I'd fucking love this game to have zombies akin to that of project zomboid. Obviously zomboid is isometric game on a very different engine, but the zombies feel like zombies should feel.
You might be able to take on a few individuals, but you really have to creep around large groups. Not to mention the excitement and terror when you get a mob of 100+ zombies chasing you.
I know dayZ probably won't ever be able to replicate it within it's engine, but holy fuck it would be incredible to have a zombie system like that whilst having great animations and behaviours.
"game failed miserably"
playtime: 380hours
I saw and heard that so often :v:
I think it is possible for them to optimize it, but the team for some reason is just so focused on ~content~ that it ends up building up a bottleneck of resources that the game can barely handle and can even make the highest end PC piss itself
Or maybe rebuilding an engine is really hard so while the programmers are still slaving away, the art team have been able to push out stuff they've managed to finish?

Yeah I put 269 hours in Standalone and I can honestly say I had tons of fun with it, and strangely despite all the rabid complaints about hackers I never met a single one. My experience was mostly ruined by a terrible network sync between players getting me killed lol

you can have a good time with something and still recognize that it's a piece of shit
like movies

But I mean what do they have to show for this, the only things I've seen so far is them showing off the new renderer. I understand that, but really where has all this hard work been going. I get the art team has very different goals but it feels like there's so little organization to the development of the project or at the very least, I sure as hell don't understand it
Well there hasn't been a single game on that engine that has ever been decently optimized save for maybe Arma 3, and even it did a less than stellar job at it.

SA being made on Real Virtuality engine is just about the worst thing that could have ever happened to it
more likely most you forgot the decision was made to start DayZ standalone on Take On Helicopters branch of RV engine
not Arma 3, which had multiple reason (stable branch, DX9 etc.)
ironically in the long run it wasn't that good decision and that's why the rewrote into Enfusion engine ...
so most of what you see, hear and use are placeholders to be replaced ....
yeah w/e dwarden its still going to be shit
You and BI have been doing this "it will get better, promise!" talk for 15 years. It was charming when you guys were a skeleton crew working on a very ambitious and unconventional game, 10+ years on and now you're a legitimate studio flush with cash, its not so charming anymore.
So I have cholera now. A little salty, Bohemia?

so literally the whole game? everything about the current engine is shit. the animations, the controls, the clumsiness, the performance, the mouse input, the stiffness, just about everything. it's not an engine designed for games, and it shows. Arma/DayZ aren't supposed to be arcadey, sure, but using RV is such an overkill that in the end it only damaged the end result. it made sense back with OPF, but right now there's no reason not to use a vastly superior engine and tweak/customize it to fit the realistic profile.
basically the situation can be compared to this:
you want to cross a country road and your hatchback city car won't do, you want something that can deal with harsh terrain. What do you do? Do you use an off road vehicle, to have just about the same amount of comfort while simutaniously being able to whim over the country road? No, you buy a tank, which is slower, less comfortable, louder and more expensive to buy or run, because it's the best, right? Well yeah, but you don't need the best, at this point the tanks advantage over the off road vehicle doesn't matter in the slightest, while it still has all the drawbacks. That tank is RV. And the Enfusion engine seems to be an APC, so the point still stands.
as far as the "enfusion engine" everybody loves to talk about isn't something completly different and unrelated from RV, and an actual video game engine, it'll probably stay awful
I'd love to see the Enfusion engine be good and fix all of DayZ/Armas problems, but i can't honestly believe that's how it'll work out.
I hope BI proves me wrong, blows me out of the water, ice burns me and shuts me the fuck up with the Enfusion engine, I really do.
Yeah I really odn't like the new UI, how do I know if I'm hydrated or wet and all that shit? It's also really difficult to manage the inventory now, half the time I can't even pick stuff up!
You know what, I actually had some fun in DayZ lately. I'm running around some servers as Macho Man and scream "OOOOH YEAAAH Macho Man doesn't like your gear!" and then KoS.
Even though the base wars aspect in dayz epoch/overpoch really defined it it's the face to face player interaction in standalone that just redeems it for me disregarding the fact that it's one fucking bugfest.
I can't think of a way to tell this story other than greentext so please dont kill me.
>Boot up standalone along with a friend for the first time in months.
>I spawn in Cherno, he's in Electro.
>Start making my way towards him.
>He's hearing intense AK firefights but since he's a fresh spawn he's just strolling around.
>Friend gets captured and thrown into the police station's jail cell by a fully geared group of 3.
>They keep capturing people.
>3 minutes later I arrive and turn myself in on purpose.
>people throw a tantrum inside the police station while the captors are busy defending from some madman with a shotgun.
>only me, my friend and 1 person left.
>they lock us in the cell.
>"we're going to place this one knife on the floor and you must kill eachother, the last person left wins an AK101"
>we kill the random guy.
>"there can only be one"
>I take the knife and do the suicide animation
>no
>they set us both free and give us an ak and fnx45 with loads of mags.

I fucking love this shitty game.
Also, pretty sure they were streamers, could anybody identify them by the purple armband? The whole thing happened quite a while ago so can't recall anything about the leader's voice.

I think some people honestly forget this aspect of the game. As soon as I get fully geared my next goal (as long as I don't have fucking cholera! It killed me btw, thanks Dwarden) Is to head down to the coast for some human interaction. Isolating yourself and staying in the North creeping arounf for fear of dying is the worst. Dying is refreshing, there's a certain bliss to being a new spawn. You tend to be more eccentric. But in DayZ you'll end up dying anyways guaranteed (if not wiped by an update), so you'd might as well make use of the tools at your disposal to make the best of your life
I think this element of human interaction is both why people continue to play and why people get bored. On one side, it's incredibly fun. On the other, you kind of have to go out of your way to embrace that kind of a playstyle, and many people can't bother to do it.
Although when beards get in I'll pull a mission to get that sweet ass grizzly man facial hair
All the systems and human interaction are what still set it apart from other titles. I love DayZ but man does it suck at times.
I'll tell you one of my all time favourite gaming stories, sure it's not as good written out as when it all played out but here goes.
My 2 friends and I enter the great wilderness of Chernaurus. It takes is a long time to meet up, we are all reasonably geared by the time we meet up - plenty of provisions, rucksacks and basic weapons. After meeting up with one of my friends we set out to find the other, who we know is starving and dehydrated, we find him as he passes out, we resuscitate him with water and saline. Off we go. Our adventure continues but the poor dehydrated guy simply isn't finding any water containers. My other friend however, appears to have an endless supply of water bottles so he keeps the guy going. After reaching Berezino after travelling up the coast from Cherno, the dehydrated guy (no longer dehydrated but that's what I'll call him) starts to pass out randomly and wake up vomiting. We have to revive him with water and saline several times until he just gives out and has one of us end his misery. He eventually finds us again, as before, in a terrible state, we feed him and water him. Not long into our scout of Berezino, it starts happening again. We hold up in a house to the west to avoid people. He's passed out on the kitchen floor, confused as to why his character is perpetually vomiting and passing out. The other guy begins manically laughing and starts force feeding him with a gas can. Dehydrated guy starts freaking out saying "what the fuck are you doing, that will kill me!" The other guy, still laughing, responds "well you've been drinking it for ages and haven't died yet, you're just a little sick." There's a deathly silence from dehydrated guy as my other friend chuckles to himself. We hear dehydrated guy mutter in a mega pissed voice "I will fucking kill you" - just as my friend starts injecting the saline I dropped on the floor. I slowly back out the house and run to the house across the road. I turn around to look out the window and see 5-10 large flashes come out from the house I just left. He got his revenge, murdered the other guy as soon as he woke up. The evil bastard still cackling away. We laugh it off and call it a night.
TL;DR
My friend was repeatedly feeding my other friend with bottles filled up with petrol without him knowing.
It was the funniest shit ever. I have never had a moment like this in a game and I doubt I'll find another game anytime soon that has the systems in place to pull off a dumb, hilarious stunt like that. It's shit like this that makes me hold out hope for DayZ.
Someone needs to stop me, I'm hyping myself up on the .59 update, and getting myself hyped up is just making the wait all the more painful
just look at this! How can I not hype myself up at that!?

Just imagining myself with this rifle fitted with an ACOG or RDS or something, HNNNNNNG.
Fuck the guns, add more vehicles you bastards!
That is on the .59 list isn't it? All those vehicles they've been teasing?

We've already got the two variants of V3S, .59 is going to add:
a Bus,
an offroad hatchback,
possibly another variant of V3S
and a GAZ.
They also have a little bird that they showed off at twitchcon on the roadmap
I reinstalled DayZ yesterday and tbh (unless zombies get a massive overhaul) I think it's better just as a post-apocalyptic survival game.

Twelve pieces of various other tinned food
four packs of powered milk
We're all wearing military clothes, with one complete set extra in the camp
Extra High Capacity Vest
Extra complete plate carrier set
and during all this time, finding all this loot, not a single V3S has been found, hoping to god the devs make vehicles more common in .59
One thing I liked about the mod is how if you were end game you could just go on zombie murder sprees and feel like you're doing progress, freeing the world of zombies. Obviously you didn't really do that, but it felt good and gave you something to do.
Epoch is pretty cash too, but once again it's something that I'd love to see in some sort of singleplayer iteration.
I really want a Namlsk type thing going on to those who remember Object A2 the best interior in any arma map ever complete with the dankest of memes in that one tunnel
Also yeah I finally have a plate carrier but I'm rocking a hoodie underneat. Military clothing is for damn dirty bandits
If they deliver on this soon I'll be a happy chappy

Oh no, its dead. Necrobump I guess.
Deader than the zombies
[editline]28th October 2015[/editline]
Wait, what zombies?
I think there's a reason it's dead....nobody wants to bother with this game anymore. Am I wrong?
Im still playing a bit, prob gonna play .59 exp if it is ever released
