Rollercoaster Tycoon - Drowning Entertainers Since 1999

There's honestly a lot that worries me about RCT(3)W now
first, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of scenery
[t]http://i.imgur.com/WShlh3N.png[/t]
this shot in particular, again the whole 'scenery under where a support would be removes the support' thing (justifiable, I suppose), but there doesn't seem to be scenery that doesn't look garish. If it really is just 4 themes, there better be enough in each to make a reasonable sized park around that theme. One part I love about RCT1/2 is that the best designs basically look like dioramas of rollercoaster parks. RCT3 couldn't really do that being 3d 'n' all, and this looks like it's going even further away from it. It's just 'build rollercoasters and place flat rides'
second, as mentioned earlier the coasters look super jerky. Like, worse than RCT3. Hopefully won't be as bad in the final game (provided it doesn't cost 90billion dollars)
third, where's the actual tycoon part of the rollercoaster tycoon? Haven't seen it mentioned in anything about the game. Will there be pitiful scenarios like RCT3? Is there even enough theming to make enough separate distinct scenarios?
I didn't think it was possible to lose this much hype for a game from a 1:21 trailer
This makes me really sad
Just coming in here to read anything that could potentially have been exciting, i'm met with this shit. Oh well, i had no hype in store for RCT:W to begin with, so i've lost absolutely nothing.
... It still doesn't feel good though.
How do you do that separate Enter/Exit station? I always get: "Station × is missing ×"
Well, i am not sure if every ride supports separate stations, but it's really just this: build some station, build some track, build some more station, and build the rest of the ride. Then you just plop down an exit at the first bit of station, and an entrance at the other bit. It SOMETIMES also have something to do with which operating mode you've set the ride to.
I'm not even sure how you managed to get that error, because i have NEVER seen it before in all my years of playing RCT/2 :v:
Not gonna buy full price now. I'll still buy it at reduced price or with expansions though, just for that new coaster system

Hm, Guess that differs from RCT1 and RCT2.Just tested it out in RCT2 an it worked
I mean if that's like early alpha I understand but look how bad they're trying to bullshit us with these screenshots lol

Supposedly that's not the same game. Pipeworks, the team that was doing the game at first, aren't working on it anymore and have been replaced with Area52 who are a completely new (as in they've made no other games) developer. I'm not sure if it's true but i read the reason was that Pipeworks had lots of ideas and things they wanted to do, so they wanted more time with the game, but were told no and replaced with Area52. So there's been a developer change, an engine change, gameplay changes, idea changes and less interaction with the community according to this post i read:

Atari must really be dragging itself around with no legs crying "just kill me" at this point
[editline]6th March 2015[/editline]
Why the fuck you would trust a brand new dev company with a legacy title sequel is beyond me. So fucking stupid
Hope they realize their stupidity when everyone kicked this horrible trailer back to them
[editline]6th March 2015[/editline]
Maybe someone will hire Pipeworks and they can make the next RCT in their ideal image and name it something similar enough to be recognized
"Roller Coaster CEO" :v:
Fucking Atari, jesus. This could've been a great game (possibly even a future classic or GOTY) if Atari hadn't replaced Pipeworks. But nooo, Atari is dumb as fuck and don't like good things
Dear RollerCoaster Tycoons,
This week we will be taking a slight detour in our production blogs to write a short pre-Game Developers Conference marketing update.
First, I would like to thank all of the fans who entered our Valentine’s Day sweepstakes led by our new Community Manager RCTCM. The sweepstakes entries were true to the RCT spirit – both creative and hilarious. It serves to highlight the importance of being able to build what you want, and the incredible things fans have been able to do with custom scenery. Fan creations are one of the very reasons we have had many serious design discussions on how and when to implement custom scenery features, as discussed in our previous blog posts.
But enough about production! As mentioned in our last blog, Atari has been extremely busy getting ready for GDC, so we apologize for not being able to get a post out sooner. However, I am happy to share that we’re going to reveal our second trailer very soon! We wanted to make sure we continued the story that began in the first trailer, while also featuring gameplay footage in a way that only RCT can. We can’t wait to show you!
The second piece of news is with the launch of our trailer we will also be launching our official Steam and Atari.com product pages; once those go live we will share a note about the release date of the game. We know a lot of you have been asking about our release schedule, and we will be addressing that shortly. Our primary focus is and always has been making sure we release the best possible game. We have exacting standards - RCTW must stay true to the franchise, be of AAA quality, and please our most dedicated fans, along with those who have yet to discover the magic of RCT.
I would like to take this time to ask all fans reading this blog that once the Steam page goes live to make sure to add the game to your Steam Wishlist and Follow the game. This is incredibly important to us as it allows us to not only communicate with you all automatically (most news will be posted there as well) but shows us and our partners the strength of the fan base. It takes two seconds for anyone to do and gives us, as well as you, a ton of value.
Lastly, as many of you have noticed, a few of our partners (particularly in retail) have already launched their product pages and in fact have shown a cool new piece of marketing material that I would like to officially share with you all. Below you will find the official reveal of the box cover for RollerCoaster Tycoon World. What’s special about this box cover is that it was designed almost entirely using models and art assets from the game. That means that a lot of what you see there will be available in the final game!
what
[editline]6th March 2015[/editline]
Alright Facepunch has decided I can't edit my own posts today
I don't know what to believe anymore.
On one hand, Atari is pretty incompetent so it's possible they just released an old trailer to try and keep the fans happy. I want to be optimistic.
On the other hand, I can't because screenshots can easily be cherrypicked or photoshopped, and who would release a trailer from an alpha version for a big game series?
Roller Coaster Tycoon (1999): You can hire gardeners to mow the lawn to make it look better.
Roller Coaster Tycoon World (2015): There isn't even grass at all.
Manage and monitor ride decay as you visit, manage and update your park regularly while rides will become outdated or breakdown more frequently over time.
This does seem interesting though. Atleast they aren't watering down RCT to baby level it seems.

I think 2 had that, eventually they'd break more over time.
I think 2 had that, eventually they'd break more over time.
Never knew, I thought it was just a static diceroll basically.
I hope breakdowns and decay are visible and cool-looking/realistic now, not just ''normal animation but with dust'' like in 3

I loved having me some fresh mowed lawns...

I doubt that will be a feature that's been kept after the developer change.
I don't trust Atari at all, they can't do anything. Remember Test Drive Unlimited 2? I think it got one patch before Atari decided to have it's annual Fuck Off and Fuck Us going out of business for the 30th time party
Heh, of course this is after I just purchased TDU2 on sale recently... To be fair though, I think they released three good patches for RCT3.

Nah they made some extra cars before... that you can only get by buying them with real money. And they're more often than not just ''performance versions'' or whatever of cars already in the game :V:
We will be posting a blog early next week about the status of the game and our plans. Until then you should know that we will not release a game that is not ready and are taking the time to do it right. I would also like to add that the teaser trailer was designed to show progress of the game but is not fully representative of the final game. For example, visually there is a lot of work left to do. It is as many have suspected from an early build, which we will provide more details on next week.
We will be answering that in our blog where we have the ability to give more details. That said as many have noticed the release date is now set to Mid-2015 (as seen on Steam) and as I mentioned we won't release something that is not ready. The game needs the proper time to be done right. We have a quality and visual goal to meet and we aren't there yet but we have exciting news on our next blog that we can finally share that will help us get there.
We love our community and their passion is the reason this game is going to be great when it finally comes out. The bar is high and we need to meet it.
We thank everyone for the feedback, the debates, and hope they continue but also know that early next week we will have a full post about the game, the status of it, and more info on where the teaser came from.
I will add that the teaser is indeed from an early build and the reason for it will be explained in our post. There has been a lot of work done on other aspects of the game before visuals, details in the post...
Our goal is to have amazing gameplay (which a key aspect that sets the foundation for a fun game) and has been our current focus over the last number of months but yes of course hi-res amazing visuals are critical as well and we will have those too once we are ready.
The blog is full of news and information and we want to make sure everything is confirmed 100% before its posted. Due to GDC we simply were not able to do that in time for today. I can assure you that it touches on all the major points, talks about the game, and sets up the plan for the future to assuage the comments we are seeing the community post.
So we'll just have to wait and see if they're really just fucking us around (I'm definitely waiting to buy this) or if they're being genuine at this point. I don't know what to believe
The reason why I'm calling BS that it's alpha footage is... why the fuck would they show it? Either their PR is a complete fucking moron, or this is their final work. There is absolutely no benefit in any way shape or form from showing ancient footage as your "teaser"
What came on my mind is that they actually posted this outdated video just to be approved on Steam, as they require ingame footage to be approved. And as they have no proper video ready yet, they posted this one. That may be a reason why it's not sticked on the homepage.
Though, I think I'm just being naive here...
sure, I'd like to believe that that was just very early alpha stuff and the final released game will completely blow me away
but at this point I've been fooled too many times before to trust anything
Dear RCTW Fans,
As mentioned earlier I am working on a blog post to talk about the trailer we released that was filmed using a pre-alpha version of the game and address your questions about it and the game. Unfortunately, the team has been beyond busy working on the game and although I wanted to get the post out this week, I haven’t been able to get to it…! That said, we will address your comments about the pre-alpha trailer, recent progress with the game, the engine, and the art in the game ASAP. We want to open the doors of communication to the project as quickly as possible but also want to make sure what we say is what we can stand behind.
Thanks and Best Regards,
Dear RollerCoaster Tycoon World Fans,
We have heard you, and we concur; the trailer did not show the final game and the game everyone should expect from the RCT franchise. In this blog, we’d like to clarify our intention for showing the trailer and reassure you, our most passionate fans, that making RCTW great is our top priority. We would also like to talk more about the progress being made in the game and what we’re doing next...

Regarding the current state of game graphics, we have been exploring prototypes for a while and are happy to announce we will be upgrading to the Unity 5 Engine.
That's great news.
faith slightly restored
hey everyone, i just got back from uni. the COO of frontier developments was doing a talk there, and he showed us a trailer of coaster park tycoon as part of the presentation.
looking at the trailer, the art style was like an evolution of RCT3, but definitely more developed, realistic proportions and taking advantage of the expressions system that's native to their cobra engine. there was also morphing between "states" for the visitors, which is to say, instead of having a pop up menu that showed their stats, like tiredness or anger, their body slumped or grumped about instead, on a morphing scale.
as far as i could tell, they're fully aware of how much we want a proper RCT game. i asked him whether he thought atari might try to pull something but he compared the situation to the kind of thing between battlefield and COD, there's no reason they can't co-exist.
Is it worth getting the two expansions for Roller Coaster Tycoon 2? I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to have for the game.
Is it worth getting the two expansions for Roller Coaster Tycoon 2? I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to have for the game.
the scenery that they add looks pretty out of place and iirc some of the scenarios weren't tested properly. But if you can get them for cheap then yeah
although most places you buy rct2 from now only offer rct2 + both expansions, do you have an old disc copy?
