The game has been in dev for a year and a half now? Except for more guns and clothes, I see almost no new features that are worth mentioning, it has game breaking bugs that are there since day 1 and it's still shitly optimized.
And they expect to release it completely for December of this year?
wait release it completely as in full game? hahahaha
I want to see a developer be fucking real with me. It feels so insincere to see DayZ development flounder like this and not see a single acknowledgement of that from a dev. Same with Project Zomboid and I'm sure plenty of other projects I've followed in the past (Cortex Command is the classic example).
Yeah, honestly if the DayZ lead guy just straight up said "look guys sorry but we fucked up, it's still gonna be a while mates" i'd be satisfied
the game in this state is fucking pitiful
It's still in alpha and the zombies are near to none existent and they're hoping to leave ea to full release in december, I want whatever drugs they've taken
It's still in alpha and the zombies are near to none existent and they're hoping to leave ea to full release in december, I want whatever drugs they've taken
maybe If they would actually take cocaine they could make it
maybe If they would actually take cocaine they could make it
Yeah, like Stephen King, he wrote two or three books under the effects of cocaine and he can't even remember how he did it.
Yeah, like Stephen King, he wrote two or three books under the effects of cocaine and he can't even remember how he did it.
i mean it's not all that different right now except they're slow as fuck still
It's still in alpha and the zombies are near to none existent and they're hoping to leave ea to full release in december, I want whatever drugs they've taken
From where did you get that from? Brian hicks said that they are aiming at 2016 but they don't expect the release there. Beta might come this year but nothing else. Please don't spread misinformation.
Yeah, like Stephen King, he wrote two or three books under the effects of cocaine and he can't even remember how he did it.
Yeah, and it turns out they were some of his best books too.
To be honest my forumla for the games success, or at least for me to have fun is this
-A few more vehicles, namely smaller ones, bike, motorcycle, a few sedans, make them a teency bit more common
-Fix the persistence and loot
-Optimize the game thoroughly
-Squash most of the bugs
-Mod support and leave the rest to the devoted community
Honestly, squash some bugs and add some core functionality before outright feature-fucking the game and I'd be golden if you just added the vehicles.
I just want DIY vehicles or at least bikes. Or make vehicles more common, surely the cars of an entire population can't just suddenly disappear?
The worst part of DayZ is pressing that W key for 15 minutes without doing anything else
There's three new vehicles coming in 0.59; the Ikarus (bus), a Lada Niva and the GAZ Volga. Total vehicle spawns are increasing to about 40 or so I think. Fingers crossed they'll actually work in this update, too.
There's also some fundamentals for the new renderer going into the next update. Nothing functional yet, just laying groundwork, but it's coming. They've already run tests with a simplified version of it and they're talking gigantic performance improvements even before optimisation.
Everything we're asking for here is being done, and I shouldn't be defending the developers because I agree with you all that it's all taking far too fucking long, but it's all coming. Most of the developers are avid players of the game too so they have to fight all the same problems we do.
I'm super tempted to ditch DayZ and come back in about nine months when it's more complete, but most other games feel so shallow to me now.

Read two posts above, I was going off what my quote said, so I'm not spreading any information, please read before accusing
USPVT must be resurrected if dayz ever returns to it's former glory.
[Sp] it'll never happen, but it's nice to dream :( [/sp]
The weird thing is, I can run DayZ on really low settings and high settings but get exactly the same fps..
The great thing about real virtuality engine is that the performance of your game is not only depending like 50% on the state of the server you play on (because the entire simulation is run on the server for some reason so your FPS is directly proportional to server performance, but they did "allegedly" fix this in DayZ Standalone) but you have have quad SLI titans and still get 20 FPS because honestly RV engine is like the most CPU dependent piece of shit in the gaming industry today. If you don't have a hex-core CPU pushing 4.2GHz on the lightest overclocks you can count yourself out of 60 FPS
or 30 in this latest patch since it fucking ruined everything. It's become literally unplayable at this rate. I love DayZ man, but god damn I can't aim and shoot in a stop motion film
It's always the same few of us posting in this thread
Hey, here's some hope for 0.59 and all those shiny new vehicles making the game a bit more enjoyable ay'
Bonus points if it doesn't run like a one-legged kangaroo
Somehow I feel a one legged kangaroo would still do a pretty good job at running. My comparison would be an elephant with frozen knee joints.
After trying one of many DayZ-like mods for Arma 3 (Exile), I realized just how much I missed DayZ SA's updated buildings with usable interiors
I was slowly losing my mind at the number of "Cardboard boxes with doors painted on them" in A2 Chernarus and Esseker as the maps I tried.
[editline]SHIIIIIIIT[/editline]
and also, I created something from boredom using numbers from the wiki: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sC2EUbPZB_IUUPPbPwKlMZMce_B9mvOtn4YPxuH12VI/edit#gid=0
A quick table that lets you see the foodstuffs in DayZ and how good they are
I noted a few oddities and anything notably good/bad
That's honestly one of the greatest redeeming features of SA.

The gunplay is also more enjoyable tbh
Close quarters fights kinda suck sometimes though.
The sync between players if it's not perfect more often than not if you get into one of those five feet away what the fuck moments and you both shoot and kill each other even if it seems you put one in their head long before they shot
I think we can all agree on the fact that DayZ failed miserably
It's a success in a piece of shit wrapped in 100 dollar bills kind of way
Does anyone think they will ever be able to optimize it? Or are they just working on a engine too shitty?
I think we can all agree on the fact that DayZ failed miserably
I wouldn't quite say that. By far, it's reproduced nearly all the features of the mod and the content exceeds or is roughly similar in quantity (and definitely quality) compared to the mod. That said I'm not at all considering the mods of the mod. DayZ has a long way to go but I like the concept of the environmental hazards and the sort of progression that comes from taking on high level loot areas like that.
[editline]8th October 2015[/editline]
Honestly if they can nail down a system of meaningful character progression then dayz to me will be a lot more enticing to play.
Oh and also performance.
Does anyone think they will ever be able to optimize it? Or are they just working on a engine too shitty?
IMO the engine is just way too shitty
Does anyone think they will ever be able to optimize it? Or are they just working on a engine too shitty?
Well there hasn't been a single game on that engine that has ever been decently optimized save for maybe Arma 3, and even it did a less than stellar job at it.
[editline]8th October 2015[/editline]
SA being made on Real Virtuality engine is just about the worst thing that could have ever happened to it
I just want to shoot people and hide from zombies which are not dumb, that's all. And they are failing even at this.
Saying all this I don't regret the initial £15 I spent on the game or whatever it was, I've still had a tonne of fun.
Saying all this I don't regret the initial £15 I spent on the game or whatever it was, I've still had a tonne of fun.
But I just wish for some optimization and smart zombies, thats all.
I think it is possible for them to optimize it, but the team for some reason is just so focused on ~content~ that it ends up building up a bottleneck of resources that the game can barely handle and can even make the highest end PC piss itself
So I geared a character, playing for a couple hours every now and then over the past few days. Just realised that its a first person only character and absolutely nobody seems to play public in first person servers so I've essentially wasted all that time. Fun stuff.
