Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread XIII. The Ringed City

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh my god... in the time between that post, and booting the game again and gearing up to try... I just beat the shit out of the Dancer. The boss that discouraged me so much, I stopped playing and beat the entirety of the FIRST game instead before finally coming back to it... and I just trivialized her at WAY lower than intended level.
Looked up her weaknesses, noticed she's neutral to magic, but weak to dark.
Literally only have ONE dark attack, "Deep Soul." Even so, equipped it, pulled out the Izalith staff and waded into combat.
And I kicked her ass the first try...
Christ that felt good. All I was doing was pot shots now and then, using the pillars to block her worst stuff and just maintain distance. Had to use most of my flasks even with this strategy, but she really has almost NO answer to ranged attacks save for a couple charge moves and the whirlygig, and if you run for the columns you can pretty easily escape that.
Call it a cheese if you want, but I did my time man, and I still did it solo so bleh! *raspberries*
I just threw black fire orbs at her until she died.

Plunging attack

The most reliable move in the game! Of course!
Just finished a playthrough as a Pyromancer. Now I'm eager to try out a pure strength build with no magic.
Any suggestions for a good Greatsword build?
I don't know how late I am, but if you're going balls to the wall with strength, you will want to at least give great hammers a try.
Both the club and the reinforced club are excellent weapons to tide you over until you can get your first true great hammer. The great club and vordt's great hammer both hit very hard, make extensive use of hyper armor, and can blast through tougher enemies with frightening ease.
Killing knights becomes trivial as you can just hammer away through their guard until they get staggered, which you can then use to follow up with a critical strike to do even more damage. NPC invaders are also very easy to deal with. Keep them at arms length while you chain stagger them until death with multiple hits. Big bosses and giants can be slammed repeatedly until they fold up and die. In short, the bigger it is, the harder it falls.
Not to mention the enormous amount of hyper armor you can get for simply swinging. You can punch through any lighter weapon attacks and do so reasonably often even with the heavier attacks (except for another great hammer).
Your only real difficulty will be agile human sized enemies or actual player invaders, but you can deal with both by being patient with your swings and attacks. If you two hand great hammers, you will never be parried.

Counterpoint for using Great Mace/Vordt's Great Hammer instead:

Even after the nerf, this skill is killer.
In any case, my best advice for a pure strength build is to gun for minimum dex requirements, and 66 strength, paired with a Heavy infusion if viable. Then, you can stack vigour, vitality and endurance with your remaining stats to make yourself into a tank. This makes pretty much any strength based weapon viable in both PvP and PvE because then you'll be dealing massive amounts of damage as well as tanking hits like a champ.
My current build is a strength setup, actually. It's the one I showcased in my last video using the Cathedral Knight Greatsword (which, if I'm not mistaken, has the same moveset as the Greatsword)
Stats, if you want em:
Class: Knight
SL: 130
Vig: 40
Att: 10
End: 40
Vit: 26
Str: 66
Dex: 12
Int: 9
Fai: 9
Luc: 7
Keep in mind you can sacrifice some of the Vit stats to get your Dex up to required level for whichever weapon you plan to smash people with, or just equip Hunters Ring and/or Carthus Milkring to boost it up appropriately.
In terms of actual combat though, for strength builds remember that two factors are crucially important: Timing and Spacing.
Your attacks will be slow, and most strength weapons can be a bit flunky on the hitboxes, so close distance and try to attack people as they come out of rolls or as they start their own attacks. Usually, if you're facing a faster weapon, you'll be able to hyper-armour through their attacks and win the damage trade. A lot of the strength swords (Greatsword, Fume Ultra-Greatsword and Cathedral Knight Greatsword, at least, maybe others) have a "backswing" attack followup after their first R1 hit when two-handing. Use this to your advantage against flighty builds who try to scoot around your attacks because it can and will catch people out.
Also, don't be afraid to 1-hand to get the sweeping attacks on these weapons, the drop in damage will often be worth the increased scope of attack, especially against weakened enemies who are playing it light and fast and trying to dodge your attacks. Another good tactic is to mix up your attack timings: Don't just mash R1, wait a brief moment here and there to change your timings and mix in some R2s or Weapon Arts to mix up your pattern, making your attacks too predictable is a recipe for death.
Lastly, remember what can and can't be parried: 1-handed attacks and rolling attacks can be parried, but two handed attacks with "Great" weapons can't. Be careful when facing people with cestus/parrying shields because they'll be hunting for these moves, don't let them catch you out.
Two deaths back to back with Blackflame Friede having a tiny sliver of health left.
:suicide:
That just means you're getting better. Keep it up.
I'm heading into Old Yharnam after beating Vicar Amelia (I feel lame again because I summoned the nearby NPC hunter to help me) and I haven't found any new weapons yet. Do they not give you new weapons very often or are they well hidden?
There arent really that many weapons in the game to begin with. I can only think of maybe 3 or 4 mainhand weapons you get beyond that point and maybe 2 or 3 guns. Most of the weapons you get later in the game are gimmicky and not very good, imo. I think the Beast Claws are good, but they a little annoying to get.

If you have the DLC though, try and get the Whirligig Saw if you can, its probably the best strength weapon in the game.
And thus the vicious cycle continues.
I personally don't care what reds do. Being an Aldrich is a fun challenge to see how many dudes you can kill before you finally get to the host. If I have to slap a few disorderly reds in the face to do it, then fine by me. :v:
[editline]27th April 2017[/editline]
For me the issue of not having fun as Aldritch is that you become too distrustful and you end up making the host's life easy. When a red helps a host with his 3 white phantoms, kills me, taunts and as soon he does that, he gets killed.
I don't mind if i find fight clubs but most of the times when it's different it becomes so obnoxious.
Find a host that never attacks, just keep rolling and dodging while waits for the typical random invader to feel all mighty that wants to kill everyone. Then find hosts who will alt+f4 after 10 minutes of chasing and reactive play.
Damn how the times have changed.

That fucking pile of rubble in Dark Souls 2.
I think I may have started NG+ a bit late on my Solaire-cosplay.

That, or Iudex is still a tutorial boss indeed. :v:

Iudex doesn't have much HP, even in his second phase, and his attacks are very slow and easy to dodge. Especially if you've fought him once/multiple times before. Even on NG+3 he's pretty easy.
Plus his weakness to fire and super obvious parry timing makes him even more of a breeze for experienced players. He's definitely a "tutorial" boss.

Tbh if you're doing a Solaire or Havel Cosplay and aren't using their full gear you're just lame as fuck lmao

Oh shit you're right. I respecced some of my stuff and tried it out on invasions and went Rosaria's Fingers because I have around 100 Sunlight Medals (that are useless to me now) and forgot to change back :v:
I have sinned and I deserve that 1/10.
That Sir Bot'c likely went in search of a cure to the curse, or at least a way to null its effects once it has already happened as shown by the crown's effects on already hollowed.
Well, I guess he didnt find one :(
Well, I guess he didnt find one :(
the Unkindled are likely the result of his and Aldia's research though, hollowing seems to work differently for them and one of the endings in DS3 [sp]has you (an Unkindled) harness the first flame and the dark soul at the same time, like Aldia said you had to do to break the curse[/sp]

I'm gonna assume the DLC takes place after the main story of Bloodborne? I'll wait and see if I can beat the original game first before I dive into buying more for this game.

Storywise it's actually more of a mishmash of stuff that happens before the main story, but it's endgame content that's very good. If you beat the game and want more, it's a great expansion and you can use a high leveled character to play it (as long as you don't go into NG+).
Well like I said, I'll see how far I get and if I can actually beat the game. Every time I fire up this game it's a roller coaster of hating this game and "never playing it again!" to progressing ahead and loving it once more.
Reminds me that I'm stuck in Nightmare of Mensis.
Is there a recommended level for this or am I just going to have to suck it up and deal with the constant frenzy and Silverbeasts who can two-shot me? [sp]and also shoot out worms when they die just to add the extra fuck me?[/sp]

Once you get inside you dont really have to deal with the frenzy anymore, and the silverbeasts are really easy to parry, though if you're getting two shot you might be a little weak/need more vitality.
You're pretty close to the end though, you should keep going!

protip: if fire deals the killing blow to the silverbeast, the worms don't spawn
protip: there's a rune in forbidden woods that gives pretty decent frenzy resistance
ThaHuntah is being selfless enough to be tonight's fight club host

I'd really appreciate any participants joining the Discord. It'd make things easier to keep track of - and personally I'd like to see it grow a bit more :buckteeth:
How long do these usually go on? I can't do anything for another 2 hours

NEW PLAN: this will happen tomorrow/in exactly 24 hours because maybe then people will have time because it's the weekend or something

As long as there's interest. Tonight's club dried up kinda quickly
