the easiest way to shut down lightning arrow is being close enough to counterattack them. If you're too far away to hit them with an R1 / running attack, you need to time your rolls so that they can't catch you
Even sprinting left or right is enough for the arrow to miss.

No new content. This is just a bundle. No hopes for NG+ enemy content, blue orb or such.

I dont think we can step on the firekeeper's face right now though
I dont think we can step on the firekeeper's face right now though
Uh you can. I'll just spoiler tag since it's ending
[sp] Summon the firekeeper after Soul of Cinder, cutscene happens of her doing things, there's a brief moment when the screen is getting dark that you have the option to attack her (kicking does nothing). Doing that will get you the cutscene of your character stepping on her face. It is a pure Demon's Souls reference[/sp]
i don't like to bitch about weapons but am I the only one thinking that the new lightning arrow miracle needs some sort of slight nerf?
the damage is alright, but there's something about just how much it can get spammed downrange
idk I feel like that's all that any faith user kills me with anymore. I'm not seeing lightning stake anywhere near as much
Punishing spell spammers is so easy to do like I'm amazed anyone even dies from spells
I just wish that spell users didn't have to stick to the meta bullshit and could just pick any spell and have it work when used correctly, rather than just being bullet-time-slow compared to weapons
I can't punish chugging like I could in ds2 anymore with spells.
Since you mention chugging, that's one thing I feel DS2 did right. You could replenish your HP pretty quick, but it wasn't instant, and if you took any damage while recovering, you would stop regenerating. You could actually punish people for making bad moves, which is nigh-impossible in DS3.

For me it's how boring is to fight casters compared to ds2. The strategy is pretty much the same, so i end up falling asleep.
Pyromancers get a better deal if the opponent is somebody that doesn't use fast weapons because of Fire Surge. The fan spell is not even meant to be aggressive since it's as slow as the flash farron sword on startup, just a roll catcher.
I feel the lack miracle spells like Blinding Light (despite being terrifying) really removes any sense of tension. Sorceries wise, nobody uses Crystal Hail even if it got buffed because it's still bad. Seething Chaos is useless outside of brawls\ganks i guess but it doesn't matter since Brawl is a shooting fest. Floating Chaos is bad, bursting fireball is bad. The firestorm\chaos tempest is outrageously bad or underrated. I miss Outcry and Fire Dance.

every time I hit someone in DS3 with no health who chugs, I end up hitting through the heal, not what they had but what the heal causes
then in ds2 since its a gradual heal, you hit through what they have during the heal, meaning you can pretty much just kill them immediately if you're fast enough because they didn't get it all immediately. It was great.
Now spell-based invasions are fucking impossible. No more soul shower punishing. Even a weak ass spell like soul shower worked great in ds2 because you could pretty much snipe someone with a near-undodgable attack. On its own it was garbage but used like that its insane.
Estus should really be used smartly, rather than being an artificial extension of health.

The DLC added some decent pryomancies
when it comes to sorcery in ds2 VS ds3, the tactics are the same to counter it, however the speed isn't in tune with the fighting which means that you can't surprise people like you could in ds2, and the variations of spells aren't quite as strong either

If you ask me, Sorcery needs a major buff. Or at least, most of the spells do. I remember that for a little while during the early, early days when the game had only been out a while, Homing Crystal Soulmass and Crystal Soul Spear were part of the "meta". But nobody uses those anymore, or any sorcery really.
I tried making a pure Sorc build a few days ago for PvP; 60 int, Court Sorcerer's Staff, all the good sorc spells, ect... And good lordy was it abysmal. All the Sorcery spells are so damn slow and easy to dodge, and the tracking is just awful on them. The Dark Sorcery spells are even worse: Sure, they're "homing" technically. But they move at such a slow crawl that it's almost impossible to hit another player with them unless they're distracted. For 1v1 PvP, or even just PvP where your opponent is locked on and attacking you, most of the Sorcery spells are garbage.
Not counting the weapon and shield buffs, the only ones that are in any way useful are Crystal Homing Soulmass/Affinity, the Soul Spear spells, Soul Greatsword/Old Moonlight, Farron Flashsword, Dark Edge and Snap Freeze. The rest? Almost useless in PvP, in my experience.
The Soul Arrow spells are okay, but still suffer from the same "too slow and easy to dodge" problem. The Farron Dart and Great Farron dart are better at hitting, but deal so little damage that they're basically not worth using. Farron Hail has no tracking, leaves you wide open for attack and doesn't even deal much damage. Crystal Hail is again far too damn slow and easy to dodge, and while it tracks a bit, I can never seem to hit anybody with it. White Dragon's Breath takes forever to cast, doesn't track and requires a massive Int investment. Same goes for Soul Stream. Then you have the Golden Sorceries which are almost unanimously useless in PvP, and the Deep Soul spells are probably the easiest to dodge of the lot.
Compared to Pyromancy and Miracles, Sorcery just kinda... Sucks... And that's with the other two magic schools also having their fair-share of garbage. I swear I must have tried to make Holy Pillars of Light viable like 10 times now, and I don't think I've ever even seen somebody get hit by Profane Flame. Then there are spells that are so useless and obscure that friggen' nobody uses them, like Dead Again and Twisted Wall of Light.
What baffles me the most is that in DS2 we had heaps of really cool magic!
What the hell happened to all the really awesome spells from that game!? Where are the Homing Soul Arrow spells, or Shockwave? Not to mention the really cool stuff like Soul Vortex and Soul Geyser!?
I mean, c'mon, look at this stuff... What happened to those spells? I want them back! We also had better Pyromancy and Miracles in that game. And way, way better Hexes.
Lingering Flame, Immolation, Dance of Fire, Heavenly Thunder, Blinding Bolt, Splintering Lightning Spear...
Pretty much all the Hexes from DS2...
They really fucked the Magic side of Dark-Souls in the last game, and it's saddening because I love magic builds.
I miss Immolation. It was one of the best spells to finish someone. Imagine combining with Kirk set.
I'm baffled they outright removed many things. Oh well, that's From for you.
I think the speed and damage of Lightning Arrow is fine but I think the hit stagger needs to be tuned down. It's a huge stagger for such a spammable spell. I don't mind being staggered by it but I shouldn't be staggered long enough for them to ready and fire a second arrow.
how can you say Pyromancy is good when it suffers from even worse problem than Sorcery - namely spells being uninteresting, not really varied, and slow as hell?
Playing through Ringed City again and holy fucking shit I'm dumb and blind. HOW did I not notice that [sp]The Demon Prince boss arena is Dark Souls 1's Firelink shrine.[/sp] I mean the first time I felt like the area was familiar, and I at first made the assumption that it was the ruins of the Old Chaos from DS2 because of the long drop, but then debunked that when I compared images of the two. Kinda funny to think that [sp]A boss fight takes place in that peaceful little hub where the Crestfallen sits on his ass all day and Frampt sleeps while waiting for you.[/sp]
I wonder if there are other returning ruined areas in the Ringed City that I missed...excluding the very obvious one.

wait wat
wait wat
It took me a second time to notice all the details outside [sp]but the way out being through frampt's little hole deal was pretty distinct even without the statue and chest.[/sp]
It took me a second time to notice all the details outside [sp]but the way out being through frampt's little hole deal was pretty distinct even without the statue and chest.[/sp]
[sp]I thought there was an empty chest back there? Maybe I'm mis-remembering. Though I'm surprised people wouldn't recognize Frampt's hidey-hole immediately.[/sp]
I actually thought of [sp]Firelink Shrine[/sp] during the boss encounter, but I thought it was just a coincidence and was just fooling myself.
It's hard to notice at first but it's clear [sp] after you get the banner that it is Firelink. If you look around the arena, there's even the well. [/sp]
how can you say Pyromancy is good when it suffers from even worse problem than Sorcery - namely spells being uninteresting, not really varied, and slow as hell?
While I'll certainly agree that the "good" Pyromancy spells aren't very interesting, they're still a hell of a lot more reliable than the Sorcery spells.
Chaos Bed Vestiges, Great Chaos Fire Orb, Dark Serpent and Dark Flame are all pretty simple spells, but they're also very good on both damage and tracking as well as having really fast cast speeds. Chaos Bed Vestiges in particular has a massive hitbox and deals huge damage on a dedicated Pyro build.
Contrast with Soul Spear and Crystal Soul Spear, which could be seen as the "Equivalent" to Chaos Bed Vestiges: Very slow, obvious cast time, slow moving projectile, smaller hitbox.
In DS1 and 2, the Soul Spear spells were good because they would penetrate through enemies and the slower movements and combat systems made them actually viable in PvP. But in DS3, we can roll for days and the lockon mechanics seem to aim spells slightly downward for some reason, so the Spear spells usually slam straight into the floor when they hit (That is, if they hit)
Ultimately, I think it comes down to speed: Pyromancy and Miracles seem to be faster, on average, than Sorcery and can deal just as much damage with the right stats. But Sorcery spells all have super long, drawn out and easy to punish cast times, and horrendous tracking. In a game where dodging has been made exponentially more effective, this just doesn't cut it for PvP.
You know magic is royally fucked in DaS3 when you have to use both magic boosting ring to deal better than mediocre damage.

hey limitbreakers has now exhaustively proved with his videos that magic builds are very viable both at low and high levels.

I just had Midir stare angrily at me from across the map before teleporting instantaneously next to me and killing me with one hit from his tail.
This boss just really does not like me. :(
