Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread XIII. The Ringed City
Looks very good, what's the best place to get poster frames like that
Most arts & crafts shops should have frames like that.
I don't think I can accurately rate bosses by difficulty, so here's a few that stand out.
O+S - Most iconic difficult boss?
Artorias - Great fight, really makes you feel like a pro when you're doing well.
Manus - Sweaty dodge button award
(one of these two are probably my favorite)
Burnt Ivory King - Artificial difficulty award. Disclaimer, I build pretty squishy and having to spend what feels like ten minutes doing a risky fight before you can even attempt a guy who has a lot of dangerous and quick attacks...one of my saltier DS moments.
Lud and Zallen - Absurd bonfire run award
Champion Gundyr - please stop hitting me
Pontiff Sulyahn - joke when you use a shield award
[sp]Darkeater Midir[/sp] - [sp]"He's down to 20% but I can tell I'm gonna be here for at least another five minutes" award[/sp]
Haven't finished bloodborne yet.
So drive-by post unrelated to the discussion, I finally bothered to hang up this poster.

Bloodborne posters are great

I have one with Lady Maria and the Doll in the same picture as well.
I think now that I've had some time to reflect after beating Ringed City,
[sp]Slave Knight Gael might be up there as one of my favorite characters from Dark Souls.
His motivations for collecting the Dark Soul to make a new Painted World, his representation as one of the last humans in the world when everything is desolate wasteland, him continuing to follow his quest for the pigment despite the Pygmies being all old and dry and how he knows he'll turn into a monster because of trying to drink all their blood.
Plus using his cape in his fight is pretty cool. I think he's pretty worthy of being the last boss of Dark Souls, despite him having not much prior history in the series, imo.[/sp]
Before i buy, is DS III playable with keyboard and mouse?
Before i buy, is DS III playable with keyboard and mouse?
Yes.
While we're picking through details of the whole series, I always felt like they dropped the ball with the menu music for 3. DeS, DS1, and even DS2 have more unconventional menu themes that contrast with the "epic battle music" that makes up the bulk of the soundtracks.
It's a good fit for a game that has a lot going on under the surface. DS1's menu theme massively ratchets up the nostalgia factor for the game and it's one of my top vg tracks ever, but DS3's menu sounds like trailer music.
I liked it until I heard it for the millionth time. It gets pretty old. The softer calmer themes sound much better.

The Dreg Heap and Ringed City, however, appear to be in the future. Reason I say that is because of how Princess Fillanore appear to have been dead for a considerable amount of time, and only her undisturbed corpse was able to keep up the apparent illusion of what the world looks like after innumerable linkings of the First Flame.
[/sp]
I was on the assumption that [sp]Gwyn gave his own daughter, Filianore, to the Pygmy Lords in order to lock the Ringed City in a time stasis, which was set to last as long as Filianore kept sleeping.
When the idiot that is your character waltzes in and wakes Filianore, the spell breaks and time catches up with the Ringed City and Filianore herself, reducing her to a whitered corpse[/sp]

Some time ago I decided to give up and accept that I'm the only person on Earth who thinks the use of the series' lore in The Ringed City was shit, but I really must say that, to me, [sp]Slave Knight Gael[/sp] being the final boss of the DLC makes as much as sense, lore-wise, as if that screaming fishman lunatic at the doorstep of the Fishing Hamlet was the final boss of Bloodborne's The Old Hunters DLC

All of them are, but be ready to rebind some keys. The idea of "You can't play Dark-Souls without a controller!" Is bullhonkey, but isn't helped by the fact that Fromsoft apparently don't know how keyboards work.
Took me 20 minutes to make DS3 playable (15 minutes for DS2 and two hours for DS1) on M&K but since then its been smooth sailing.

What was wrong with DS3's default controls?
Alongside mouse support for the menus, I actually thought the layout was the most sensible it's ever been. I even retooled DS1 to operate the same way for consistency.
Sure, having "R" and "F" be hidden menu controls, so you can toggle item descriptions and effects, but otherwise I started DS3 thinking, "god, FINALLY, they GET IT."
Y'know... other than the fact their menu button graphics are still dedicated controller-button textures, and they don't change when you alter them...

you fucked it
Looks like someone from one of those Desperate Housewives shows. I don't even have to point out which one.

So the Demon Prince...
Yeah, that was a thing... Sure started this with its best foot forward. Hard as balls, but at least it's consistent.
And now at the city itself. Must admit, wasn't expecting this! And already I'm impressed by the depth of content. I might forgive AofA being the short cold fart that it is if resources were rerouted to make THIS a keeper.
Must say... medieval "Saving Private Ryan" wasn't something I thought I'd experience today. Even managed to out-pvp some guy that invaded on the steps and hoped I'd unwittingly walk into the arrowstorm. Tried being aggressive this time around and sliced him stem to sternum by the bonfire.
It was annoying... but well designed. Plenty of places to hide, and even when I got trapped, I felt dumb for realizing the true route afterward. Misdirection at its finest.
Hell, I even missed the safe steps at the top with the giant monk or whatever. I squeezed into the nook just hidden by his throne and popped out to hit him till he died. THEN I saw the stairs behind me and sighed.
As an addendum to that, I like how the robed hollows ahead of that truly have a "fuck you!" shove as a normal, zero damage attack, and not just a scripted event by the ledges they spawn at. One shoved me just past the bonfire, and I couldn't help but laugh, because after that he retreated behind a wall.

It wasn't until the road of sacrifices thay I learned from a friend you could jump in the game
Oh man I'm loving this Farron GS buff, everyone is expecting you to do the meme break dance and nobodies expect you to use the parry dagger. I've been going to parry town for like the past 10 matches

I can't quite figure out whether or not you can parry the Farron GS while in 2H though because I'm getting mixed result:

You can't parry 2H UGS right? Does Farron UGS counts?

I believe what most people say is that you shouldn't play Dark Souls with a keyboard. You can do it, it's just a worse experience.

No, you cannot technically two-hand the farron and as such the weapon is fully parryable.

They're one handing it in the first clip though.
You can't parry 2H UGS right? Does Farron UGS counts?
Every attack of that weapon can be parried.
I still find it as a meh weapon since revealing the dagger screams "Parry time"" or "Breakdance".
It really needed that cut content attack which is a trust in Weapon Art form to make it a full fun weapon.
I might try it just for the damage buff but i don't enjoy using it.

Are you saying you could parry the meme RKUGS?
Looks very good, what's the best place to get poster frames like that
I got mine at Michaels, which is a craft store. A plastic 24"x36" frame is pretty cheap.
Cheaper frames usually have annoyingly reflective plastic or glass in the front which can make it hard to see the art.
I pulled the plastic out and used poster putty to attach the corners to the frame. It worked out!
I gotta say, the biggest flaw of the dark souls series is not having a kick button.
I still can't reliably kick on command and keep randomly kicking while swinging after all this time.
I'd take a kick over a jump button any day.
To quote The Bard... Holy mother of shit...
I can safely say the city streets might be the most harrowing run in DS3 thus far.
THIS is more what I remember about Dark Souls: crazy deep in a run with no apparent end, CREAKING under the weight of your souls with no ring of sacrifice to keep them safe, down to the dregs of your estus, every wiggle of your toe a calculated maneuver.
And then, you come to the logical endpoint, and despair at a MASSIVE open area. A swamp that REEKS of the statement, "you are going to fucking DIE..." And then, as you behold this horror, you see just what's going to kill you. A thirty-foot-tall robed hollow skulking about like the personification of death itself. After the first dude that looked like this, you're not fucking with that guy. Not with all your souls and progress at stake.
With your destination possible ANYWHERE and the swamp being the last place you'd ever go under the circumstances, you start weighing the options of just homeward-boning it back to firelink and leveling up, against the knowledge that doing so will mean performing the entire slog... AGAIN.
You take a breath and hug the walls, hoping the little hopper things aren't some mob gank enemy more vicious than they appear. Your heart stops as you encounter a new enemy with a fierce weapon, but luckily it's a squishy one.
You race up the steps, and there it is: the bonfire. Your port in the storm. Salvation. Safety. Progress. And the knowledge that what lies behind you will never hurt you again...
Well... until your next playthrough that is...
This is something Dark Souls 3 was honestly missing. As frustrating as it can be, I was disappointed that DS3 was so generous with its bonfire placement. You could never be too worried you wouldn't find a bonfire or open a shortcut that made progress come fast. You never felt stuck. You were ALWAYS moving. Some bonfires would occur inside of what felt like 100 feet, purely as a timesaver for an area containing no opponents between them.
DS and even DS2 had far worse distances. You had to WORK for that bonfire, even if ultimately you just ran like hell to reach it. DS3 is often too afraid to discourage new players of the series. Like, perfect example: The Crucifiction Woods bonfire, right in between would SHOULD be the real bonfire, the next bonfire, and the boss guarding the Cathedral of the Deep.
But yeah, nothing beats that feeling when you finally make it. It's a real feeling that you OVERCAME something, rather than it just being one in a guaranteed series of regular checkpoints.

the bane of controller based games tbh
prey has a permanent flashlight button to up on the dpad... and also when you're zooming in the down on the dpad is now zoom out, so you can't change to that weapon while using the psychoscope, and you can only hotbar 3 weapons. WHY
[editline]14th May 2017[/editline]
really basing controls around controllers causes devs to do a lot of silly shit
