dayz: a game dead in its infancy

It's a huge shame how Arma 3 doesn't have something like the DUWS scenario by default in it. With a quality expected of a real developer of course. IMO it should have that, at least it wouldn't be a complete framework of a game.
Yea, its pretty sad to see that the devs of DayZ has barely completed their first quarter goals lol.
I lost all hope about half a year ago
Something strange happened tonight, something I really didn't expect to happen ever
Let me tell you a story
Out of boredom I decided to break my hiatus from DayZ. So, on I went onto my favorite high-population server hoping to brawl it out with newspawns and generally just get some human interaction going rather than my usual routine. I spawn into Svetlojarsk and lo' and behold there's already a mob of people doing some dumb sketchy shit. As two deep-voiced baddies antagonize several people (by breaking their legs) over a literal pile of dead bodies, the tables suddenly turn as a lone hero takes a stand and reks them. Another man soon joins in and the baddies are thoroughly rekt.
It's at this point that I decide it's probably safe to come up and loot the dead fellas, and soon the player known as "Bad Charizard" explains to me the struggle of Svetlojarsk's people against these assholes who kept breaking peoples' legs. Alas, I stuck around to defend against the constantly respawning horde of the same exact people trying to off Bad Charizard over and over, consistently failing. As me, Charizard, and another individual who I will nickname "Bowman" (for the bow he crafted during our stay in Svetlo) held off the unending assault and also loot cycled the police station, our bond grew stronger. After enduring at least six assaults by the same leg-breaker dudes, it became evident that we had formed a cohesive yet informal survivalist group. Upon suggestion of Charizard we decided to hike off to Novodmitrovsk. Overall, we spent several hours as a group, looting and dashing through buildings, sharing our shit, and just generally working as a team. When it finally came time to call it a night (I had added Charizard on steam at this point,) Bowman got on his knees and offed himself with his Blaze-95. Mournful but also knowing he'd want us to have his goodies, we looted the best things we could and threw the rest away so it wouldn't fall into the wrong hands. After some short conversation, I bade Charizard a good night, and we both logged off with plans to continue our impromptu adventure whenever convenient.
So this is really the tale about how I discovered the real cream of DayZ's gameplay, when a group of complete strangers can come together to survive without having this sense of paranoia or some "race to the first gun" type of shit. It was really enjoyable to have the privilege of going through that experience, and most of all it was incredibly genuine, it struck me that this is what DayZ is really about. Once in a lifetime shit but man, it was something special.
So I gotta give the game that, DayZ really never ceases to surprise me, despite the slow dev progress and prevalence of bugs and quirks. You really never know what you're gonna get when you add that human element into the equation.
Maybe, just maybe after they finish their new scripting engine and the renderer the development will speed up...
From that point they may start working on optimization, at least I hope so.
At least there's a GP-5 gas mask in the experimental branch, so I'm running around in it with ushanka. Blowout soon, fellow stalker.

Puppies!
Animal herd and pack behaviour looks pretty cool, can only assume that will transfer to zombie hordes when the time comes.
So .59 got pushed to stable, apparently so have lots of the desync and rubberbanding been fixed. People have had gunfights with no to little desync. Nice to hear, might just go back to it after a 1-2 months break.
Those wolves are going to give away so many people's positions.

What about the fps being shitty no matter where you are?
the framerate is a feature

sooo why do I only find 4 locked servers?
Check your ping filter maybe?
Guys, I've managed to find a sedan, but all i need is some spark plugs. Will anyone help me out?
Everyone having performance issues should try the -newui launch parameter. Inventory is a placeholder and there are no status bars in it, so you have to rely on the "I'm hungry" and such messages, but it seems to increase FPS a lot. I used to get 18 FPS out of my i7 920 in the middle of Novodimitrovsk, while now I get 30.
The new UI is shit. Me and my friends have way better performance now then before, and thats using the old UI. New UI is terrible for gun fights and such things.

Apparently Bad Charmander recorded the whole initial situation!

I'm in there as the swell fellow known as Abu Bakr :^)
"He was such a good man!"
And ffs, stop complaning about the FPS. Its still in alpha no matter how much it sucks to say that, but better FPS will come later, and btw the new renderer wont make it so you have constant 60 FPS, dont believe that.
Are there zombies yet? I'm hearing conflicting things about zombies... someone said they're back everywhere, while someone else said it's just in the larger cities.

you trust in bi way too much
How am I trusting BI too much? Their other games have been successful. I agree to 100% that the development has been shitty and a huge let down, but this patch and the latest one has been steps forward. I fully trust that they will finish their project, but it wont be anytime soon since game devlopment takes a long ass time.
Shitty FPS is specific to the entire range of arma engines, they're just absolute ass at giving you good frames for your hardware.

I love public transit.
What the hell is wrong with this game? I managed to find two sedans in nearby villages, almost restored one and then logged off, then logged in today only to find it on its roof without wheels.
Found car, spent 35 minutes finding three wheels, drive it to myshkino, three tents, a military tent, and two car tents set up.
K.
Looting around, head back to car, see guy, act like I didn't and run off, start getting shot at with Blaze 95 from up the hill, can't see him.
Take cover behind the car hoping they shoot out the tires so they can't use it at the moment, they do, guy tries rushing me on the right, hose him down with Mp5K, in the process of that, get nailed in the head with the Blaze, have pristine ballistic helmet, knocks me out, they finish me off.
Wish I had buddies that would play this game with me instead of being giant fucks too unwilling to play the game because it's not instant gratification.
this game is still unplayable, performance is just abhorrently bad
I cannot believe that this is not more of an issue for the development team
How do u guys always find cars so fast? Are there and particular spots to check?
I just run around until I find one, but I also believe that there are specific spawn points for them too.
Man you people really dont understand when optimization and such comes into a game. I am not a game dev or anything like that, but atleast I get why the game has bad FPS and whatnot. Me and all my friends have way smoother FPS and in some cases higher FPS then previously. Desync is barely there which is a HUGE step foward.

trust me man, I do understand
optimization is not just something you do when the game is finished
Yea I know its not something that comes when the game is done, but more like in beta or something. Surely beta wont happen for this game for a long time since they said beta would be now lol.
Not even beta, optimization is a process that should be going on all the time, really. The fact that the game is unplayable for a large portion of the playerbase is just not on.
You optimise as you go along because if you leave it til the end, you've got this whole mountain of problems that will take forever to dig through and will take more time to fix than it would have done had you identified and fixed these issues in playtests.
