How did it take you 30 minutes to find the desktop. There is a button clearly labeled "Desktop"
Clearly, I was just searching through "right upper corner" menu and by going through some "windows button" stuff that happened to pop up when I first turned on Win 8. I may add, that I have 2 monitors turned on...uhm... 1 monitor and tv. They are supposed to be in duplicate mode, when I first launched it they were extending each other, this is when I had this weird ass startup menu and typical windows desktop at one time. When I changed from extended mode to duplicate, I was left with a normal desktop, thinking it's how it should be. Later I did restart my PC and that shit happened, I had some stuff still turned on and as soon as I turned it off (some random explorer window of C:\ ) that retarded menu poped up. I had no idea what was going on and I was looking for a way out almost everywhere. I'm pretty freaking sure there wasn't any text on it, until you highlighted it, otherwise I wouldn't spend that much of the time. Ofcourse, it wasn't 30 minutes, it's clearly overexaggerated, it was closed to 7-10, but the point was that It took me way too long for it to find. It's just totally "unwindowish" to have that weird ass alien layout popping up your face when your OS is ready.
Anybody have any advice on how to succeed with medium games? I can score well and sell well with small games, but my medium ones tend to do poorly, even with good combinations.
Why would anyone outside of Microsoft develop exclusively for Windows 8. That makes absolutely no sense to me. I mean, several big game devs have spoken out against it, and it's the first computer software I've ever used that I would think of describing as user hostile. It's just a mess.
I love the Game Over screen. I went bankrupt and got bought out by EA.

I think I'm doomed to never play a game like this, since I just upgraded to Windows 7 a few weeks ago, and I don't have the money (well, really, the need) to pay tons of money for a smartphone.

I thought they were around the same price.
Is 7 cheaper than 8? I thought they were around the same price.
You can get Windows 8 for $15, 7 is still like $60.
coming up to year 10 and pretty sure I'm going to go bankrupt all that time wasted
Is 7 cheaper than 8? I thought they were around the same price.
It's cheaper at the moment.
coming up to year 10 and pretty sure I'm going to go bankrupt all that time wasted
I got to year 14 on my first game and went bankrupt. Then on my second, I ended up doing well, though I played it much safer (and slower). I think it took me until ~year 40 or so for me to unlock everything, then hit it big with an MMO on the PC (which had over 2 billion subscribers).
I really hope it somehow becomes usable on Windows 7, even though that's probably impossible. As much as I loved Game Dev Story, switching to Windows 8 would basically mean trashing >1/2 of my game library.

Every single game I played on Windows 7 worked fine if not better on 8.
What do you mean? For example, I'm pretty sure BF3 has serious issues with Windows 8.
I'm pretty sure BF3 has serious issues with Windows 8.
I'm pretty sure it don't. No, it doesn't.
[sp]Yes, thats a Call of Duty spoof.[/sp]
In Game Dev Story I had a series of games called Ninja Biden which transformed into Ninja Biden Revengance and from that point on it was a spoof of the MGS series
A bit off topic, but Kairosoft's newer games really just seem to be slightly edited copies of Game Dev Story. I downloaded Beastie Bay, and this is one of the first messages when you start: "I've been helping people develop deserted islands for 40 years now. Ask me anything." EDIT: It had to be done. Good thing I have Windows 8 installed on my Laptop, I might be able to get some spare dosh to put towards this game.
I don't see what's wrong with it being Windows 8 only (Apart from people on OSX on Linux). People need to learn that they can't just sit around on the same OS forever, and if you don't like metro you don't have to use it
July 22, 2009. That's Windows 7's release date. That is hardly a long time ago, and considering how many games still roll with dx9/openGL (for XP support), you're clearly talking out of your ass.

So been reading this thread and joined the site So anyone know which employee skills best match the development slider bars? Like Engine is Tech or Design skill or Game Play matches design? Only made it to 25 years one time and been getting killed every time after since. I must have lucked out the first time. Not even sure how much this matters to the success of the game but thought I would ask anyway. Anyway, thanks!
They posted a new blog post today, with an exciting little bit of info. http://www.greenheartgames.com/2013/01/17/game-dev-tycoon-one-month-summary-and-outlook/
Not surprisingly many players wonder if Game Dev Tycoon will remain a Windows 8 exclusive. We will investigate possible ports to Android (Google Play), Windows 7/Steam and maybe even the iPad once we have completed the above things. At this stage there are no promises but if you are interested in any of these or if you want to keep up to date on our plans and progress then please subscribe to our newsletter. We do not plan to port to any phone systems like WP8, iPhone or Android. Game Dev Tycoon was designed for larger screens or tablet devices and the user interface would not work on phones and would require substantial changes.
Sorry for bump. I didn't want to make a new thread. Upgraded to Windows 8 today, this game made it all worth it.
Whoa, hey, guess who's now on Steam Greenlight http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=134714217
I assume this game hasn't been released for any other platforms than windows 8?
Correct. If it passes Greenlight, it'll then be available on Steam for Windows 7 (and possibly XP/Vista, though that hasn't been confirmed), and they have been saying they're working on getting it to work on ARM devices.
I sense april foolery. Is it sad that I'd buy that in a heartbeat if it were real?
New patch.
v1.2.0 08 Apr. 2013 - New: Release compatible with Windows 8 RT (ARM devices). - Improved: Development bubbles now group together into larger bubbles. This is more visually appealing, gives a better sense of progress and improves performance. - Improved: General performance tuning. - Fixed: Typewriting sound would play slightly before dialog was open. - Fixed: Rare crash when loading a save-game where the game is in the game definition screen. - Fixed: Review messages are sometimes used twice per game. (regression)
http://www.greenheartgames.com/game-dev-tycoon-changelog/
