the way i get it, development goes like this (or should): - add content - optimize - rinse & repeat
If you guys need a little performance boost I'd suggest trying Razer Cortex In addition to turning clouds and shadows off
theres no excuse for how shitty RV is and you can tell BI never gave a fuck about making a good game by their decision to put dayz on RV
Wouldn't it be better if Day z would go to Arma 3 Engine?
Wouldn't it be better if Day z would go to Arma 3 Engine?
porting all the features of DayZ to even Real Virtuality would probably take a significant amount of time, and would make the current efforts of improving DayZ's current engine worthless. unless the developers want to postpone 'proper' release of the game to 2017 or later, they'll stick with their current 'new' engine.
The arma 3 engine was still in development at that time and it would have dragged early access back way further, that's why. Right now they are modifying the engine in ways that not even Arma 3 dared to do so. The engine that comes out of dayz will be the main bohemia interactive engine as far as I know since stuff like a like animation system/new character skeleton arent in arma 3 but in dayz soon.
How am I trusting BI too much? Their other games have been successful.
arma 2 (and arma 3 less so) wasnt optimized all that much better lol
arma 2 (and arma 3 less so) wasnt optimized all that much better lol
True that. But with the new engine that they are making will hopefully be better.
So, anyone up for teaming up and restoring a Volga?

Had another encounter in the same server on the same character as the last video. It's long, even after the edit it's about 25 minutes, whole encounter took a little over an hour. Was pretty damn intense while playing.
Despite the large amount of flaws I still love this game so much.
Despite the large amount of flaws I still love this game so much.
That's what drives me crazy. It's such a terribly unoptimized hunk of garbage but at its best it's still an incredibly fun game to play.
Went back to this game about two weeks ago, got the usual crew of 5-6 of us working hard on getting a base of sorts set up (basically a glorified base consisting of several barrels worth of loot), we decide to head inland and get a couple vehicles running and have various picnics around the place whilst getting the vehicles stuck on the most infuriating things and having some good banter, as usual we get sick of the vehicles because they're so demanding to get running in this game and when you lose them you feel like you've been robbed. So we went back to the usual pvp and went back to having the usual skeleton crew of 1-3 people running the base so it's gotten pretty boring fast. I'm quite glad it's not the usual AK74/47 blah blah battles it was constantly a few months ago and that there's a semblance of base building possibilities and vehicles to choose from but the development is so sluggish that I fear it's going to take a lot more than what's on offer to keep our team playing DayZ, at least we've got other games to play together whilst we wait impatiently. I think the thing that I find most lacking in my experience of playing is the importance of zombies and the survival against them, not one day passes by in the development of this game where co-operation is at play so I feel like the day will never come where someone can fortify any building in this game with barricades and the stuff to make a true fortification to survive against the zombies with friends. But ayyy, still having some good times here and there.
I like how you're debating "are they friendly?" After you've already opened hostilities by firing a shot.
I was debating if they were friendly with each other, since they kinda turned to look at each other. I don't care if someone is friendly or not anymore in games like this. Been playing WarZ (now infestation), H1Z1, and DayZ for quite a while, tried the whole friendly bit and it always bit me in the ass. On occasion, if someone is knocked unconscious from a gun shot, or they are un-armed, I'll let them go, but if I see people up north, I don't take chances. That and the DayZ community is just toxic from my experience, very rare to find someone that isn't trying to kill you at all times.
My friends and I have been playing the game again the last couple of days, and amazingly it's actually enjoyable. The framerates are somewhat better than they used to be, zombies are actually implemented and aren't bullshit anymore (read, don't go through walls), and we haven't had many glitches. Also we found a party bus The game is finally sort of becoming good
Airfield firefights are pretty fun. Playing with the group of people in the last video I posted that I killed, turns out I killed the server admin twice in that one video :v They're pretty chill though.
After watching walking dead all the way through to the current season, I really want to play dayz. I just wish it wasn't such a slow heap of shite. There's something so calming and comfortable about exploring abandoned sites and buildings, and killing the occasional zomb. Humans will always be assholes though.
H1Z1 as it stand produces a far better "Walking Dead" experience than DayZ. You get HUGE hordes of zombies chasing you. Looting a city early game can be dangerous for that reason alone. H1Z1 is great but it lacks the emergent gameplay that comes from DayZ's systems.

I still regret buying H1Z1.

But the lack of zombies really pissed me off. It's still a good game in terms of the emergent gameplay and the interaction but until it get's a complete zombie overhaul, I'm staying away.
I still regret buying H1Z1.
Definitely. well both H1Z1 and Dayz actually.
I actually don't regret either, I've had my fair share of hours on Battle Royale and had a blast. Even though DayZ is kinda broken I still have over 100 hours clocked in and that's all good fun with my friends
I've had my money's worth from both games. Some of the situations I've had in DayZ with my friends have been really incredible experiences and really got me interested in game design. (I had never experienced emergent gameplay before) H1Z1 doesn't play anywhere near as good but the battle royale mode is some damn good fun. I've enjoyed seeing the game progress and dealing with zombies early game is challenging enough to be fun. (if you're willing to take risks that is, you could just fart about in no-mans land)
Good news everyone! The new renderer will be released in the nearest update, they are also moving out from DirectX9 to DirectX11.
Because Im sure moving from Dx9 to Dx11 will improve performance where its lacking...
Good news everyone! The new renderer will be released in the nearest update, they are also moving out from DirectX9 to DirectX11.
but when is that update?
but when is that update?
the developers have been aiming to release it around the end of this month, which is obviously February. I am assuming it will be in the experimental branch only, though. ..
Internally we're hoping to have our next .60 update out late next month. [..] Please keep in mind as these systems are merged into test we could easily stumble across blocking issues, and we'll continue to keep everyone appraised on the status of these if they arise. I believe it was also because of the 'worst' hardware that the game is intended to run on is new enough to support DirectX 11. even on its own, running on just DirectX 9, the new renderer would most likely be fairly better than the 'old' renderer, making so that moving from DirectX 9 support to DirectX 11 support only (DirectX 12 support will come later) probably doesn't make any significant gameplay differences other than lack of support for systems that can't use DirectX 11.
