Yup, you don't even need to spec for flamesprayer. Just use a few spare bloodstone shards you might have to upgrade it and you're golden.
That's why you should rarely use lock-on in dark souls games.
Uh huh, sure... because that's totally viable when trying to block while backing off, and won't at ALL result in them getting around your shield and savaging you. I mean, it's totally even POSSIBLE to circle-strafe opponents (one of the most vital and basic tactics in the series) without lock-on, right?

Well ya, you can. Just point your character toward the enemy when they're about to hit you to block it. Or better yet, just dodge it.

We don't all have spidey-sense, man...
I tend to find myself dodging more often than blocking in this game, because often the stamina damage is just insane, but I still make sure the shield is up whenever I'm not regaining stamina or attacking just in case... and that instinct has saved me countless times.
At any rate... unlocked just isn't too viable with the mouse and keyboard. The camera doesn't cooperate well.
And no... I will not use a controller.
One of these days I'll own Bloodborne, and I'll have to, but it's so not my style.

We might need a different host instead of imgur then. Anyone got a spare flickr or dropbox to host them?
Dropbox can't host anymore, they removed that.

I probably wasted more of my life than you did trying to beat Rom my first time.
My current strategy that works most of the time is to use a hit and run technique where I thin out her spiders a little and just jump in and get some hits then back off. I stick close to her so she doesn't use the meteor attack because her AOE attack is easy to bait, dodge, and is very telegraphed.
Also summoning Damien of Mensis is a great strategy too because he will bombard the shit out of her with attacks she is weak to. It's glorious because he's useless in every other fight but here he dominates

Oh holy shit, I thought you were just making a joke about spiders
Anyone have this on PS4 and on SL 120 or summon-able at 120? I'm putting a freaking bounty on [sp]Darkeater Midir[/sp]. The health I can manage as attacking the head does normal damage, but each hit is 1-2 dead. The only weapon that could do a bit more damage to the boss is TNK's Dragonspear maxed out and I'm doing minimal scaling as a STR character.
Oh and I'm on NG+ so get ready for a world of hurting.
I'm 120 but NG+ [sp]Midir[/sp] sounds beyond a nightmare.
One I'm willing to die in.

Cool. PSN's megashark. Let's kill this overgrown [sp]lizard.[/sp]
Finding signs works best when near the Ringed City inner wall bonfire or just outside the boss door.
this is just a small, unimportant detail but while invading near the first judicator is, i noticed you can see [sp]midir[/sp] clinging to the mountain behind him before [sp]midir[/sp] starts attacking you. i thought that was pretty neat.
we're gettin the images back up again
thanks imgur

Doing a Fume Knight style dual wield is actually pretty viable in PvP since running R1 for UGS sucks and you usually just use the regular R1. You can put the UGS on your off-hand and use a straight sword on the main-hand
Do your stats (or the level of your catalyst) matter at all for a buff spell, or is it flat if you can cast it at all?
I ask because I just got Carthus Flame Arc for my Pyromancer, and I... REALLY hate needing it in my off-hand. Since I'm going full pyromancer, maybe I just shouldn't bother with the weapon buff, but I'm still using my sword when things get sticky or I run out of magic (I say that realizing the flame weapon spell USES magic). So yeah, why buff your sword if you still have magic to cast fireballs with, but it makes me wonder if OTHER buffs will work as well.
Since Pyromancer is kinda the jack-of-all-trades caster, I wonder if having a talisman or staff in the off hand (for blessed weapon or magic weapon) will work just as well as a damage boost without sacrificing my flame in the off-hand. Since you can only ever get one pyromancy flame per run, it's not like I can have a second as backup for my offhand like I do for intelligence build. So I'd have to switch every time I used the buff.
Eh, at this point I might just stick to resins, even though I hate using consumables like that.
Or, since I'm nearing the Smoldering Lake, I'm also coming up on the chaos gems.
Going pure caster and being with a raw weapon the whole game... I feel like I'm missing out. I don't like worrying about buffs honestly, so the idea of having something of a permanent half-buff on my weapon at all times, instead of having to reapply temporary ones appeals to me greatly.
Though I also know, as useful as fire and dark damage are, that this may not only be split damage, but THREE WAY split damage...
I'm gonna do more research here, but any advice is appreciated.
Blessed weapon is always a flat 7.5% physical(?) damage increase, with the hp regen scaling with faith. I believe all the other buffs scale from int/fai/both.
[editline]5th May 2017[/editline]
Still, I don't think there's much point in having your pyro flame in your right hand instead of your offhand, since the moveset is the same and you can't two hand it.

Right, you also can't hold a shield at that time, so you have to switch between attacking and defending with two button presses instead of just one.
I can't help it, I just feel naked without a shield to fall back on. It's what it's there for.

Spells like Carthus Flame Arc are affected by the spell buff stat of the catalyst, meaning the higher the number the more damage the buff adds to the weapon. The spell buff stat in turn is affected by the catalyst's upgrade level as well as your INT/ FTH stat.
I can totally use the intelligence scaling on the crystal chime to get that extra healing power right?

otherwise yorshoertathkas schime it is

As far as I know, it only bestows dual scaling on offensive miracles (Lightning Spear, etc.), not healing miracles.
I miss shield chime
Decided to give the Grand Lance a try in Dark Souls 2 and I'm in love. What's the best infusion for this thing? A lot of people say poison but the damage on it takes such a huge hit that I'm iffy on it.

No infusions, just a second lance. Powerstance.

Dark or chaos longsword is an effective weapon. Dark hand is great. Those will take you through the game without spells, so if you use them you're more than good.
Witches locks is also great, but takes serious dedication to learn how to use effectively. And if you do you'll only be half as effective as other weapon types, but it's way fun
My first playthrough used the longsword, dark hand, and dark/fire spells per area. Pretty smooth sailing, never felt at a significant disadvantage.
Also: get rapport.
Beating the hurdle of Rom, only put me up against another challenge : the beginning of Yahar'Gul, The Unseen Village. I can't seem to quite pick off all the villager before they get resurrected by the bell lady. Should I just try to run past them all down the stairs and fight them in that area?

Absolutely, they're really easy to run past and [sp]the Maiden is in the room immediately after them[/sp]

This is the best advice I've ever gotten.
Is it just me, or is this a really poorly designed enemy?

It has a shitton of health.
It is able to turn on a dime, even while firing its projectiles.
Its attacks always pierce through shields, even with no visual designs that would designate that it should be able to do that.
There's 2 of them in the same area, which makes it seem like it takes heavy amounts of skill and reflexes to get into their arena and avoid one of them spamming fireballs at you while the other does attacks that can only be avoided via perfectly timed dodges.
These things have been frustrating me for the past 20 minutes. I've pretty much been able to take them down via plinking with a bow and arrow, but I'm pretty sure that's typically not how you're supposed to play Dark Souls :v:
This is on a level 122 strength build btw, if that makes any difference.
