Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread XIII. The Ringed City
Good... fuck... in heaven...
Dark Eater Midir is simultaneously one of the most impressive bosses of the game... as well as one of the most ENTIRELY unfair.
It's clear that if DS3 finally had its Oolacile, then Midir was meant to be its Kalameet. There were even certain attacks that very much REMINDED me of Kalameet.
But the difference? My last play through of DS1, I memorized his full expansive moveset so well I managed to crush him on my first try. He was VERY difficult, and if you didn't play smart, he could easily kill you FAST. But if you knew how to approach him, it was just a test of endurance. How long can you keep up with him before you choke, and he manages to land that sweet coup-de-grace that puts you right back at the start?
I... don't get that with Midir. Midir just feels needlessly cheap.
Half his attacks seem like they ignore shields entirely. Vast majority of the time I copped a hit, I had my shield up and the game didn't seem to care. Didn't even break my guard, just smashed me.
Then there's the fact that hitting him with any weapon that isn't a really long Dex weapon or some kind of UGS is next to impossible. His hitbox is so weird and his moves so aggressive and erratic that you can slash all the fuck around him and only slice thin air.
Okay, so... magic? Well no... and no to a LOT of other stuff too, because he's resistant to about everything but Lightning. I crafted a lightning weapon just for this fight and put on the clutch ring, but it didn't matter whatsoever because getting in ANY hits, even after learning to go for his tail, was such a shaky prospect that I was consistently dying without shaving off an eighth of his colossal health bar.
Yes, because what this boss needed was to utterly discourage the use of phantoms as well as ensure added difficulty of the most transparently artificial kind.
Seriously, apart from the guard-ignoring attacks (I swear, if anyone snobs at me about why I guard instead of "just rolling" I'll shove a lightning bolt up their ass) half his melee stuff is also obscured by him spraying fire as he charges, and in the chaos all you can do is roll as well towards his ass as possible.
THEN, there's the flying fire-sweep that only misses you if you're INTENSELY lucky to be on the outside of it. Then there's his nearly guaranteed one-shot, the exploding laser tantrum that opens by tracking straight for you. No chance to evade. You get hit by the laser, you're getting hit by the explosion, and unless you're jamming tears of denial HARD, that's it.
Even trying the cheezy pestilent mercury strategy I only barely got halfway through him. So I say without the slightest bit of guilt that I cheezed him with mercury, AND two other phantoms. Even slightly taking the heat off was no guarantee, and it exploded his health pool in the process, so fuck it. But we won, our third guy getting vaporized two-thirds into the fight.
I dunno, maybe I'd have tried something different if I was all Faith and played full-on lightning mage, but as a Pyromancer even with all the buff rings and upgraded talisman I was doing less damage with a quick lightning spear than I could with a single swing of an infused sword.
I've heard of people fucking respeccing just to fight Midir, and that just sounds like bad design. Unless you have some completely non-viable build, a boss shouldn't be able to totally thwart it like that. It's why it was usually a good bet to keep dark pyromancy equipped in case it was way more effective on certain enemies. I was forced to "anything goes" tactics because I don't have the stats to wield the bigger weapons that might have some effect by their reach/damage, and my individual faith stat is too low to do meaningful damage that way.
I read all the horror stories here about Midir before fighting him, like how people barely did 200 damage to him and how he has shitzillion health etc. Then I encountered him, and I did pretty much the same damage as I did to other bosses and he was also pretty much on par with Demon Prince when it comes to length, you just don't get a small pause between phases or anything.
Took me two tries to win. Got him to around 1/4 of health on my first try, then got greedy and got owned. Second try I was SUPER paranoid and eventually won. :v:

You vs the hunter he told you not to worry about
So... I started a fresh character recently and finished off the first playthrough (all bosses/most sidequests, ect...) and decided to do a big item run before moving into NG+.
And I swear, this game just wants me to have all the pants.
I thought it was a bit odd at first when I got 4 Cathedral Knight Leggings before the armour dropped, then 5 Evangelist Boots before the rest...
But then I started trying to get the Deserter set from High Wall, you know? The set most people have by the time they get to undead settlement?

Ten goddamn pairs of pants before I got the rest of the set! Fucking... Ten.
Is Dark-Souls trying to tell me I need to go buy more pants? Is it telling me that I already own too many pants!?
We may never know...

My advice would be not trying to replicate Alice, but rather attempt a realistic portrayal.
Just check some "how to make a cute waifu in Bloodborne"-video and make adjustments from there.
I have a bloodborne character that I can alter to look like alice and give you the specs later today.
Try this one as a base for your Alice

just a quick tip, some of the character creation values are swapped around in DS3, so "concave" becomes "convex" and so on.
if you follow this video exactly in bloodborne you end up with something quite unholy, as I just found out

Sooooo have you just been playing with the character creator this whole time instead of playing?
You know that you're not even going to see her face while you're playing because only like 4 headwear options even show the face

Why do we do everything, really?
True, I don't like there to be an ugly face under the mask anyway
Character Creation can be a game in itself. Especially if you've played Black Desert Online...

Speaking as somebody who spent 2 hours solid on DS3's character creator, I can affirm that some of us folk enjoy playing with character creation, even if 90% of the armour hides the face.
The fashion souls is strong.
I never wear headgear in souls games. Well except bloodborne, the hats there are stylish af.

Take that back
I bought Dark Souls at the start of October last year and, up until recently, I haven't really touched it. I've tried I think five runs getting to the end of the gargoyles and I just didn't feel it. It wasn't fun. Didn't click with me. However, a few days ago I decided to force myself to keep going and haha what do you know: I'm having fun. Just arrived at Anor Londo, and for once I feel like I'm making progress.
So happy I'm able to like the game now, I was afraid I'd never get around to it again.

Good on ya man. It took me like 4 or 5 years before I finally found my own interest in these games. It can be hard to get into the games at first but once you do you're hooked for life.
My first time playing dark souls, I got lost in Firelink Shrine, couldn't figure out where to go next, decided the game was shit and returned it to gamestop.
Lol

Being into character-design I can say that there's a whole lot you can tell about a character already by their face.
My first time was rough because I was feeling a little lost, eventually I reached Ornstein and Smough and I had to make a pause since I didn't knew what I was doing. Later, created a new character with less mistakes done and I was able to continue forward.
Fuck those two archers in Anor Londo tho. Fuck them with a rusty halberd betwixt the taint.

For me, the bat winged demons gave me a harder time. Possibly due to only having a black knight great sword. The rest of my weapons I didn't upgrade so I was stuck with slow swings against these jerks flying off before I can get one swing in.
The two archers are nullified by spectacular rolling skills. And once you get to one of them, the other can't hit you. At least, that's how it happened with me.
I got O and S on my second try because Smough's AI just broke for some reason. He attacked normally but walked really slow around the arena and kept getting stuck in pillars. I've only seen it happen one other time while being summoned but it basically meant that I just had to fight Ornstein then Smough.
Of course every other time I played through the game I got my ass handed to me :v:
I quit at Gargoyles the first time i played Dark Souls. Granted i played with no fan made patch, was levelling up every stat to equal and everytime one of the Gargoyles would use the fire, the frame rate died :v:

archers are even easier if you're good at parring them, don't have to worry about hitting the wall attacking them.
