have a both, and yeah, they do occasionally crash whenever you alt+tab, but besides that they both work fine for me.
IMHO RCT/2 have to be some of the best time-tested games, especially when it comes to compatibility. Dat assembly.
On the subject of FreeRCT, the silence was just broken with a blog post:

So what's the craze about FreeRCT? Mod supportability?
So what's the craze about FreeRCT? Mod supportability?
For me it's just having a modern, open source remake of the classic RCT games, kind of like OpenTTD for its respective classic game. I'd imagine mod support could be implemented if it isn't already though.
Oh, I get it. So no more bullshit pathfinding, etc
Seriously, it's really fucking bad even in RCT2. People running around the same couple tiles over and over again "I can't find the bathroom!"

Darn, I haven't played RCT2 but was sort of hoping they fixed that :v:
aaaand RCTW has worse graphics than RCT3, and the coasters ( especially since they are spline based) have awful transitions and look horrendous.
Good job.
Hype dead.
Same here, I'll wait for Theme Parkitect instead, it does coaster building right. RCT3 was my all time favorite game but now the series seems ruined. It looks a lot like Theme Park World, which is probably why they named it "RCT World".

How do you do that separate Enter/Exit station? I always get: "Station × is missing ×"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzgAhPffWsM
It looks quite bad I would say.
Yeah, compared to some of the screenshots they posted, that game (literally) looks like it came out in 2003. Now that I know the GOTY not to touch with a 10ft pole.....
[editline]5th March 2015[/editline]
I was a little worried when they said there was a total of four (4) themes to pick from, but now I'm so disappointed
[editline]5th March 2015[/editline]
Honestly they should just go back to an isometric style but find a way to make it feel more modern.

What the hell are those graphics.
That's beyond awful.
I mean if that's like early alpha I understand but look how bad they're trying to bullshit us with these screenshots lol

Aren't you gonna need to turn down the graphics anyway, once the park starts getting big? I mean, back when RCT3's graphics weren't essentially free to run, I know I had to start sacrificing settings after a while. :v:
No, the point is that you build your game ahead of its' time, so that it ages well. Having shit settings as the best choice is stupid because of how soon we would be able to run it effortlessly
for example, how DOOM 3 was released with "ultra" graphics settings, but back then (2004) nobody could run it :v:
Same with Crysis
i told you guys it would be shit
Oh actually yeah, didn't think of that. Well shit, nevermind what I said, it is pretty bad. Also why do they keep showing shots that don't have shadows in the trailer, could they not even run the game themselves like that?
so its basically rct3
woop-de-fucking-doo

The real coaster builders are going to be getting their triple-SLI titan rigs before release though so no worries.
[sp]Is titan the easy to pick on top of the line card these days? I honestly haven't been paying much attention...[/sp]
