[QUOTE=PotatoArmada;52155473]If it was the ds4 then steam probably set it up as a steam controller and it defaulted to really wonky controls. I had to disable that feature on steam.[/QUOTE] the thing is, when i had it plugged in, the camera was spinning nonstop also for some reason pressing down on the right control stick was the button to open the menu
To use a ds4 controller you gotta use a special program like ds4windows or something similar. I've been using the ps4 controller for a while now and it's great.
For the ps4 controller you need to download ds4windows. Select the hide controller check box in the settings. That or use an xbox controller it should be plug and play.

Ninja [editline]27th April 2017[/editline] I've got ds4windows to auto launch. I think if you launch it with steam running you get clashes.
Friede & Ariandel is the only encounter in recent memory that is requiring more than ten attempts for me to beat. I switched from Dragon's Tooth to Dragonslayer's Greataxe, and I am able to get into the third phase consistently, but Blackflame Friede is proving to be quite the obstacle. I just can't see many opportunities to safely land hits with heavy weapons, if at all. By the time I get into the third phase, my estus is nearly depleted. I have tried using lightning weapon buffs as well as focusing mostly on Father Ariandel in the second phase. While I do more damage with the axe, landing hits in the third phase is challenging due to lack of horizontal reach. I don't use shields and I am trying to beat every boss without using coop summons. Are there any additional things I can try? I am honestly considering holding off until I can get Ledo's Greathammer, even though I will likely be overleveled by that point.
Freeze is easy to send flying with heavy weapons
[QUOTE=teshok;52155566]Freeze is easy to send flying with heavy weapons[/QUOTE] Yeah. When I manage to land blows, I can stagger her almost indefinitely. I guess I'll have to buckle down and git gud.
You need to be patient during the third phase. You can jump behind her and backstab her when she does her high jumps straight in the air. Also, she will start charging an attack after she goes invisible which is a good opportunity to get a charged R2 attack on her. It's right after she casts the two ground ice things at you.
Lol autocorrect I meant freide. I use wither Lathrop ugs or cathedral knight ugs and charge a R2 into her face. You can time it as she runs at you.
And when in doubt, Gael is a good distraction for the 2nd and 3rd phase of the fight.

My underlying problem with my playstyle is that I am tempted most of the time to just trade hits and have damage and poise enable me to brute force my way to victory, but I often end up getting punished by more agile opponents who are significantly quicker. This will probably be the hard lesson needed to apply more discipline between offensive and defensive. Hopefully I can apply that to not being terrible at PvP.
Man the Xbox One controller is pretty shit, not something I would recommend to anyone looking for a Dark Souls gamepad
I haven't had any negative experiences with the Xbone controller, it has served me well so far
My XB1 controller works well for me. It's no 360 controller, but it's close enough. Better D-pad than the 360's pathetic excuse for one, that's for damn sure.
For controllers either the steam controller or pro u controller (wii U + PC mayflash adaptor) is really the best tbh for the steampad you get a more comfortable level of control with the grips that are seperate from the rest of the thing, and the ProU you get an unbelievably sturdy tank with a nuclear core for a battery [editline]27th April 2017[/editline] the ProU pretty much makes the xbone feel like cheap mass produced garbage
DS4 or KB+M for life. or racing wheel
I got a new avatar of best boy [sp]now if only the 200 kb limit didn't make me butcher the quality[/sp] :v:

Since I got the PS4 for Bloodborne I've been using that controller for both games and the buttons feel way better. Only thing is sometimes my finger wants to naturally fall on this rough lip that L2 sits in and it leaves a mark if you grip it there.
Imagine a dark souls game but you can jump And I mean jump Like I'm saying jump like Friede. I mean you got leaps like Dragoons. [editline]27th April 2017[/editline] Hops like Mike

If your character could jump, Dark Souls II main progression would be over [I]extremely quickly[/I]
[QUOTE=DeVotchKa;52157072]You sorta can [sp]with Weapon Arts :v:[/sp][/QUOTE] I don't think these really let you phyisically jump over obstacles or ledges, though
[QUOTE=NitronikALT;52157129]I don't think these really let you phyisically jump over obstacles or ledges, though[/QUOTE] They don't. Only changes the hitbox during attacks. Try doing the Onislayer weapon art :v:
Using any other weapons than the heaviest you can carry with 40 poise is absolutely useless (especially rapiers). You can get one or two hits in but its just a matter of time until you get either parried or stunlocked to death.

Better D-pad than the 360's pathetic excuse for one, that's for damn sure.[/QUOTE] My Xbone controller is brand new and I even took it back for exchange for another one so I tried a total of two controllers, both have the problem of the Dpad not being sticky when you press downward [quote][vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/lvluwi.webm[/vid][/quote] It's a shame because I actually prefer Xbox controllers for the layout. I didn't bother taking my 2nd controller in for exchange again so I took it apart, the Dpad circuit board works fine but the button itself has a new wonky design in place of traditional rubber padding. I think the 'not being able to press downward issue' actually stems from the Dpad button's nub (for pressing on the circuit board) being asymmetrical: the downward nub is smaller for some reason. I'm thinking it might work out if I swap out for a third-party Dpad button [editline]28th April 2017[/editline] You have no idea how infuriating it is when it skips item when you're trying to scroll to the Estus Flask or Black Firebomb in the Undead Arena [editline]28th April 2017[/editline] Even more frustrating when I tried to look up this problem on Google and the one thread on Reddit with the same problems are filled with shills saying 'this never happened to me before'
That's really odd, I do not have that issue myself. Could it be something else than the controller? [editline]27th April 2017[/editline] I tested it on that site and there's no similar issue on my end at the very least, so I don't know what to tell you there.
That site isn't relevant, its just easier to demonstrate the problem there
if you want to jump you could always have 2 invaders launch you with a great bow that'd totally work :v: [editline]27th April 2017[/editline] Tbh I kind of wish that they would add a jumping ring slightly better jump but it only works when at % carry weight as the balance this way you could run away and leap to safety combine for cat ring for legendary escapes
Imagine a spear with a WA that makes you do one of those olympic pole vaults
