Behold, Guns of the Patriots!
You want to know what I feel is underappreciated? The build up to Vendrick. (You probably all know this already, but I'm going to [sp] this anyway cause I want to.)
[sp]Throughout the game you're told that Vendrick is the biggest badass of all time and that you have to find him if you want to find a cure for the curse, become the next king, or what have you. (Kind of like Gwyn) So when you finally beat all the Great Ones and make it all the way through Drangleic Castle, SoA, the Crypt, to finally face Velstadt, the last obstacle in your way to the king. Velstadt himself is already a big dick G, so just imagine of how much of badass motherfucker Vendrick is going to be if Velstadt was his personal guard.
When you finally make it to Vendrick, there's no big flashy cutscene, no health bar appears, and there isn't even a fog door. All there is a naked, mindless hollow wondering around aimlessly while somber music plays in the background. After all you heard about Vendrick being the strongest guy ever, he's nothing now but a hollow shell of his former self. Even Gwyn had more dignity than that. Even later when they made it so you can meet him in the past, you can tell that he's already given up everything and accepts his fate. The only thing left he can do is pass down the knowledge of the four crowns, in hopes that you can put it to better use than he did.[/sp]
I'm not sure about you guys, but that was honestly one of my favorite moments in these games.
dude I loved that motherfucker.
Especially with the somber as all fucking piano music in the background
Yeah, overall it seems pretty generic to me and the general aesthetic almost reminds me of a weeaboo Prototype.
The art style is just ugly. Bad outfit designs, generic anime art style for the characters, and comically oversized God Eater-style weapons.
I don't think they thought the mix of semi-realistic clothing rendering with cel-shaded skin through very well with that hat.
As much as I like god eater, fuck me it's an ugly series
Maybe it's just because I was doing Monster Hunter long before, but I couldn't get into God Eater at all. It felt like a bad Chinese knock-off. Was there something I was missing?
http://imgur.com/a/sldnI
holy shit this looks hilarious
hahaha
It looks like a remastered version of S4 League.
I was expecting that build up to get to that result because it's the same thing as DS1.
True, but I feel the moment with Gwyn didn't hit as hard as Vendrick since he still attacks you and still has some spring to his step. Vendrick is just plain hollowed and naked. He doesn't attack you on sight and you don't actually have to fight him. I also feel the addition of being able to meet him in the past to talk also made the moment even better.
Idk, Gwyn had more of an impact for me cuz he is the god of the universe and it showed how scared he was. Vendrick is basically just a dude who got lucky and became a big hotshot 'til he got screwed over.
It probably would have had much more of an impact on me if I didn't see it coming from a mile away.
I mean, you have DS1 + 3's story which seems to focus on the different ages and the cycles. DS2's story, on the other hand, actually delves into humanity's place in the universe, and what their role is. It's charming, in it's own way, if only because it's a question that no one is really able to answer.

Muh merge.
It always seemed to me that DS1 was how the cycle starts, DS2 was about trying to break it, and DS3 was how it ends. That helps DS2 fit into the overall story in my mind at least

no it's pretty much monster hunter on sony but with the benefit of jiggle physics and thighighs so in all honesty this new game has at least something to interest me
I just used the Caestus for the first time outside of parrying. How could I have been so blind? How could I have wasted so much time?

I have a new life to lead gents. My eyes have been truly opened.
If there's one reason why a demon's souls remaster would be good it's so that the controls aren't so delayed.
Dark Souls II has an interesting lore, no doubts, but doesn't have any story to speak of.
It's just you going around doing stuff at random because the developers said so.
Also, the confrontation with [sp]Vendrick[/sp] is ruined by the fact there is not even as much as a cutscene to present you such an important figure and, should you actually decide to fight him, the whole thing is a fucking marathon with the boss throwing at you the same two or three attacks (which you have seen an hundreds time with other bosses).
The two times I actually died were because I was getting rather bored and wanted the fight to end faster by playing a bit more aggressively
I like DS2 atmosphere. I also appreciate the effort of making npcs having their own moveset despite being unfinished.
Also Lucatiel's story is deep considering the theme of the game.
It does make you rethink about the Moundmakers and Hodrick too.
I liked DS2's story for how it just sort of fit in. It wasnt at some pivotal story point like DS1 or DS3, it just took place in the same world. It could have taken place any time, after any number of cycles after the first one, it didnt matter. It was a story within the world, and I like when media does that, a story that takes place in a larger world and has deeper meaning, but isnt necessarily THE END ALL BE ALL story.
It was also weirdly dreamlike and vague about a lot of stuff, and I really liked the weird ethereal "This doesnt make sense logically but I'll go with it" vibe a lot of the zones had.
I can see why people dislike stuff like this, but I enjoyed it at least

But that's the point though? You don't need a cutscene of someone like Emerald Herald or Aldia to tell you since the music and visuals alone tell you everything. He's built up as this important figure that you have to confront, but when you finally do, he's nothing but a shambling husk, wandering aimlessly that you can just ignore completely.
He's also not suppose to be this grand epic fight like Gwyn or the Lords of Cinder. He's nothing but a hollow and fights like one too. If they gave him this amazing moveset where he's doing flips and shit, it would ruin the tone of the encounter. Whether you enjoyed the fight or not is mostly down to taste (and that's fine), but I feel it was appropriate for the tone.
Would deep gem & blind mask be viable for low level pvp?
what level are you boys at around Lothric Castle? I'm around 65 and can't tell if I'm overlevelled or not
Vendrick is the only character that i actually used bleed in ds2 :v:
I miss the memories.
So I've only ever played DS3 and I have to say I am very confused by the world, despite how much I've played.
Have people always been undead or going hollow? Are there any normal humans? Why do some people die and others don't (permanently)? Is it safe to assume all these castles like Lothric had once been budding places of normal life full of citizens and such?
Also people have sex still, right? With all these never dying husks and all are people just created or are they birthed?
I guess my biggest problem is I keep wrapping everything around how real life works.

from what I gathered the curse doesn't affect everyone at once (and nobody's ever said what initiates it for a specific person), so in all the other lands you hear about like Catarina and such society is still intact and they just boot out all their cursed undead to the shithole hollow realms like Lordran or they end up being drawn to them for cursey reasons like Drangleic/maybe Lothric
[editline]20th April 2017[/editline]
in the end none of them really matter cuz none of the cataclysmic flame-linking bullshit happens in any of those lands so it could be argued that the shithole hollow realms are the real hip places to be and the rest of the world is just along for the ride

You have no clue how much you've opened my eyes. That makes everything so much easier to understand.

basically all of that info comes from 1 and 2 so you should give those a go. why'd you start with 3 you basketball that's not the first number

It is if you're counting down! :vs:

The [sp]dragon aerie and dragon shrine[/sp] almost made the shitty parts of das2 worth it.
That whole sequence was really really great.
Shrine of amana was also a beautiful location, shame it was probably the second worst area in the game.

the first time I got to shrine of amana and heard the poignant singing, I thought I'd reached the end of the game and my several freshly torn new rectums were going to be cared for and soothed. then the soul spears started and I had an out of body experience
-I'm a nice guy-
