I think I broke it..
Yeap, I broke it.
[sp]Yes, thats a Call of Duty spoof.[/sp]
I paid through paypal but where can I play the game from? I'm still new to windows 8 and don't know my way around in it so well..
Nevermind, I tried paying again because I didn't get a confirmation email, and now it's downloading.
Windows 8 only? Well someone is going to go bankrupt and it's not me...
Game Dev Story 2 is free for the PC in Japanese. There's an english patch somewhere, but I haven't played it in a long time.
By the way, the download link is under the third subheading and it's the second blue link.

THe only reason a lot of people switched to Windows 7 was due to Vista's awfulness and XP's inability to use Dx11 or Dx10. Windows 8 brings little new features and has no ties to anything I want or need.
The english translation stalled then the people doing it got into a piss fight i think and removed it all sooooooooooooooo

That's a bug.
Turns out, the new update fixes it:
- Fixed: In rare cases games could sell forever, resulting in huge amounts of money. No one should be that rich!
- Fixed: Platforms retire after year 25.
- Fixed: The end-of-trial screen was showing in certain save games even when the game was already purchased.
- Fixed: Selecting SDK as a game feature crashed the app.
Sell nearly 250,000 copies of a game in one week after you made it in the garage. Only get 2000 fans.
A game about being a successful game developer, only supports 1 operating system. IRONY?
Kind of a shame that they only developed it for Windows 8 and not even Windows Phone, if they're gonna be so nitpicky about platforms..

They said they'll release it on ARM platforms (aka, Windows Phone), soon.
It seems like they won't be doing any other platforms though.
I don't see what's wrong with it being Windows 8 only (Apart from people on OSX on Linux). People need to learn that they can't just sit around on the same OS forever, and if you don't like metro you don't have to use it
You can't be serious. This argument works for XP since XP is over a decade old. But 7 is 3 years old. It's dumb and presumptuous to expect people to upgrade to the latest operating system every 3 years.
Does anyone have some tips or tricks for this game? I have 4.9 million on one game, which moved me from my garage to the next office, but then I had trouble making games with high ratings, resulting in me losing the game..

When you advance you need to go big or go home. Start making games for publishers and once you reach a sizable fan base start self publishing and flip the publishers the bird. Also if you're going to make games for publishers do not go with a small team, max your team out, the more likely the game will end up being good.
Great, I started a small business and was low on cash, so I did some contract work, but my guy just sat there rubbing his head for 3 weeks. I lost all my money now so I can only wait until I lose the game.

Thank you for the advice, but I can't seem to get out of my basement now, no matter what I do, I can't make that hit game to get me out of there..
Another new update will be rolling out.
- Fixed: When G3 window shows just before a dev stage, dev progress will not progress any further until the game is reloaded.
- Fixed: SDK was available as a game feature and would result in NaN costs and cause other issues.
- Fixed: ‘Find publishing deal’ would occasionally crash when all topics had been researched.
- Fixed: Game crashes after researching the final 3D Graphics technology.
- Fixed: Could not de-select Stereoscopic 3D in feature selection.
- Fixed: Supporter achievement was not granted when game was bought straight from the Store.
- Fixed: Numerous grammatical errors in messages.
To be honest, on my first playthrough, I didn't even bother with publishers until I had like 10+ millions, full squad in first "big" office, but was totally set back then.
I do find it harder actually to play by going the "publishers" way... dunno why, even though you get tons of fans due to higher publicity = higher sales, but...well... 10% doesn't cut it for me.
Beside that, would love to see different options for game speed, I don't really like how weeks pass in like only 2-4 seconds. Some slower paced game mode would be nice, even if it would slow down everything, I would prefer it.
Anybody know if this has an end like Gamebiz does, or if you can continue on indefinitely, even after you've unlocked everything/every system is release like how GameDevStory is.

After 25 ingame years you have an option to continue playing the game.
There is a pop up information that after 25 year mark, there is no longer technological progress/events coming up.
Yet probably game conferences and maybe some small random ones related to your stuff/games happens.
So, long story short.
Yes, you can play it as long as you want.
I love how the garage stage has a Delorean under the covers :P
Looks like a cool game. I play Dev Story on my phone a lot, but I don't know if I'd get into it as much on the pc.
This is actually a really great game, played the trial on my Surface, and it's the perfect game for my Surface. A shame the full version is not available for ARM yet.
I've played the trial a few times, and I don't fully understand what it is that you can do to make a game good.
Some combinations work flawlessly (Space and Sim, Life and Sim, War and Action) and sell quite a bit, while others that seem like they'd work bomb, no matter how I tweak things around on the sliders (Superhero and Action, Space and Strategy).

It really depends on the sliders, what kind of technology you used in and what recent games you released. Also there are special event needs, but they are rare. (They create a need for an action games or some other genre).
It's kinda hard to get the right game, so I just don't try to find golden spot for every single type but just try to create one that I would enjoy.
Most of the time I get 7-8 scores, sometimes the god ones, 10 and 9.
Also, the amount of work put into the project counts too (Design and Technology).
I had my recent studio that went bankrupt due to stupid event that I fked up.
They had 2x more Technology put into most of the games, I were racking crazy scores all the time, 8-9 (24/7).
When I finally make the jump to Windows 8 I'll get it!
We should compile a list of combinations that work well.
So far I've noticed:
War / Action
Fantasy / RPG
Alternate History / RPG
City / Simulation
Transport / Strategy
Any others? I need to take note of more and we should work out 'good' sliders too. I'll start to note down 9/10 and 10/10 games and their slider positions (roughly).
I am struggling to get past the 2nd office though. I generally end up with too high expenses and screw it all up.

Werewolf / Action (I had a game that did 10x3 and 1x9, it was called "Blood & Gore" for mature audience, focus on gameplay, graphics)
Life / Simulation did well for me
Hacking / Sim (Netgrid, another of my games that received 3x10 on this genre, it was actually my best game in total of 5 industires)
Haven't played the game in few days now, forgot most ;(
I got Windows 8 for this, does that make me weird?

I won't lie, I did install Win8 just for this.
For the first time... I was totally lost when I launched it, trying to find desktop for good 30 minutes (WTF)...
Then after like 40 minutes I came to conclusion that Windows 8 is just Windows 7 with weird ass starting screen addon and built in marketplace.

I worry for you greatly if it took you 30 minutes to find the desktop button from the menu.
Like seriously. It's a bigass button on the bottom left that says DESKTOP on it.

How did it take you 30 minutes to find the desktop.
There is a button clearly labeled "Desktop"
So, how exactly do I go about getting more points into design?
I've gotten reviews on a few games that I should've focused more on design. Is it just upping the slider for World Design?

Also, Sports and Simulation is a good combo. I tried that, with the focus being spent on Gameplay, Engine, Graphics, AI, and Sound, and got straight 9's across the board.
[editline]18th December 2012[/editline]
Virtual Pet and Simulation is another good combo. Focused on gameplay, and got 8's across the board.
