Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread XIII. The Ringed City

Okay I have had enough.
[sp]I CANNOT BEAT MIDIR!
I get them to 30 percent health, and then I run out of estus because of all the undodgeable unblockable AOE fire and slashes. If it had a third less defense I wouldn't be so mad. It would also be nice if I didn't have to spend 2/3rds of the fight just chasing them instead of actually fighting like every dragon boss in the series. [/sp]

[sp]The fire is blockable. I used an upgraded black knight shield and took minimal damage on NG+3. Also, not sure what you're doing if you're chasing him so much? He moves around about as much as Kalameet outside of his one long charge/flail attack.[/sp]
God damn, Champion Gundyr is a BOSS!
I'd heard of this one, but I didn't expect the total recreation of the starting area.
Absolutely BEASTLY just how aggressive he is with his new moveset. Literally the only way I could work in ANY shots was with rolling attacks. Roll right into his body with every strike, and get off the rolling attack at the instant between.
Actually, when I could manage this inside his combos, it was surprising how short the fight became. With that strategy, you start racking up damage on him like crazy. The problem is, it only takes one solid fuckup to put you on the ropes. That, and you're a lot more susceptible to his "bitch please" kick, which he's graciously added his own air-juggling combo that hits so hard I died twice to that alone.
Honestly though? Damn good fight. I'd complain about how unforgiving it is that his openings are so few, but kinda like how Pontiff is nearly impossible without exploiting his parrying weakness, the rolling attacks are too damned effective NOT to be essentially the gimmick of the fight. Maybe it's because I'm using a scythe and it's slower, but that's my take anyway.
You can parry the champion. Makes the fight a literal joke.
You can parry the champion. Makes the fight a literal joke.
He never learned to two hand his weapon.
It's too bad Gundyr's halberd didn't include his kick and shoulder bash as part of its moveset.
Gundyr's halberd could have been an interesting one. Sad to see the same halberd moveset but just his phase 2 initial attack. Wanted either his kick\shoulder charge or the halberd launcher.
They should've let you grow an arm of pure darkness like during the first fight with Gundyr as the weapon art. Imagine the panic when something like that just sprouts out of your opponent's arm during a heated PvP fight.

I'd prefer a weapon that is just darkness arms. Something akin to kos parasite in Bloodborne.
more mutations ala dragon form and things from bloodborne would be very cool

You're honestly doing yourself a massive disservice if you don't have at least a +4 black knight shield in your inventory.
It's probably the single most useful shield in the game, it can do just about everything, from blocking the fire spam of a bridge drake to tanking against basically everything with its huge stability stat
but then you dodgeroll and realize its just another shitty gimmick weapon art that does nothing
As someone who doesn't care for the meta and just use whatever I fancy, gimmicky weapons are fun to use.
[editline]20th April 2017[/editline]
Also makes it all the more satisfying when you kill someone with it.

style over efficiency

I need this
Oh, that new Bamco Nandai game is what the God Eater team has been working on.
Even though they already announced they would be working on GE3.
That tagline is really obvious now.
You want to know what I feel is underappreciated? The build up to Vendrick. (You probably all know this already, but I'm going to [sp] this anyway cause I want to.)
[sp]Throughout the game you're told that Vendrick is the biggest badass of all time and that you have to find him if you want to find a cure for the curse, become the next king, or what have you. (Kind of like Gwyn) So when you finally beat all the Great Ones and make it all the way through Drangleic Castle, SoA, the Crypt, to finally face Velstadt, the last obstacle in your way to the king. Velstadt himself is already a big dick G, so just imagine of how much of badass motherfucker Vendrick is going to be if Velstadt was his personal guard.
When you finally make it to Vendrick, there's no big flashy cutscene, no health bar appears, and there isn't even a fog door. All there is a naked, mindless hollow wondering around aimlessly while somber music plays in the background. After all you heard about Vendrick being the strongest guy ever, he's nothing now but a hollow shell of his former self. Even Gwyn had more dignity than that. Even later when they made it so you can meet him in the past, you can tell that he's already given up everything and accepts his fate. The only thing left he can do is pass down the knowledge of the four crowns, in hopes that you can put it to better use than he did.[/sp]
I'm not sure about you guys, but that was honestly one of my favorite moments in these games.

I actually like the build-up to Vendrick. In fact I do like DS2's story in general, I just can't quite put a finger on how it fits into the grand scheme of Dark Souls. It feels like its own story, so tying that into the lore is kind of tricky outside of "This comes after DS1 and before DS3." That and the only NPC quests I liked were Lucatiel, that cleric lady, and Pate. I haven't played it for a while and I don't have Scholar of the First Sin edition.
That tagline is really obvious now.
It surprisingly has nothing to do with God Eater, it's straight up an action RPG with vampires v demons
DS2's story really feels like a sub-plot, which isn't necessarily bad. It just focuses on other aspect about the Dark Souls lore than DS1 or DS3.
I was expecting that build up to get to that result because it's the same thing as DS1.
I mean, you have DS1 + 3's story which seems to focus on the different ages and the cycles. DS2's story, on the other hand, actually delves into humanity's place in the universe, and what their role is. It's charming, in it's own way, if only because it's a question that no one is really able to answer.

Muh merge.

Unfortunately it eats it because randomly throughout, they seem to think that making things arbitrarily connected to the first game is a good idea.

99 Luck
If that's not an actual attack in cyber souls (pls from) I will be very disappointed.

The anime aesthetic ruins it for me, I'm gonna' have to pass.

Yeah, overall it seems pretty generic to me and the general aesthetic almost reminds me of a weeaboo Prototype.
