Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread XIII. The Ringed City

The engine is From's own engine, as with cloth physics, which have been there since DS2. BB uses some DS assets because From owns the IP and can do whatever they wish with assets they developed for their own IP.
[editline]10th May 2017[/editline]
They probably could have gotten away with reusing some BB assets, but felt that they might as well just stay on the safe side.
How much of BB's effects were because of sony-hires? Can anyone confirm it?
I'm sure Sony would have given them a little bit of assistance in that front, surely
Sony only funded, marketed, and published. From designed/developed the game by themselves
Considering how many 'good' companies can be insanely scummy about IP's I'm glad they played it safe at least
I suppose I'm just going to be perpetually salty about it until I can play Bloodborne on PC.
I can't afford a PS4, before anybody mentions it. Nor a PSN subscription. I'd happily buy Bloodborne at full price, but a full console/subscription service for one game? No way... And there's no other PS4 exclusives I'd want to play.
The streaming service might be a saving grace, but only if they have a good host for the Oceanic folk. Anybody whose seen my PvP videos will know what my connection is like normally.
Sony only funded, marketed, and published. From designed/developed the game by themselves
Actually From got assistance on Bloodborne from Japan Studio, just as they did with Demon's Souls. It's highly likely that anything Japan Studio provided couldn't be used in another game.
Dark Souls 3's PvP would have fared off much better if they wouldn't have included the "lol I win now okay go fuck yourself"-ring.
Feels like it's included just as another nod to Dark Souls 1 with little regard to balance.
Well they reused plenty of stuff: The engine, for one. But also the cloth physics, some animations and bucketloads of sounds. Sony's property it might be, but the assets are still part of From Software's library.
If it was a legal issue, then they could still probably either re-use core components (code for the particle physics, basic textures) or at the very least, accurately recreate them. Not to mention that Bloodborne itself uses lots of assets from the earlier Dark-Souls entries.
The dip in quality is noticeable, either way.
Reusing a game engine is not the same as reusing assets.
A game engine is a license a studio purchases in order to build their games on. Assets are things the studio makes themselves in order to put into the game engine.
Sony's property it might be, but the assets are still part of From Software's library.
Not for assets that were made specifically for the game. For example, things like simple animations (running, dodging, etc.), sound effects, and certain visual effects are property of From because they're old re-used assets from previous Souls games that From had developed and funded themselves. However, any assets that were made specifically for BB such as models, unique weapon animations, and new visuals are property of Sony and cannot be re-used because Sony funded those new assets to be made.
The dip in quality is noticeable, either way.
That is the difference between a game that was funded entirely by your own money, and a game that was funded by an outside publisher.

I assume you're talking about the Hornet Ring
balance-wise it's broken as all fuck, but....those animations though
you can't tell me it's not fun smashing people's faces with hammers and fists
I've sworn off Hornet Ring for duel but I've shamefully worn it once or twice for co-op fights since it's kinda messy in there
Then again you are kind of responsible for not getting parried as well, use more non-parryable weapons and jumping attacks
[editline]11th May 2017[/editline]
You're pretty much asking for parries if you rely too heavily on R1 and running R1
R2 and charged R2 works wonder

Why the fuck did they buff the RKPGS am I missing something here?
Why the fuck did they buff the RKPGS am I missing something here?
It was nerfed not long after release and honestly it was a bit much
Rotation speed nerf doesnt sound too bad for both the receiving side or the delivering side
why are undead/mutated dogs always so god damn annoying in literally every game they're in
glad i'm a cat person

Increased attack power and decreased stamina consumption for Farron Greatsword
Hell yeah
Can't wait to see more breakdancers.
That staircase of 8 Harald knights can fuck right off. I'd rather deal with the Ringed Knights more than them.

I never had any problems with the dogs in DS3 but they were fucking awful in BB and DS1. I don't remember any in DS2 but that's because everything else was more frustrating.

[sp]if you do a plunging attack onto one you can bring it down to really low health or just straight up murder that son of a bitch[/sp]
but yeah, that staircase is a total pain.

I already know about the [sp]plunging attack[/sp], the issue is so many of them right next to each other in close quarters. And you aggro one, you aggro them all

in that case, just do the honorable thing- grab all the shiny items and cheese it :v:
• Decreased attack power and R1 projectiles of the Blade of Peril skill attached to Gael's Greatsword
Projectile? What projectile?
Projectile? What projectile?
Undiscovered tech? Or maybe just a typo.

probably the hitbox
Projectile? What projectile?
R1 of the weapon art got nerfed in some way is what it means. Maybe it no longer 3 hit true combos?
R1 of the weapon art got nerfed in some way is what it means. Maybe it no longer 3 hit true combos?
Might as well remove every weapon's combos.
The Splitleaf Greatsword has insane combo potential for example.
That staircase of 8 Harald knights can fuck right off. I'd rather deal with the Ringed Knights more than them.
while its a pain to rerun through the area, there are little nooks and crannies all over that staircase where you can wait for them to pass before moving on. there's one immediately to the right of where you first hit the staircase.

Also, drop attack their face for insane damage if you can single one out.
Greathammers and similar weapons can stunlock Harald knights too if you're going str.

Dogs in DS2 are the easiest to deal with funnily enough. They don't have stupidly accurate tracking and don't spam attacks and dodges constantly before you can even attack.
