I'm still amused at someone in this thread at some point suggested using both invis rings with dual caestus
quite possibly the most hilariously useless idea ever considering how much better the alternative would have been :v:
stuff
Probably the most egregious example for me is the Handmaid Dagger versus the Corvian Greatknife. The Greatknife is identical to the Handmaid in moveset and WA but is literally better in every way. There's exactly zero reason to ever use the Handmaid Dagger. DS2 had a plethora of sidegrades, but DS3 is riddled with weapons that are just straight up inferior to others.
DS2 Bastard Sword was the greatest thing ever for PVP. Just everything about it felt right.

The handmaid dagger restores FP with every hit, not that it's hugely useful but thats the likely reason for it being worse than the greatknife.

you can't revive the resistance meme like thissss
Now that the new game scent has worn off for a lot of people, I'll wager the dangerous opinion that I think Dark Souls 2 was my favorite once I unlearned the baby Shield & Spin2Win mechanics of DS1. I never got into the PvP side on it really, so maybe there were some really stupid things going on there, but it just felt right. And I never felt pressured towards some meta to make the game work for me (cough longswords made DS3 mostly easy for me, a bad player, cough). Dank Souls 2 was also the only one I ever ran straight into NG+ with, even on more than one run, rather than taking a break or making a new character for coop/pvp.
Dark Souls 3 just has a lot of small problems that pile up for me, and I still really enjoyed it, but I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to think about getting a PS4 purely for Bloodborne (and The Last of Us) because I need more. :v:
Raime, the Fume Knight would actually be one of my favorite bosses from the entire series if it wasn't for that Bride of Ash bullshit
You mean the the same bullshit that's easily avoidable if you take an extra little bit to actually explore around for a bit for the wedges? That bullshit?
Malcolm Reynolds is in duels currently. Apparently knows a hack that can disable movement and attack.
Do people still play Bloodborne for co-op and invasions? I'm thinking of getting a month of PS+ just to try it out.
And so we go from the Dancer to Consumed King and the Twin Princes...
...who are seriously complete bitches as bosses go, especially compared to the Dancer.
Admittedly went for the Princes first, but as cinematic and vocal as they were (which made the fight feel like it'd be special) they went down in my first try... Sure, they hit fairly hard, and the teleport move keeps you on your toes, but the timing is classic as it gets. I barely even remember the fight.
And Consumed? Again, surprised to hear a boss talking at me, and I felt sorry for him... but the guy has ONE damn trick, and that's how sudden and different his second phase is. Sure, now and then he can nail you, but that curse shit is never going to do you in, and half his attacks barrel past me (or end with me under him in a blind spot) and I have ample opportunity to scythe the shit out of his ass.
Right now just going through all the optional stuff, because I think it'll be final boss time once I add those last ashes to the throne...
I tried the kirkhammer for the first time today. The initial lack of damage was offputting right up until I chain staggered Gascoigne to death with breathtaking ease.
Hammers might have just unseated sorcery as my preferred combat style across all SoulsBorne games.

I haven't given up on my goal of getting platinum on all games, but I am probably going to switch my order to newest first.
I just noticed the Dragonslayer Armor's helmet looks like a Primordial Serpent head, long nose with flaps on the side.

Kirkhammer starts off slow, but once you beef it up it's basically a compact bullet train. It becames waaaaay better.

Of course, we must assume that a first time player:
1) Will spend his/her merry time in the Crown of the Iron King DLC exploring every nook and cranny for goodies and not running around like hell, hoping to reach the next checkpoint and opening the closest shortcut before the resident enemies turn him/her to shreds.
2) Will know in advance that the items required to break those pesky, healing statues are, in fact, hard to find and require some additional exploration (they aren't all handled to you in one go or are very hard to miss).
3) Will know in advance to save at the very least four of said items, because the final boss of the DLC, and one of the hardest of the entire game, has four of those pesky statues healing him up constantly, to the point that, in certain situations, the fight becomes a dps race you can't have any hope to win

I remember using the Stake driver. I remember that I could barely use it, that I would die again and again to dumb shit because I just didn't know when NOT to try to land a fully-charged explosion attack because holy fuck that was so much fun. I didn't care how much I died. That shit was whack.

Bloodborne managed to make nearly every weapon fun to use and super stylish, I can't even begin to tell you the disappointment I felt when DS3 went back to DS1 movesets.
Even though Bloodborne was kind of disappointing for me, I really do like the focus on the weapons being more unique from each other and in more limited numbers. DS3 has a lot of cool weapons, but there is a point where it's mostly just bloat and everything becomes kind of samey feeling.
Also why I like Nioh's weapons too. Even less weapons to choose from, but they all have interesting movesets that all feel good to use. Hoping that the next "Souls-like" From makes is more like BB or Nioh. (If they do make one, that is.)
Dark Souls 2 fills me with an unreasonable amount of salt. I can play any other game and be just fine, but Dark Souls 2 gets me absurdly mad.
I need to beat this fucking game.
Edit:
I want to beat the game but I don't know if my blood-pressure can handle the amount of rage it induces in me.
i fear for my life
Beast Claws (with beasts embrace) and the cane whip were my favourites in BB. Hunter's Axe and the Buzzsaw are good runners up
Feels really good to jump into some random popular Twitch streamer's fight club and win every single match to the end like I'm Maximus. :v:

That first fight shows very good how Ledo's hammer has a range of a short sword.
Vordt's and great mace have like twice the range while having a much smaller size.
[sp]Ga(y)el's cheesesword, really?[/sp]

Where's the "No Fun Allowed" sign when you need it :v:
Man fuck invading as Aldritch.
It's basically "Hey everybody is against you, even reds enjoy doubting every single player" and are considered "Instantly kill this guy".
You know it's fucked up when you get ganked by a mad phantom, a red and even a blue combined. And then invaders complain about hosts big advantages compared to them.
And the ds1 forest and ds2 bellkeepers are worse than Aldritch\Farron for the host. You have less reason to protect the host than do the "hero".
Edit: in general speaking. Here i am, waiting to be ganked since i got invaded by an Aldrich and Red but noo. Maybe killing each other has a better priority.

I created a character for DS2 to coop with a friend and drinking estus is PAINFULLY slow compared to DS3.
Another thing I noticed is how slow everything feels. I tried my hand at parrying and I found it really easy to learn the timings.
Then I cheesed the Pursuer by parrying him in the right spot and 2 shotting him with the ballista V:v:V
I'm disappointed that they didn't bring back Pursuer's Greatsword with an expanded moveset. Or at the very least having the Art be the Dark explosion he does now and then.
So I've gotten summoned as a blue spirit twice. Both times I just absolutely cannot find the host and they die after I run around for ages trying to find them. What's the deal?
I fully agree. There's no "It's not as good as the other weapons but with other rewards." with Dark Souls 3. It's either really good or unusuable.

Probably the most egregious example for me is the Handmaid Dagger versus the Corvian Greatknife.
There are countless others, too. There are weapons in DS3 so obscure and useless that I'd not be surprised if most players didn't even know they existed.
The Harpe, for instance. Another super rare drop from the Undead Settlement enemies. It looks cool and takes ages to get... But Is literally just a really crappy dagger type weapon that is outclassed by practically every other weapon in its class. Even the Handmaid Dagger at least has the fast weapon art and restores FP, for all the good that does. You know your weapon is garbage when the Handmaid Dagger is more useful.
And what about the Heavy Crossbow? That item is used by literally one, single enemy. One who is out of the way and tucked into a corner, and the crossbow itself has a low drop rate. So what do you get for going out of your way to obtain this crossbow...?
A worse version of the Arbelast, a weapon you can find on the floor literally a few meters away from the Heavy Crossbow enemy.
And that's to say nothing of the Sniper Crossbow. This thing even has unique animations this time around! And yet even with the most powerful bolts in the game, at full upgrade level, this crossbow is literally not worth using. It's heavy, it's cumbersom, it's slower when used with one hand (which is the only advantage Crossbows have over regular bows to begin with) and offers no interesting mechanics, nothing of value and has no reason to exist.
And then you have weapons that, when used by enemies, are great. But that turn into rubbish the moment we get our hands on them. Like the (improperly named) Soldering Iron, which makes it impossible to use estus and increases your encumbrance when used by the Jailers, and has a unique grab attack that can end your life very quickly. But for us? It's got some of the worst damage of any weapon, an easily parryable weapon art, and it's one unique feature - the "Estus Disable" brand - lasts such a pitiful amount of time that it's not worth the trouble during invasions. And because it doesn't increase carry weight when we use it, there's no point taking it to the Arena, either.
Bloodlust? This sword should be the katana to use for bleed builds. But no, it does awful damage, inflicts bleed on the user during its weapon buff and you'd get better results using practically any other katana and a Bleed infusion/Carthus rouge/the base stats. Bloodlust's only use is to reduce your own health for "one-shot" builds, and that's little more than a gimmick.
Pontiff Knight's Great-Scythe is outclassed by pretty much every other scythe tier weapon in the game as well as being another super rare drop from a single enemy. Not that the actual Great-Scythe itself is much to write home about. The Heretic's Staff has no aspects that make it better than the other staffs outside slightly more range when using the Farron Flashsword (and, again, there are other long staffs that are better for that.) The Brigand Twindaggers are the only weapon of their kind, have a unique moveset and should be great for bleed, poison or ramp-up builds, but deal so little damage and have zero range. The Zweihander, the Falchion, the Scimitar, the Carthus Shotel (and the normal Shotel).... The list goes on and on...
Can i say that i wanted the flame fan to be a real weapon but not a spell?
I just screwed myself from Dragon Bone Smasher by getting blown up by dynamite mine carts while in body form.
Guess I'll stick to crushing claymore/zwei.
